Philately WikiProject

You are right that I have not been active, either with Wikipedia or stamps, recently. Sad, but true. If there is a newsletter you post or something, perhaps I can continue to receive that as a reminder that I'm neglecting one of my favorite hobbies, in deference for real life demands. Unfortunately there is no neswletter. There are too few of us for that, but why not just put a few of the most popular philatelic topics, such as Stamp collecting or Postage stamp, on your watch list and every now and then there will be some edits that will remind you about philately. As you seem to have found out, to revert from the current version to the immediately preceding one, just hit the undo button. This comment might have well been moved to the talk page for people to discuss if it bears any merit, otherwise just add a comment like "unsourced edit". You will get the hang of it soon enough, so don't be afraid to experiment, use the sandbox, use the preview to see if what you are doing looks right, especially if you are doing anything complicated, before saving. External Stamp Link

The stamp magazine link is not a primary source. In fact, it doesn't even cite primary sources, so it can't even be considered a secondary source. If you consider that a legitimate source, then http://www.famousstamps.org/famousstampsindex.htm is just as good, and actually much better because all the stamps are located on one page, and it includes the much more coverage than the stamp magazine link. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.202.106.64 (talk • contribs) (14:14, July 11, 2007)

You are correct, it is not a primary source but is a secondary source. I already responded to your concerns on the page where you started the discussion about the removal of YOUR web link. Who are you? You never even sign your edits, you do not identify yourself in any way, you don't quote any sources and you really should read the external links policy that I left on your talk page with the two linkspam warnings. Without some evidence neither you, nor your web site, can be regarded as a reliable source while a acknowledged philatelic publication can be recognised as such. Also you have a conflict of interest in this situation too. Beside that your images, in general, are of poor quality, and one of my fellow editors suggests there are errors on your site. Postage stamps of Ireland FAC

Hi -- just a note to say I saw Tony's comment at FAC, and I'll see if I can have another go at copyediting. Tony is a perfectionist, but his changes do improve the article. If I have time this weekend I'll see what I can do. In the meanwhile I'm going to leave my support in place; I think it is professional level -- perhaps my standards are just lower than Tony's. Tony does seem like a perfectionist, nothing wrong with that though, but it puts a lot of pressure on. I have already done a few of his suggestions but I suspect he will pull the rest apart too. Hi Ww2censor. You are off to such a great start on the article David Feldman (philatelist) that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. Yes, congratulations! I'm really glad we now have a stamp FA; the first one is hardest because there is no example to copy, and little expertise in the WikiProject, so this one is really important. Well, I went out and tried to research them, but I'm so far having no luck. If I recall correctly, they feature a lower-case u over a lower case n within a circle, with a number or something. It is possibly related to UNSPSC. It may even have nothing to do with shipping or hazards, but I thought for sure I had seen it on a case of bleach bottles. --Mdwyer 21:37, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I found something! It is an IATA code, and it shows up on MSDS sheets as "IATA UN ID NUMBER" or something similar. For instance, 1791 appears to be bleach[1]. --Mdwyer 21:41, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I have been unable to keep close eye on it but it seems like the main page articles really gets swamped by vandals all day. Thanks for your efforts. I will look at it in a day or two and see if there are any constructive edits that should stay. I was out most of the afternoon only saw it early on last night and in the last hour or so. So what is the next philatelic, or Irish WP:FA we can collaborate on. I suggest Mail which was an FA some time ago, or President of Ireland which is on WP:FAR right now. You can normally tell when an article is on the Main Page, when it starts to appear every few minutes on Recent Changes. But it seems to have survived quite well [2]; I can't see anything major problems with the changes.

I'm sorry to have caused bother. IMO multiple projects should be nested, for conciseness(?). Either that or accept that there's a limit to number of projects that an article can be linked to, which would lead to projects being less than comprehensive. I'll stick to the consensus, of course. If "nested tag" means "nested=yes", then it does work (the only exception seems to be the "thoroughbred horse", see Talk:Kildare Town). Folks at 137 07:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Ireland banner

I think I have sorted the kinks out of the {{tl|WikiProject Ireland}} banner. I have a version on my sandbox although I have to check a few of the categories. I just "nicked" the current WP:Cities banner (which the old {{tl|WikiProject Ireland}} banner was based on). This version has the nested box fix. Excuse my ignorance, but your revised edition looks exactly the same as the current one except that you have added the nested requirement. Am I wrong here? How do you suggest I test it? Did you actually make a new temp template, not just alter the syntax as shown on the original template page. Did you look in the edit screen and is that he code you revised? Just add this {{User:Flowerpotman/sandbox/templtest}} to a sandbox page, or you can edit my sandbox. Apart from the problem with nesting, the existing version isn't showing the importance assessment. Try changing the importance of this page User:Flowerpotman/sandbox2. Minor clarification: The existing template is adding the page to the correct importance category, but it's not showing the importance assessment in the box. My version , or to be more accurate, the version I robbed from WP:Cities does. The {{tl|WikiProject Ireland}} template was based on an older version of the WP:Cities one, so I just grabbed their one and updated/modified it.FlowerpotmaN·(t) 01:14, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Both templates are adding your sandboxes to the category page but it looks like the first sandbox version works best - the sandbox2 has a problem as it is not showing the importance value. So can you drop the full working code into the current template and make a note on the template page saying it has been updated. It can apply to both {{tl|Irelandproj}} and {{tl|WikiProject Ireland}}, as the parameters of {{tl|Irelandproj}} are limited to class and importance: "class=" and "importance=". So dropping the new code in there would just make the Irelandproj template act the same as the other one. This has the added benefit in that Sarah won't be coming after me with an axe, as she has been using that template. Tell you what, it's getting late, even for me, and I left a note on Alison's page to test the version, so it might be better to leave avtually updating it until tomorrow, in case we missed something.FlowerpotmaN·(t) 03:05, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

nowiki-ing

Just noticed you were the nowiki-ing the template in talk pages. If you give the template in the {{tl|WikiProject Ireland}} form, with the tl|, that's parsed and displayed as a link to the template page, and no categories should appear. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:56, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Heights of Irish mountains

OK, I've just checked two, but it's enough. OSi Discovery 56 - 4th edition (the latest) gives Lugnaquillia as 925 m and Mullaghcleevaun as 849 m. These were the heights I entered. That would be an appropriate date indeed—26 years ago already - can't say I remember the details. On reading it recalled much that went on at the time, though it was not quite as big a deal in Dublin as it was in NI, but it was in the news pretty much daily once they neared death. ww2censor 01:18, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
