Question

A message from 11redharry

11redharry (talk) 00:14, 26 September 2025 (UTC) Hi I see you are listed as my mentor and I had a question. I posted to the Arcadia, CA page this source code: ==Politics==[reply]

United States presidential election results for City of Arcadia, CA
Year Republican Democratic Third party(ies)
No.  % No.  % No.  %
2024 9,384 42.83% 11,757 53.66% 770 3.51%
2020 9,603 38.58% 14,831 59.58% 457 1.84%
2016 6,850 37.58% 10,379 56.93% 1,001 5.49%
2012 9,219 48.35% 9,431 49.46% 418 2.19%
2008 10,191 48.36% 10,372 49.21% 512 2.43%

Arcadia has voted Democrat by narrow to solid margins from 2008-2024. There was a large shift to the Democrats from 2008-2016, which had partially rebounded by 2024. [1]

I noticed I would publish it and then when I'd check later it would disappear. I reposted it twice because I thought maybe I had forgotten to publish it or it was taken down by mistake. After the second repost it was taken down again and a user wrote on like my page that I didn't have a reliable source. I was confused what he meant. The source is .gov and is where I got the data in the results chart and the text is also just a written summary of what I saw in the data. I think he thought that I had no source for the data in the chart, but I just put it below the text since it was for both of them.

I'm not sure what I have to do to get it published. I asked him but I thought it was kind of rude that he just posted that on my page with no warning and doesn't explain what he means by unreliable. Sorry I am new and worried he is going to gate keep the page and I suck at code haha. It also made me kind of ticked because it took me a long time to get the data together and I double checked every number as I wrote them into a sheet and then into a template. I feel like I can just use the same source template but add it too the chart too? Or maybe I need to do a sperate source for each document, as the url I cited is a page with links to each respective document.

Thanks for your time.

In this case, the issue with your edit was that you linked to a website that contains a long list of documents, but didn't link to the specific document where the information came from. In the future, make sure to link to the specific document, not just the broader website.
Also, be careful when drawing conclusions from multiple sources. From what you wrote on your user talk page, it sounds like (correct me if I’m wrong) you took information from several of those documents to draw a conclusion on how the people of Arcadia voted. That might be considered synthesis, which isn't allowed on Wikipedia. Synthesis is when you combine facts from different sources to make a conclusion that none of the sources make explicitly. We just want to know what the sources explicitly say.
If you ever get a warning and don’t understand why (which is frustrating), you can ask the person who left it by replying to the warning and starting your message with {{ping|USERNAME}} to notify them. You can also ask questions at our forum for new users, or contact me here (though the forum might get you a faster response since there are people there pretty much all the time).
If you're having trouble editing in the source editor (what you called "code"), you might find the Visual Editor easier. You don’t need to know wiki markup to use it.
I tried to explain everything as clearly as I could, but let me know if anything’s still confusing. Happy editing! Relativity ⚡️ 22:37, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome thank you. I'll leave out the text as it sounds like I was synthesizing which is not allowed. I'm going to put it back up with a ref citation to each source, eg 2024= [2]. Only thing I'm not sure of is where is the best place to put them. Anyway, appreciate your answer and I will ping the mod who removed my content and let them know what I am doing. 11redharry (talk) 22:58, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Pinged them as you mentioned, thanks for that. Seems like it is just as you said and now my references to each document I made will be fine to use for the chart. I still think I'll leave my text summary off and just let people figure out for themselves what trends there have been, because of the synthesis issue. 11redharry (talk) 03:39, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MeloOpti (20:26, 29 September 2025)

How do I save my Drafts? Or do they auto save? --MeloOpti (talk) 20:26, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MeloOpti: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! When you edit your drafts, you have to click "Publish changes" for your changes to save. Edits don't auto-save. If you're worried about losing your hard work, you might want to create a draft on a document on your computer that will save automatically for you and not immediately publish. Hope that answers your question! Relativity ⚡️ 21:06, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Luizael.anna (23:58, 29 September 2025)

Hello, I was browsing here and I saw that I can attribute this experience as knowledge, do you like translation? --Luizael.anna (talk) 23:58, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Luizael.anna: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! I personally don't translate because I am not fluent enough in another language to translate articles, and un-edited machine translation is frowned upon. But you might be interested in reading Help:Translation if that's something you want to do. Cheers, Relativity ⚡️ 00:15, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MeloOpti (01:00, 1 October 2025)

Hello again... I've written a whole article, including 17 citations, including a photo and it won't publish.... I get a box that says this:

"No stashed content found for 0/a4c404c4-9b03-11f0-9117-89b994afc46f. This is most likely because your edit session has expired. Try to copy your changes, reload the page, and try again. See more details on how to resolve this error at WP:FAQ/Problems#My edit won't publish due to "no stashed content"?"

Does this mean I have to redo all the citations again ? --MeloOpti (talk) 01:00, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MeloOpti: Hopefully not, there are some instructions here that might let you save your edit. If that doesn't work, then yes, you might have to re-do it again. This occurred because you kept the edit tab open for too long and the page's cache cleared during that time. Try the instructions above to see if they work, if not, try publishing your work in smaller chunks? Sorry about that, I'm sure it's frustrating, so hopefully you're able to recover your changes.
