The Scottish open returnit as a full-rankin event, bein held as pairt o a new home nations series introducit i the 2016/2017 season wi the existin Welsh open an new Inglis open an Northern Ireland open toornaments.[2][3] The winner o the Scottish Open is awairdit the Stephen Hendry Trophy which is named i honour o Scottish seiven-time Warld Champion Stephen Hendry. Ding Junhui wis the defendin champion but he decidit no tae compete this year.
Marco Fu captured his third rankin title bi beatin John Higgins 9–4, haein trailed 1–4.[4]
