Question from Zaptain United (18:28, 13 August 2025)

how to fight edit wars --Zaptain United (talk) 18:28, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Zaptain United and welcome to Wikipedia! You should not edit war with other editors. Doing so will result in a block. Instead, you should start a discussion on the article's talk page if you disagree with an edit or revert. Relativity ⚡️ 17:24, 14 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from Danna.lee.walker (17:35, 13 August 2025)

Can you change a photo to watercolor --Danna.lee.walker (talk) 17:35, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Danna.lee.walker! I'm assuming you mean adding a watercolor filter to an image used on a Wikipedia article, correct me if I'm wrong. Usually the best practice is to keep the image as-is, especially in this case, but you can start a discussion on the article's talk page if you think this would be an improvement. Question from BAPitts (19:54, 23 August 2025)

Yesterday I spent 4 hours editing the article 'Brazil, Indiana'. I saved after each group of edits, which were extensive. Then, after 4 hours, the article reverted to its original form, and I received a message from the wikibot. This was extremely discouraging Can you tell me why my work was undone? --BAPitts (talk) 19:54, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

@BAPitts: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! That bot tries to revert obvious vandalism, but sometimes it catches edits that aren't actually vandalism. It probably reverted you because you removed large chunks of text and replaced it with something else. You are free to restore your edit, but I suggest chunking the edits up a bit to make your edits a bit easier to review. Sorry about the wait. Let me know if you have any further questions! Question from Mmackenzie17 (17:43, 26 August 2025)

Hello. I work for a media company that owns several magazine brands. Some of them have Wikipedia pages and some don't. One of my tasks is to update the existing brand pages and create new ones for others. How do I go about doing that? --Mmackenzie17 (talk) 17:43, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

@Mmackenzie17: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! You should read this essay—it's going to go into more detail and might explain what I'm about to say better than I will here. You are being paid for your work, so you are a paid editor. This means you are going to have to follow stringent policies to be able to edit about your company. First, you must disclose your paid editing. To do this, use this link to create your userpage, then add {{paid|employer=your employer here}} to it (filling out the "your employer here") field. Then, if you plan to edit an existing article about your company, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Edit requests. To create an article, read Your First Article very carefully and create a draft at the WP:Article Wizard. If you need any more specific information, feel free to let me know, or you might get a faster response at our forum for newer users. Happy editing! Relativity ⚡️ 02:01, 27 August 2025 (UTC)

Draft:Quantum computing formulations with time, density, and velocity

Thanks!

Harold Foppele (talk) 15:43, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Harold Foppele, welcome to Wikipedia. I haven't read through the article very thoroughly, but there are two major problems that stand out to me: a) it's very confusing to a non-expert and b) you haven't shown us why this subject is suitable for a Wikipedia article. I'm sure you know what the "standard time-evolution operator" and "unitary evolution with environment-dependent contributions" is, but I don't, and I doubt most people would know either. Try to explain the concept in simple terms and use [[double brackets around a word or a term]] to link a relevant Wikipedia article, like this, to clarify more specific terms.
The bigger problem, though, is that you haven't given us multiple independent, reliable, and published sources with significant coverage of the subject that show us that quantum computing formulations with time, density, and velocity is notable. Right now, I don't think your sources are going to be enough to prove this is a notable subject. Wikipedia is not a reliable source because it relies on user-generated content. The source from the Journal of Statistical Physics might be okay (I can't tell if it talks a lot about your topic; again I am not an expert at physics or its terminology), but I don't think the other article is going to work. Anyone can publish an article on that website you got it from, and the article is not associated with a reputable journal, so we have no idea if proper peer review was performed. To prove that the topic is notable, you'll have to find some sources that meet the criteria I listed above. I suggest asking for help with this at WikiProject Physics, since the members there will know more about physics than I do. I hope this helps, and happy editing Relativity ⚡️ 01:10, 27 August 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 September newsletter

The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:

Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.

In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).

Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Question from MamaAnarkhia (03:31, 2 September 2025)

so like, let's say there's a quote ending with an inside punctuation mark, and an outside comma, i.e. blah blah, "Blah, Blah!", blah blah. do I remove the punctuation and add a comma, or is it fine? --MamaAnarkhia (talk) 03:31, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

@MamaAnarkhia: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! It depends. Usually, if the punctuation inside of the quotation marks is a period, you change it into a comma. For example, if the original quote is "He was running down the street." then you'd change it to After Bob encountered the monster, Bob was spotted by a bystander. "He was running down the street," said the witness.
But if your quote uses punctuation that is not a period, then you should keep the original punctuation mark. Example: After Bob encountered the monster, Bob was spotted by a bystander. "I think he was running down the street?" said the witness. or After Bob encountered the monster, Bob was spotted by a bystander. "He was running as fast as he could down the street!" said the witness.
Good question, and you may be interested in MOS:CONFORM and our language reference desk. Let me know if you have any further questions and sorry for the delay! Relativity ⚡️ 23:24, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

Dear Relativity I am new to wikipeida so I wouild like some tips on how should I edit articles professionally and look for good sources to back up the wording? --Teatimenew (talk) 18:31, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

@Teatimenew: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! When you're trying to add information to an article, the best practice is to start by finding sources first—and then using the information from the sources you found to add to the article. To find out what kind of sources we like to use for our articles, you can look here.
Adding information to articles is an area of Wikipedia that we need more volunteers for, and I'm glad you're interested in it. If you're ever curious, some more things you can do here can be found at our task center. If you have any further questions, you can let me know or get help at our forum for newcomers. Happy editing! Women in Green's 9th Edit-a-thon

Hello Relativity:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Editathon event in October 2025!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2025, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) editathon event with the theme What Women Do! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 different occupations or professions (or broader roles in society) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

A message from 11redharry

11redharry (talk) 00:14, 26 September 2025 (UTC) Hi I see you are listed as my mentor and I had a question. I posted to the Arcadia, CA page this source code: ==Politics==

United States presidential election results for City of Arcadia, CA
Year Republican Democratic Third party(ies)
No.  % No.  % No.  %
2024 9,384 42.83% 11,757 53.66% 770 3.51%
2020 9,603 38.58% 14,831 59.58% 457 1.84%
2016 6,850 37.58% 10,379 56.93% 1,001 5.49%
2012 9,219 48.35% 9,431 49.46% 418 2.19%
2008 10,191 48.36% 10,372 49.21% 512 2.43%

Arcadia has voted Democrat by narrow to solid margins from 2008-2024. There was a large shift to the Democrats from 2008-2016, which had partially rebounded by 2024. [1]

I noticed I would publish it and then when I'd check later it would disappear. I reposted it twice because I thought maybe I had forgotten to publish it or it was taken down by mistake. After the second repost it was taken down again and a user wrote on like my page that I didn't have a reliable source. I was confused what he meant. The source is .gov and is where I got the data in the results chart and the text is also just a written summary of what I saw in the data. I think he thought that I had no source for the data in the chart, but I just put it below the text since it was for both of them.

I'm not sure what I have to do to get it published. I asked him but I thought it was kind of rude that he just posted that on my page with no warning and doesn't explain what he means by unreliable. Sorry I am new and worried he is going to gate keep the page and I suck at code haha. It also made me kind of ticked because it took me a long time to get the data together and I double checked every number as I wrote them into a sheet and then into a template. I feel like I can just use the same source template but add it too the chart too? Or maybe I need to do a sperate source for each document, as the url I cited is a page with links to each respective document.

Thanks for your time.

In this case, the issue with your edit was that you linked to a website that contains a long list of documents, but didn't link to the specific document where the information came from. In the future, make sure to link to the specific document, not just the broader website.
Also, be careful when drawing conclusions from multiple sources. From what you wrote on your user talk page, it sounds like (correct me if I’m wrong) you took information from several of those documents to draw a conclusion on how the people of Arcadia voted. That might be considered synthesis, which isn't allowed on Wikipedia. Synthesis is when you combine facts from different sources to make a conclusion that none of the sources make explicitly. We just want to know what the sources explicitly say.
If you ever get a warning and don’t understand why (which is frustrating), you can ask the person who left it by replying to the warning and starting your message with {{ping|USERNAME}} to notify them. You can also ask questions at our forum for new users, or contact me here (though the forum might get you a faster response since there are people there pretty much all the time).
If you're having trouble editing in the source editor (what you called "code"), you might find the Visual Editor easier. You don’t need to know wiki markup to use it.
I tried to explain everything as clearly as I could, but let me know if anything’s still confusing. Happy editing! Relativity ⚡️ 22:37, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
Awesome thank you. I'll leave out the text as it sounds like I was synthesizing which is not allowed. I'm going to put it back up with a ref citation to each source, eg 2024= [2]. Only thing I'm not sure of is where is the best place to put them. Anyway, appreciate your answer and I will ping the mod who removed my content and let them know what I am doing. 11redharry (talk) 22:58, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
Pinged them as you mentioned, thanks for that. Seems like it is just as you said and now my references to each document I made will be fine to use for the chart. I still think I'll leave my text summary off and just let people figure out for themselves what trends there have been, because of the synthesis issue. 11redharry (talk) 03:39, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
