Sebagian besar suku Lenape diusir dari tanah mereka akibat perluasan koloni Eropa pada abad ke-18. Pemerintahan Lenape melemah akibat datangnya penyakit baru seperti cacar dan penindasan yang dilakukan orang Eropa.[7] Aktivitas Iroquois kadang turut membantu proses ini. Orang-orang Lenape yang selamat membentuk kembali pemerintahan dan pindah ke barat di cekungan hulu Sungai Ohio. Perang Revolusi Amerika Seriakt dan kemerdekaan A.S. terus mendesak mereka jauh ke barat. Pada tahun 1860-an, pemerintah Amerika Serikat mengirim sejumlah besar anggota suku Lenape yang tersisa di Amerika Serikat Timur ke Teritori Oklahoma sesuai kebijakan pengusiran Indian. Pada abad ke-21, banyak orang Lenape yang tinggal di negara bagian Oklahoma, Kansas, Wisconsin, Ontario (Kanada), dan tanah lama mereka.
