Hello.... How does editing work? Apparently my nitwit of a brother got himself banned indefinitely last night, according to what he told me, which wasn't much, he was merely telling the truth(although, I do know he can be rather aggressive in telling or describing) on a topic that needed "serious revision and rectification," and that he wasn't being heard or taken seriously.... Quite the contrary in my astute opinion. So, back to my question, how does editing work, as I'd love to be a contribution to what I call the earthly version of "encyclopedia Galactica." --Aphestus (talk) 07:48, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

It stated on the second citation (with is from Bloody Disgusting), that Arce died from cancer. I was just adding something that technically was already there. It also included an Instagram post which stated that, "After a brief battle with cancer, Pedro passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family"

Hello @Ksenjamajanov:. I am on mobile so expect typos. The draft is still not ready for mainspace yet. It is definitely looking better tone-wise and reads less like an advertisement. An infobox is nice but is definitely not a requirement for anythingExtra information is nice. However,our ultimate criteria for inclusion is notability, and I’m not seeing why Whistlegraph is notable enough to warrant a Wikipedia article. Please read WP:GNG. The band’s own website cannot be used to establish notability, and neither can their music video or an instagram post (see WP:IND) Your other sources are not going to be enough to establish the band’s notability; also, see WP:Reliable sources. The amount of followers someone has does not mean that a subject is notable Wikipedia-wise. At this point I don’t think that you’ll be able to establish the band’s notability. However, if the band does eventually meet Wikipedia’s notability standards and has the required sourcing, then it could merit an article then. The third round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 June. As with Round 2, this round was competitive: each of the 16 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 256 points.

The following editors all scored more than 400 points in Round 3:

• Generalissima (submissions) with 1,059 points, mostly from 1 featured article on DeLancey W. Gill, 11 good articles, 18 did you know nominations, and dozens of reviews;
• Skyshifter (submissions) with 673 points, mostly from 2 featured articles on Worlds (Porter Robinson album) and I'm God, 5 good articles, and 2 did you know nominations;
• Sammi Brie (submissions) with 557 points, mostly from 1 featured article on KNXV-TV, 5 good articles, and 8 did you know nominations; and
• AryKun (submissions) with 415 points, mostly from 1 featured article on Great cuckoo-dove, with a high number of bonus points from that article.

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 28 featured articles, 38 featured lists, 240 good articles, 92 in the news credits, and at least 285 did you know credits. They have conducted 279 featured article reviews, as well as 492 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 22 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed during Round 4, which starts on 1 July at 00:00 (UTC). @Finlitfan: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! This question is a little more complicated than a simple "yes" or "no". We have a guideline on Wikipedia about Conflict-of-interest editing. In this case, both you and your friend would have a conflict of interest on the article on you. Therefore, both of you would have to follow the instructions written at the link that I linked above. In addition, if you paid your friend to write the article for you, please take a look at paid editing, although this is not necessarily the case. Could I ask which page? Assuming that you are unable to find a citation for something tagged as citation needed, would it be appropriate to replace that information with something similar that you do have a citation to.

Additionally, is it appropriate to directly reference encoded material (such as a law or clause in a constitution) despite it not being academic or scholarly? --Eandvwigle (talk) 04:06, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

@Eandvwigle: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! It'd be helpful if you can provide a link so I know specifically what you're talking about, so my answer might not perfectly fit what you're asking about. For your first question, I would check how old that citation needed tag is. If it's less than two months old, you probably should keep the information there since removing it would be premature. However, if that citation needed tag has been there for quite some time, I would remove the info and replace it with what you've got. You also might want to leave a message on the talk page saying what information you removed, but that's totally optional.

For your second question, it depends on the situation. (Please read WP:PRIMARY if you want to use that information for something directly on that law or clause itself.) Not all sources that are used on Wikipedia are scholarly or academic. We use news sources, books, etc. So what you're citing doesn't need to be academic or scholarly as long as it's reliable. However, please keep in mind that directly referencing a law of clause in a constitution is a) not going to help you establish notability and b) may put you in danger of one of the things outlined in WP:OR. The fourth round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 29 August. Each of the 8 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 472 points, and the following contestants scored more than 700 points:

• Generalissima (submissions) with 1,150 points, mostly from 3 featured articles, 2 featured lists, 7 good articles, and 13 did you know nominations;
• Arconning (submissions) with 791 points, mostly from 2 featured lists, 8 good articles, 4 did you know nominations, and plenty of reviews;
• AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 718 points, mostly from a high-multiplier featured article on Genghis Khan and 2 good articles; and
• BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 714 points, mostly from 1 featured article on Susanna Hoffs, 2 featured lists, and 3 good articles.

Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated. Contestants put in extraordinary amounts of effort during this round, and their scores can be seen here. Guideline and policy news

• Following an RfC, there is a new criterion for speedy deletion: C4, which applies to unused maintenance categories, such as empty dated maintenance categories for dates in the past.
• A request for comment is open to discuss whether Notability (species) should be adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.

Arbitration

• Following a motion, remedies 5.1 and 5.2 of World War II and the history of Jews in Poland (the topic and interaction bans on My very best wishes, respectively) were repealed.
• Remedy 3C of the German war effort case ("Cinderella157 German history topic ban") was suspended for a period of six months.
• The arbitration case Historical Elections is currently open. Proposed decision is expected by 3 September 2024 for this case.

Miscellaneous

• Editors can now enter into good article review circles, an alternative for informal quid pro quo arrangements, to have a GAN reviewed in return for reviewing a different editor's nomination.
• A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in September 2024 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Currently, there is a backlog of over 13,900 articles and 26,200 redirects awaiting review. Sign up here to participate!

Hi Mentor, I'm so thankful there is someone to bounce questions off as the info on Wiki is so vast. I have a question. I am attempting to create an article for an artist but I don't think I 'moved' it correctly. All info was properly sourced and cited. I read through the applicable instruction pages (Talk, Move, Mainspace, etc) but I continue to encounter the error of the page being called 'Talk'. And now it looks like it's been removed. Can you provide any advice? Once I figure this out, there are a few other Articles that I'd like to create based upon my interests in the NYC art scene. Thanks! @DavidMagana: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Your problem is that you didn't actually move the page but instead you created a redirect— from draftspace, presumably— to the article mainspace. That isn't allowed, so Jo Ellen Van Ouwerkerk has been deleted. Please read Wikipedia:Cross-namespace redirects. In the future, you can create your draft using WP:AFC (take a look at that link) and a reviewer such as myself will review the draft, and if it's suitable for Wikipedia, we can move it properly into the mainspace. Hi RElativity! I wonder if I can sense check something with you please: I have created a new draft article for review (Draft: Dafydd Rogers). The reason I created it was because I noticed that the page on the producing partnership between two well known UK producers (DAvid Pugh and Dafydd Rogers) had been edited after the dissolution of the partnership, writing one of them out of the record. I think this was actually in very bad faith. I added back the name of Rogers to the article now named for the other (David Pugh) and then created a separate entry for Rogers. Almost all of the citations in the Pugh entry refer to the partnership so I think the criteria for notability is equal between the two. My article was then almost immediately declined as it was identified as being too similar to the other. I think this is because the partnership (David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers) and the name Dafydd Rogers redirects to the single entry (David Pugh) which gives the misleading impression that the Pugh article is definitive when in fact this entry was renamed from David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers to David Pugh. I think I've supported my draft with citations that demonstrate notability and I think there is an argument to be made for each man having their own entry as they are both continuing to be active independently of each other and had lives before they met each other as well. @Starline Ships: Likely no. It depends on a couple of things, such as how recent the edit was, but it shouldn't affect you. Hello @Apon220, and welcome to Wikipedia! The simple answer is: creating an article about your own business is strongly discouraged. The long answer is that the problem with you creating an article about your business is that you will be biased in writing that article. On Wikipedia, we are very strict about keeping our articles with a neutral point of view, and since you would be writing about your own business, it would be much harder for you to adhere to that. In addition, you would have a conflict-of-interest (please read WP:PSCOI for more information on this) and therefore would have to abide to our policy on paid editing. If your company is truly notable, someone else will create an article about it someday. One last point: if someone offers to create an article for you for a fee, this is a scam (read WP:SCAM for more information and what do do just in case that happens). As an Islamic scholar and preacher with a significant following around the world, Gülen is a controversial figure, but not universally recognized as the leader of a terrorist organization. To submit a draft for review, start editing the page in source mode, not visual editor (if you need help with this let me know) and add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the page. Hopefully, your article will be reviewed promptly— although we do have a long-ish queue.

However, just from a quick glance, I think that it's unlikely that this draft will be accepted without some changes. Reading Help:Your first article is important to find out how you can correct those issues (if you can at all). One problem that stands out to me is your citations. You'll need to convert them to inline citations instead of a list at the end. This page can help with that. The second problem is the sources themselves. Google is not a source— it is a search engine. You'll have to cite the source that Google gets the information from. I don't know about the second source, but the third source is a blog, which has to follow WP:BLOG. Please see Wikipedia:Reliable Sources for what sources are acceptable or not. If you want to find out if and how you can fix these problems, it's helpful to read the pages I linked here. If you have any further questions, let me know. The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

There is a lack of resources in rural areas due to which children have to face many problems! If experienced teachers from rural areas are selected, then they try to give good education to the children even in these circumstances so that children do not have to face many difficulties.

Some suggestions for teachers to improve education of rural children and motivate children for education are as follows:

2) Teacher training that addresses the roles, challenges and expectations of rural teachers.

I don't know how the program works too well, but as to why spelling mistakes are not corrected automatically, I would guess it would have something to do with the fact that it would cause more problems than it would solve. A bot that would correct a common typo might correct that typo where it isn't supposed to be corrected, like with a company name. I can't think of any examples in particular right now, but if you're still confused, let me know and I will think of one. If you took the picture of Celebrini yourself, you should be okay to use it. Other than that, there are very very specific guidelines for uploading non-free images. My advice for you is to take a look at step three of the Wikipedia:File upload wizard, and try to see where your image would fit in. The first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.

Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

• Gog the Mild (submissions) with 1,168 round points, mainly from 4 featured articles and 4 good articles on old military history, in addition to an assortment of GA and FA reviews.
• Generalissima (submissions) with 1,095 round points, mainly from 2 FAs, 2 featured lists, 8 GAs, and 16 Did You Know articles mainly on historical topics.
• BeanieFan11 (submissions), with 866 round points from 20 GAs, 23 DYKs, and 2 In the News articles primarily about athletes.
• Sammi Brie (submissions), with 846 round points from 16 GAs about radio and TV stations, 45 GA reviews, and 3 DYKs.
• Hey man im josh (submissions), with 816 round points from 5 FLs about sports and Olympic topics, 46 FL reviews, 3 ITN articles, and a large number of bonus points.
• MaranoFan (submissions), with 815 round points primarily from 3 FAs and 1 GA about music, in addition to 9 article reviews.

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. I know how complicated it is to start editing Wikipedia—heck, even after years of editing, I'm still learning as well. There are some tasks at the Wikipedia:Task Center that you might find easy enough to start out with, and they really help improve the encyclopedia. I think what you're referring to is translating articles from one language to another. The first step is to make sure you know the language, since a machine translation is worse than nothing, and then you can take a look at Help:Translation. That being said, translating articles is a pretty hard task that I wouldn't recommend for newcomers, because you have to learn some of the basics of what articles are formatted like to be able to translate articles, which can be only really be learned with time. Try some of the tasks at the Task Center, learn, make some mistakes, and then it would be awesome if you can help translate articles. Hello, I'm trying to make a wikipedia article about my uncle who is an innovator and an academic. When I try posting his photo it keeps getting taken down with the explanation it lacks exif data and does not contribute to wikipedia. The issue you're describing is currently taking place on Wikimedia Commons, which is technically not Wikipedia but one of our sister projects, so you may get a more accurate answer at their help desk. That being said, your picture was deleted for the first and time because it appeared to be for personal use and not for any educational reason (see here for more details), and was deleted for the second time because it was a copyright violation (see here for more details). I don't know too much about EXIF data, and after I read this page, I'm not sure why it's a problem, but I'm not that experienced in Commons. However, if you want to make sure that your picture is able to be uploaded, you should create the article about your uncle first by going through the steps at your first article carefully, and you will have to declare a conflict-of-interest, which you haven't done yet. Then, only if the article is accepted, can you upload a picture you took yourself (not a picture already online) to Wikimedia Commons. Any further questions about Wikimedia Commons should probably go to their help desk, as I'm not that experienced there and might not be able to help you perfectly, but if you need any help with anything else on Wikipedia, such as working on your draft, I'll be happy to help! @Boskovicdd: I'm fine with whichever way you want. I could do an in-depth review, or you could just ask me general questions, or both. As for your question, you can't just cite your search in Google Scholar or Google Patents, because they're not sources in themselves. All their information comes from somewhere. You'll have to use the individual results as a source. For example, this citation to Boscovic's profile in Google Scholar would not work, but this article of his would. @Boskovicdd: This is a long response, so get ready.

Yes, generally, you should disclose your COI in every edit you make to your sandbox, as per WP:DCOI (although I imagine that can be tedious). Though I don't think I see your edit summary with the declaration in the sandbox history? But anyways, here's some feedback that might help:

• Lead— "an academic, innovator, and entrepreneur."— The word innovator is a bit too promotional-sounding. You might want to read WP:PEACOCK to learn about which words you should and shouldn't use. That applies for any other sentences in the article.
• Academic Career— "at several prestigious universities"— again, prestigious wouldn't really work here. I would remove it.
• Key Research Contributions—"prestigious journals and conferences"— same point as above
• Entrepreneurial Ventures— "a company focusing on advanced internet technology, research, and innovation"— taking the feedback from above, how about rewording this to "a company focused on internet technology and research"?
• Innovations and Technological Contributions—"Dr. Bošković is an innovator in various fields, including digital mobile communication systems, cognitive radio networks, and distributed ledger technologies."— You're going to probably need a citation here. That said, "innovator", again, is not the best word for Wikipedia's purposes. My suggestion is to reword this to "Dr. Bošković works in various fields, including digital mobile communication systems, cognitive radio networks, and distributed ledger technologies."
• Some of your headings (i.e. "Innovations and Technological Contributions", "Key Research Contributions", "Major Collaborations") are also a bit promotional-sounding. How do you think you could reword these?

But the biggest thing above all these, is notability. I'm sure your uncle did great things, but you've got to prove that to us. How? By making sure that your draft is supported by multiple reliable, secondary sources independent of the subject to show that Mr. Bošković meets the Wikipedia criteria for academics.

Hello, I removed the problematic subheadings and reworded some parts of the text to ensure neutrality. I have another question, you said profiles like the reference to his ASU search profile or his ieeexplore are not individual results, so I was wondering if they could be referenced as I did with his academic career, because these sources say where he was employed and when. If not, what could be a credible source for his schooling and professional career? As you can see I have bullets of where he served as a faculty member, so I was wondering If i had to cite each bullet individually or could I just put a citation at the last one which leads to his ASU search profile -> public work where all his employments are visible. One more question regarding whether credible sources are government sources as I cited with the Karadjordje star awards, and is It okay for the sources to be in cyrilic along with the translation in the brackets (the site can also be google translated) or should I put a news citation there. @Boskovicdd: Sorry for the wait, been busy with off-wiki life stuff. You can use the ASU search profile—it's not ideal, but it's okay. An ideal source would be a journal or news article (something like that). As for where he served as a faculty member, you can also cite the ASU profile. Sources from the government have different degrees of reliability depending on the government (e.g. a government source from the UK is more reliable than one from North Korea). This government source you used is probably reliable, but I can't read Serbian, so it's hard to say for me. You can absolutely have sources in other languages.

The draft still has a problem with sources that establish notability—there are a lot of references to where he worked and things he published, etc., but not as many things that prove he passes WP:GNG. @Boskovicdd: The stuff that would go into a paragraph about Notability—which might not be the best title for that, but I'm not sure what that paragraph would be about—might be better suited to going into the other parts of the article. For the Karadjorje star reference, you can use both sources—the original one and the news article. To publish a photo of him, again, you'll have to wait until the article is published before you try uploading a photo so the photo is not deleted. When you are ready to add a photo, make sure it's one you took yourself.

A couple more bits of feedback:

• We don't generally add external links in the body of articles, and I see that you've added a lot of external links. These links can go as citations in the article, and/or you can put 2-3 really important links in a separate "External Links" section at the end of the article. One of the pages I worked on, Boot Monument, has an external links section at the very end of it, so you can see what it should look like if you choose to go down that path.
• I'm seeing a lot of references, but not a lot of references we can use to establish notability. There are many links to his work profiles, which doesn't help for WikiNotability. You'll need to make sure your work complies with WP:42.
• You should be approaching the point where you can submit this draft and get feedback from another reviewer that might have insights I don't have.

@Boskovicdd: So, writing a Wikipedia article is a bit different from writing an essay or news article. WP:TONE will help you a lot. You need to imagine that you have no opinion on Dr. Boscovic and you are stating the facts in a interesting but "dry" way. Here are some pieces of feedback from that one section:

• Dr. Boscovic is often featured in articles and podcasts discussing the evolving landscape of blockchain technology— try rewording to "Dr. Boscovic has been featured in [name the SPECIFIC articles and podcasts here] that discuss blockchain technology"
• His insights into the future of cryptocurrencies and their integration into mainstream finance and business models are widely valued and shared with a broad audience. this sentence is not helpful in Wikipedia terms. The best thing to do is to remove it.
• His expertise in blockchain technology has garnered international recognition, leading to— try "His experience in blockchain technology has led to"
• Dr. Dragan Boscovic has offered insights— "Dr. Boscovic has studied".
• thereby fostering innovation — remove this part of the sentence. Words like "innovation", "recognition", and "widely valued" are not good for an encyclopedic tone.
• In the lead of the article— Dr. Dragan Boscovic is considered an expert on digital asset management, consensus protocols, and trustless information systems, frequently providing commentary on the future of digital assets and cryptocurrency— reword to "Dr. Boscovic has worked on digital asset management, consensus protocols, and trustless information systems, and has frequently commented on the future of digital assets and cryptocurrency"
• You still have a ton of external links in the article. Remove them from the article and attach them as footnotes instead to use as references. You should remove the Media Presence section and use those links as references, as they will help you establish notability.

Unfortunately, this is probably not a good idea at this time, because creating articles on Wikipedia are very difficult. There are many technical aspects to Wikipedia that take a lot of learning, but some of the tasks at the Task Center can help you learn those things. For example, all subjects of Wikipedia articles must pass our notability guideline, which does not include the number of followers. I see that Soo has over 4.7 million followers on Youtube, but this means nothing for Wikipedia's purposes—she must have multiple published secondary sources that are reliable (from a trustworthy source) and independent (not something she's published) of her. 1. The article relies a lot on interviews for sources, which are considered primary sources. Please be careful with using them, and read what I just linked there to find out when and how to use them.
2. The tone of the article has definitely improved. There are still some parts that could use some work, such as "which featured an immersive installation inspired from kink clubs" — "immersive" is not a neutral word. Also, there are some parts of the article, such as "employs kinetic sculptures to explore dynamics within corporate culture", that sound a bit interpretive (for lack of a better word). You could add quotes instead, so if someone said something similar to that, you could add it in quotes and say who said them.
3. I can't find some of your citations, such as "Nick Doyle et le bar à ressources humaines". When I look it up on Google, it doesn't think it exists. It would be helpful if you could provide a link to them.

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

• BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,233 round points from 24 good articles, 28 Did you know articles, and one In the news nomination, mainly about athletes and politicians
• Thebiguglyalien (submissions) with 1,127 round points, almost entirely from two high-multiplier featured articles on Black Widow (Natasha Romanova) and Grace Coolidge, in addition to two GAs and two reviews
• History6042 (submissions) with 1,088 round points from four featured lists about Michelin-starred restaurants, nine good articles and a good topic mostly on Olympic-related subjects, seven ITN articles, and dozens of reviews
• Gog the Mild (submissions) with 1,085 round points from three FAs, one GA, and four DYKs on military history, as well as 18 reviews
• Arconning (submissions) with 887 round points, mostly from four FLs, six GAs, and seven DYKs on Olympic topics, along with more than two dozen reviews

In addition, we would like to recognize Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. The long answer is that the problem with you creating an article about yourself is that you will be biased in writing that article. On Wikipedia, we are very strict about keeping our articles with a neutral point of view, and since you would be writing about yourself, it would be much harder for you to adhere to that. In addition, you would have a conflict-of-interest (please read WP:PSCOI for more information on this) and therefore would have to abide to our policy on paid editing. If you are truly notable, someone else will create an article about you someday. One last point: if someone offers to create an article for you for a fee, this is a scam (read WP:SCAM for more information and what do do just in case that happens). Hello! I'm quite a new user on Wikipedia and I've got a couple of questions to ask, if you don't mind. What exactly makes an inappropriate use of primary sources? I know that on Wikipedia, we are supposed to prioritise secondary sources, but in some scenarios, such as when talking about personal life in a biography article, the best information would come from the person themselves, surely? In this case, would it be okay to use primary sources from the person themselves? And another question: what makes an inappropriate primary source? Are we allowed to just use quotes from that person, or a video of them saying it, as a source? Is a FAQ from them an acceptable source? A general rule is to err on the side of caution—i.e. don't use the source at all if you're unsure. Actually, a lot of the times, the best information does not come from the person themselves, since they will often be biased (i.e. less likely to say something bad about themselves). If you need to use a primary source, make sure it is published in a reliable source, and don't use primary sources for especially controversial claims. I expect that such a sync will also cause more technical issues that I am unfamiliar with, since it's not even possible to sync/merge two accounts currently.

Articles on Wikipedia are difficult to create, because it involves knowledge of many policies here, which is best learned through experience. One of our policies on Wikipedia is notability, which states that any topic of an article must have multiple sources that are not biased and represent all viewpoints of the topic fairly (more information on reliable sources is available at WP:RS). If a topic does not presently have those sources, it can't presently be created into an article. In addition, articles must be written from a neutral point-of-view—so it's not promoting the topic. This is also very hard to do. My recommendation is to start learning about different things on Wikipedia by taking a look at some of the things you can do at the Task Center. Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn. Hi there! I was wondering if you might be able to answer a question I have. I have been adding references/citations on the Wikipedia page 'Tarlov Cyst'. I recently had someone remove a reference I had added, and their comment just said "Predatory Source". I'v tried to search Google to find out what about the reference makes it a 'Predatory Source' but I am stil confused. The reference is:

@Tarlovcystinfo: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Some more detailed information can be found at Predatory publishing (what a predatory source is in general) or WP:VANPRED (how this relates to Wikipedia). Basically, a predatory journal will allow authors to publish their works without a proper peer review or fact checking process. This damages the reliability of a source (as we can't tell if the information in it is correct), and since we like to use reliable sources, works from predatory sources are generally not accepted for use in articles (with certain exceptions). Don't worry, it's a pretty common mistake, and one I've made before. If you're ever not sure about a source, you can ask for feedback at the reliable sources noticeboard. Guideline and policy news

• Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
• Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

Technical news

• Administrators can now restrict the "Add a Link" feature to newcomers. The "Add a Link" Structured Task helps new account holders get started with editing. Administrators can configure this setting in the Community Configuration page.

Arbitration

• The arbitration case Indian military history has been closed.
  • South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic.
