Smart Lander for Investigating Moon![]() Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) was a lunar lander mission of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The lunar lander came to the Moon in January 2024.[1] Systems on the lander are known to have (operated or) been working, as late as April 2024. As a result of the lunar landing, Japan became the 5th country to soft land on the surface of the Moon.[2][3] HistoryIt was successfully launched on 6 September 2023 at 23:42 UTC (7 September 08:42 Japan Standard Time). It entered orbit around the Moon on 25 December 2023, and landed on 19 January 2024 at 15:20 UTC.[2][4] Planning for the mission: By 2017, the lander was planned to be launched in 2021,[5] but this was delayed until 2023.[6] The expected cost for developing this project is 18 billion yen.[7] References
