Question from JJ3107 (16:19, 20 August 2025)Hello TheTechie. You're my assigned editing mentor. I wanted to ask about editing in images rather than text. I can see how copyright might easily be an issue here. Specifically, I'm thinking about the Isle of Skye's page. Its lead image, other than the flag, is a really boring picture of random street in Portree. Given that its the first image, couldn't it be a little better? Its like if London's lead picture decided to show some traffic lights in Harrow rather than something like Big Ben. Main candidates to replace would be a shot of Portree Harbor or the Cullin Mountainrange, each of which show up later in the article. Any help, any thoughts? Thanks --JJ3107 (talk) 16:19, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from Downtostars (19:27, 8 September 2025)Hello. I would like to learn to start editing articles. 1) I am told the easiest things to start with are adding links and spell-checking? 2) Is this something that I should do from a laptop instead of mobile? 3) Is it preferable to link to other Wikipedia articles or is it okay to link to solid outside sources? (I would use the types of vetted resources that I would use for something such as a college level academic paper.) 4) For spell checking, I am assuming that standard American English spelling is what is usually used if one is editing English-language articles? Or is it fine to leave things with the British-English spellings? (Example: color/colour, standardized/standarised, etc.) 5) Should I focus on articles where I am familiar with the content or can I just tackle the random things on my dash? --Downtostars (talk) 19:27, 8 September 2025 (UTC) Question from TSXero (01:28, 15 September 2025)Hi Wikipedia mentor, I'm TSXero and I was assigned by Xero to help update the Xero (company) Wikipedia page to ensure it is up to date and factual. As I am a conflict of interest (COI) editor, I can only request edits on the Xero (company) page. I was wondering if you have any tips to finding reliable neutral sources as I have received this feedback from another editor when I tried to request an edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Xero_(company)#Request_to_add_to_Funding_section They stated the articles are promotional by nature but as a company listed on the ASX, Xero's articles all seem promotional. Would really appreciate any feedback or advice moving forward. Thanks --TSXero (talk) 01:28, 15 September 2025 (UTC) |
