Archived discussions and the ⌘F problem
Is there a way to have this default to |collapse=yes while it's on the regular discussion page, but to expand to show the content after it's been archived? Collapse-worthy content has a higher than average need to be presented in dispute resolution forums, and ⌘F doesn't work when the content has been hidden this way. I believe the patch in T327893 would allow content inside collapsible templates (even when collapsed) to be searchable with a browser's "Find in page" feature. The browser should automatically expand the template when the search feature locates the content inside it. Demos are available on this first test page (search for "secret content") and on this second test page (search for "Moon Hee"). I wonder if there is any way to have this patch implemented sooner? — Newslingertalk17:56, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
While the Safari support will probably be addressed soon, we would also need to have T327893 implemented before the problem on Wikipedia goes away for us. ESanders (WMF), would you possibly enlighten us on what would be needed for that task to be implemented, and if there is anything we can do to help? — Newslingertalk18:39, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ESanders (WMF), I had missed your update because I neglected to subscribe to this discussion. Right now, I can confirm that the functionality works properly on the English Wikipedia. Thank you very much for rolling out this patch. — Newslingertalk20:46, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not centered anymore?
The "Extended content" text isn't centered anymore as of this edit. I just now noticed. Please see my userpage to see what I mean: "Awards" is not symmetrical with the rest of the page. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:19, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, this template is the one that is centered: all others are a bit left to the middle, because their titles are centered after leaving out the space for the toggle button. This can also be seen by toggling: if you uncollapse or collapse any of the blue boxes (i.e. {{hidden}}), their titles slightly move, as the space left out for “[show]” is not the same as the space left out for “[hide]” (at least using my fonts, where i is much narrower than w). On the other hand, toggling the green box (i.e. this template) doesn’t change the layout, as both labels fit in the 4em space that’s manually left out (on both sides, which is what makes it balanced). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 14:04, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. Even when I click "show" on the Template:hidden banners on my userpage, they still don't line up with the above Awards banner. Is there anyway of getting these lined up again? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 21:46, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Of course they still don’t line up. What I tried to explain is that open {{hidden}}s don’t line up even with closed {{hidden}}s (let alone {{collapse top}}s). The solution is doing the same change in {{hidden}} (I don’t know how controversial that would be, though; such design changes can quickly get strong opponents). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:22, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Add role="presentation" on layout table
