Well done for tidying up lots of meaningless image names. Two suggestions: 1) rather than just moving them, if they have an appropriate licence, why not use the Commons helper to transfer them to a sensible name on the Commons; 2) if you are only moving them within Wikipedia, then db-re dirty po is a better deletion reason than G6. See these three edits to encourage you to go directly to Commons. OK, thanks for clearing that app ... I mean, up (seriously, I'm not joking, I actually did make that typo :-)). Will say that in the future.

Of course, it wouldn't be too hard to just print-to-file and thus convert the scanned nom to a PDF (not so much for our benefit as on the state's part, since they set that page up back when Adobe still hadn't released the patent on the format). I agree completely. There isn't a really good place to see the statistics on what percentage of web users have what plugins installed, but the last time I checked, I think Java only had ~80% proliferation, while PDF and Flash plugins were in the high 90s. Though Adobe hasn't released their patents on PDF, the format is a royalty free ISO standard, which I believe makes it far more open than parts of Java. Still, I'd rather the state released its documents as a series of legalese-unencumbered, high-res images. --Gyrobo (talk) 17:43, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also like to mention that I am not ungrateful for any images you nominated for deletion, obviously a picture of a mountain isn't incredibly useful if you can't tell what mountain it is. The admins should know enough to check before they delete, but I don't think they do. That's fine, though I suggest you mark User:Androiduser/ABH *rubs forehead twice* for speedy deletion by placing {{db-u1}} on it. That page is basically nonsensical, and would be speedily deleted if moved into the main namespace. Hi, I noticed that you tagged a few images (File:DSC03909.JPG and File:DSC03917.JPG) as not having permission. They are from Russ Ebert's collection, but they were uploaded by User:Mekugi, and the uploader claimed copyright. I see no reason to doubt that Russ Ebert is Mekugi. Enter the words Russ Ebert Mekugi into Google and you will see what I mean, Russ simply uses Mekugi as an online screen-name. Similarly I came across images like File:DSC04042.JPG. The uploader says the author is Jason, but the uploader's name is User:Sky89, and they claim they own the copyright. Obviously this person was not named Sky89 at birth, so why can't we assume that they are telling the truth and that their name is Jason? ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 11:11, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A similar thing happened recently regarding images uploaded by User:Net efekt. He ended up filling out an OTRS ticket confirming that he was the copyright holder (I don't know the specifics, because I don't have OTRS access). Regarding the Jason images, File:Viplounge.JPG provides enough evidence for me that the uploader is indeed named Jason (can't believe I missed that). The issue I have with the Mekugi images is that there is no edit where the user definitively says "I'm Russ Ebert". I'm going to remove the DI tags and take them to wp:PUF, to allow the user time to confirm their identity. --Gyrobo (talk) 13:47, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed the file name of File:Russ and Spear.jpg seemingly identifies the subject as Russ Ebert, and is used on Mekugi's user page, in a manner suggesting that it is a photo of the user. I would still feel more comfortable with an OTRS ticket, or a more explicit declaration of the user's identity, but I'm sufficiently convinced that Mekugi and Russ Ebert are the same person, that I'm going to remove the DI tags. --Gyrobo (talk) 13:57, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to have a look at Criticism of Apple Inc.. There is a newish user making rather sweeping changes in the name of "npov", but the changes actually don't reflect the criticisms that have been made at all, so it looks like it might be a pro-apple person. Before an edit war begins, it would be helpful to have another set of eyes. I restored some of what the user chopped out, and got reverted, but haven't had time to really look at it further. Thanks! I see how you have withdrawn a request for a map of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, because you found that OpenStreetMap can create such maps under a free license. I don't see such a map on the Wallkill article, but I would like to know if you have had any success with using OpenStreetMap. The Hudson Valley Rail Trail is a paved 4-mile (6.4 km) east–west rail trail in Ulster County, New York, stretching from the Hudson River through the hamlet of Highland. It was originally part of the Poughkeepsie Bridge Route, a rail corridor that crossed the Hudson via the Poughkeepsie Bridge. Controlled by a variety of railroads throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the bridge was damaged and became unusable after a 1974 fire. The section of the corridor west of the Hudson was acquired from a convicted felon by Ulster County in 1991 and transferred to the town of Lloyd. During the 1990s, a broadband utility seeking to lay fiber optic cable paid the town to pass through the former corridor. The town used part of its payment to pave the route and open it as a public rail trail in 1997. While the trail originally ended at Route 44–55, it was extended eastward between 2009 and 2010, intersecting Route 9W and continuing to the Poughkeepsie Bridge. The bridge, now a pedestrian walkway, connects the trail with the Dutchess Rail Trail to the east, creating a 30-mile (48 km) rail trail system that spans the Hudson. La Stazione is an Italian restaurant based in a disused train station in the village of New Paltz in Ulster County, New York. It stands on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, which was opened in 1993. The building was the first of two railroad stations constructed in the town of New Paltz, and it is the only former Wallkill Valley Railroad station standing at its original location. Built in 1870, it burned down in 1907 and was rebuilt later that year (pictured). The rise of the automobile caused the railroad to end passenger service in 1937; by 1959 the station was completely closed and sold off. It was then used for a variety of businesses, including serving as a public-access television station. Freight service along the Wallkill Valley line continued until 1977, when the corridor was shut to regular rail traffic. The building was in such a state of disrepair by the 1980s that it was almost demolished, and the nearby tracks were torn up and sold for scrap by 1984. However, the station avoided demolition and was renovated in 1988, becoming a restaurant in 1999. It was expanded in 2003 and served as the setting for a scene in a 2008 mob film. (Full article...)

Joppenbergh Mountain is a nearly 500-foot (150 m) mountain in Rosendale Village, in Ulster County, New York. The mountain is composed of a carbonate bedrock overlain by glacially deposited material. It was named after Rosendale's founder, Jacob Rutsen, and mined throughout the late 19th century for dolostone that was used in the manufacture of natural cement. Extensive mining caused a large cave-in on December 19, 1899, that destroyed equipment and collapsed shafts within Joppenbergh. During the late 1930s, Joppenbergh became the site of several ski jumping competitions, which continued until the early 1940s. Skiing began again in the 1960s, when a new slope was built on the mountain, and the revived competitions continued until 1971. In March 2011, the Open Space Institute offered to purchase Joppenbergh and sell it to the town. The Rosendale town board initially agreed to the deal the following month, with payment planned to come from a surplus fund. That June, however, the board found that the surplus fund had already been exhausted and could not cover the entire cost of the purchase. The 2009 special election for the 20th congressional district of New York was held to fill the vacancy created when Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand was appointed US senator from New York, replacing Hillary Clinton, who had been appointed Secretary of State in the Obama administration. The two major-party candidates were Democrat Scott Murphy (pictured), a private businessman, and Republican Jim Tedisco, the minority leader of the New York State Assembly. Early polls favored Tedisco, but by February the race was considered a toss-up. The Republican Party considered the election to be a referendum on Obama's economic policy and injected significant funding into Tedisco's campaign. Major issues included Obama's stimulus plan, which Murphy supported while Tedisco eventually opposed. One early vote count had the candidates tied at 77,225 votes each. There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. Thank you for the article, introduced (in 2011): "The smaller of two rail trails created from the defunct Wallkill Valley Railroad's corridor, the Walden – Wallkill Rail Trail stretches between two counties in upstate New York. While not as widely known as the larger, northern trail, it nonetheless sports a peaceful and scenic route, all its own.
