WMF trustee elections, U4C results, Italian ArbCom, WMF and Endowment annual reports.
We don't know yet, but there is some encouraging news, nevertheless.
Some go out with a bang, some with a whimper, few with much of a comprehensible explanation.
Plus, the WMF joins the Unicode Consortium, Chris Albon talks about AI tools on Wikipedia, communities address under-representation on the site.
More queries are failing, and more frequently, so what is to be done?
It do be like that sometimes.
With cricket and some cute baby reindeer! Question from Aphestus (07:48, 20 May 2024)Hello.... How does editing work? Apparently my nitwit of a brother got himself banned indefinitely last night, according to what he told me, which wasn't much, he was merely telling the truth(although, I do know he can be rather aggressive in telling or describing) on a topic that needed "serious revision and rectification," and that he wasn't being heard or taken seriously.... Quite the contrary in my astute opinion. So, back to my question, how does editing work, as I'd love to be a contribution to what I call the earthly version of "encyclopedia Galactica." --Aphestus (talk) 07:48, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Boot MonumentOn 25 May 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Boot Monument, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a boot is the only monument in the United States dedicated to the traitor Benedict Arnold because it "was the only part of Arnold not to later turn traitor"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Boot Monument. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Boot Monument), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. It also included an Instagram post which stated that, "After a brief battle with cancer, Pedro passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family" Also on an unrelated note, are we allowed to give the name of the Belgrade school shooter here because many news sites gave his name as Kosta Kecmanovic. https://www.voanews.com/a/parents-of-teen-who-fatally-shot-10-on-trial-in-serbia/7462069.html https://apnews.com/article/serbia-mass-shooting-trial-weapons-7fe91a270fb01e92adee53702fadaf70 Thanks, Belko05

I wonder if I can sense check something with you please: I have created a new draft article for review (Draft: Dafydd Rogers). The reason I created it was because I noticed that the page on the producing partnership between two well known UK producers (DAvid Pugh and Dafydd Rogers) had been edited after the dissolution of the partnership, writing one of them out of the record. I think this was actually in very bad faith. I added back the name of Rogers to the article now named for the other (David Pugh) and then created a separate entry for Rogers. Almost all of the citations in the Pugh entry refer to the partnership so I think the criteria for notability is equal between the two. My article was then almost immediately declined as it was identified as being too similar to the other. I think this is because the partnership (David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers) and the name Dafydd Rogers redirects to the single entry (David Pugh) which gives the misleading impression that the Pugh article is definitive when in fact this entry was renamed from David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers to David Pugh. I think I've supported my draft with citations that demonstrate notability and I think there is an argument to be made for each man having their own entry as they are both continuing to be active independently of each other and had lives before they met each other as well. My question for you is - can I convey this so that the article is not declined for the same reason again and do you have any advice about whether it is possible to edit the redirect which artificially creates the problem in the first place (and I think has been wilfully exploited to write one person out of the partnership). I hope that makes sense? Please let me know what you think. This is my first entry to Wikipedia so I'm learning as I go along! I would like to propose a revision regarding the description of Fethullah Gülen in the "Deaths in 2024" list. Currently, the page refers to him as the "leader of FETÖ," which is a term used by the Turkish government and is politically charged. However, Wikipedia aims to maintain a neutral point of view, especially in politically sensitive topics. As an Islamic scholar and preacher with a significant following around the world, Gülen is a controversial figure, but not universally recognized as the leader of a terrorist organization. Many international sources and observers refer to him as the leader of the Gülen movement, which promotes education and interfaith dialogue. Therefore, I kindly request that the description be revised as follows: Original: "Fethullah Gülen, 83, Turkish Muslim scholar and preacher, leader of FETO, heart and kidney failure." Question from Sangeetasingh77 (13:44, 6 December 2024)EVALUATION OF RURAL TEACHERS
There is a lack of resources in rural areas due to which children have to face many problems! If experienced teachers from rural areas are selected, then they try to give good education to the children even in these circumstances so that children do not have to face many difficulties. Some suggestions for teachers to improve education of rural children and motivate children for education are as follows: 1) There should be a more relevant curriculum for rural children, so that the children can demonstrate success. 2) Teacher training that addresses the roles, challenges and expectations of rural teachers. 3) Teachers should be trained in such a way that they do not look at education from the perspective of academic success and salaried jobs. --Sangeetasingh77 (talk) 13:44, 6 December 2024 (UTC) Question from Sangeetasingh77 (13:50, 6 December 2024)EVALUATION OF RURAL TEACHERS Considering the roles of teachers in rural areas, the selection and training of teachers should not be focused only on academic subjects but should also be adapted to the experiences of rural classrooms and the experiences o rural areas. The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round. The first round will end on 26 February. WikiCup 2025 March newsletterThe first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews. Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Question from ArjunQM (10:46, 27 April 2025)Hello! I'm quite a new user on Wikipedia and I've got a couple of questions to ask, if you don't mind. What exactly makes an inappropriate use of primary sources? I know that on Wikipedia, we are supposed to prioritise secondary sources, but in some scenarios, such as when talking about personal life in a biography article, the best information would come from the person themselves, surely? In this case, would it be okay to use primary sources from the person themselves? And another question: what makes an inappropriate primary source? Are we allowed to just use quotes from that person, or a video of them saying it, as a source? Is a FAQ from them an acceptable source? I read the Wikipedia guidelines on this, but I was a bit confused. Thank you! --ArjunQM (talk) 10:46, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

Egad! June Backlog Drive is almost over!![]() Hi! Thanks for participating in the Articles for Creation June Backlog Drive! We've done amazing work so far, dropping the backlog by more than 2000 drafts already. We have around 3000 drafts outstanding, and we need your help to get that down to zero in 5 days. We can do this, but we need all hands on deck to make this happen. A list of the pending drafts can be found at WP:AFCSORT, where you can select submissions in your area of interest. Thank you so much for your work so far, and happy reviewing! – DreamRimmer ■ 01:34, 25 June 2025 (UTC) May 2025 NPP backlog drive – Points award

This round was again competitive, with three contestants scoring more than 1,000 round points:
Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for round 3 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 4 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 1 featured picture, 9 featured-topic articles, 149 good articles, 27 good-topic articles, and more than 90 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 18 In the News articles, and they have conducted more than 200 reviews. Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! Destubathon runs until the 16th of JulyHi, just a courtesy message to notify you in case you haven't seen the Wikipedia:The World Destubathon contest update in the last few days that we've decided to run the full month until the 16th of July. For those who have been too busy to contribute, we would love some help in reaching 4000 articles by Wednesday night! Per your request, your account has been granted temporary account IP viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. I have been adding references/citations on the Wikipedia page 'Tarlov Cyst'. I recently had someone remove a reference I had added, and their comment just said "Predatory Source". I'v tried to search Google to find out what about the reference makes it a 'Predatory Source' but I am stil confused. The reference is: "Mieke, Hulens; Frans, Bruyninckx; Alix, Somers; Ingeborg, Stalmans; Benjamin, Peersman; Greet, Vansant; Rasschaert, Ricky; Peter, De Mulder; Wim, Dankaerts (2017). "Electromyography and a Review of the Literature Provide Insights into the Role of Sacral Perineural Cysts in Unexplained Chronic Pelvic, Perineal and Leg Pain Syndromes". International Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. 05 (3). doi:10.4172/2329-9096.1000407" Does this mean the "International Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation" is the predatory source? Thank you! --Tarlovcystinfo (talk) 21:25, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
