See Special:Diff/1283820024, in an attempt to remove the AMP url, it made the URL an unhelpful ambiguous URL.

Luckily, the URL wasn't really necessary before since it was syndicated from another source, which I replaced with the original source. I would not be surprised if a lot of yardbarker links did this, since they mostly syndicated then pull articles from other sources, but these become harder to find when they go from this amp url to a more ambiguous one. Might need a quick review to see if this happened anywhere else. If you have a list, I can go through and try and fix them with the original source. @Chew: Hi. Yes, none of the yardbarker URLs were usable when I found the issue a few weeks ago. So I added the yardbarker domain to the ignore list, and removed all the problematic yardbarker URLs from the database. There were quite a few of them. Currently there are only seven yardbarker URLs in the database that were operational. I undid all the changes I could find, seems like I missed some. Here is the schedule:

• July 9–15 - Call for candidates
• July 18–22 - Discussion phase
• July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

• The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
• Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
• The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
• The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.

Administrator Elections | Instructions for candidates

Thank you for choosing to run in the July 2025 administrator elections. This bulletin contains some important information about the next stages of the election process.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

• July 16–17: Housekeeping phase (we are here)
• July 18–22: Discussion phase
• July 23–29: SecurePoll voting phase
• July 30–c. August 3: Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the Housekeeping phase. Your candidate subpage will remain closed to questions and discussion. However, this is an excellent opportunity for you to recruit nominators (if you want them) and have them place their nomination statements, and a good time for you to answer the standard three questions, if you have not done so already. We recommend you spend this phase getting your candidate page polished and ready for the next phase.

The discussion phase will take place from July 18–22. Your candidate subpage will open to the public and they will be permitted to discuss you and ask you formal questions, in the same style as a request for adminship (RfA). You are strongly encouraged to be around on those dates to answer the formal questions in a timely manner.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. Anyone can see who has voted, but not who they voted for. You are permitted and encouraged to vote in the election, including voting for yourself. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see your vote total during the election.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time. This phase took approximately four days during the October 2024 election, but could take up to a week or two. Hey, there's a bug with your bot on nlwiki where nieuwsblad.be links are getting converted to hbvl.be, even though nieuwsblad.be doesn't use AMP. You can see it happening in these diffs: 69654475, 69574270.

@XXBlackburnXx: Hello. The bot is thinking the original URL is an AMP url because of the "amper" in it. Then the bot is trying to find a canonical URL for that amp url. The issue is, original URL/page (nieuwsblad.be) is mentioning the hbvl.be URL as the canonical urls. Looking at the pages, they both seem to be exactly the same. Blacklisting would be nice. The main issue isn't necessarily the websites themselves, but rather that when a site within a citation is replaced with hbvl.be, the rest of the citation parameters, such as |publisher= or |work=, no longer match appropriately. WikiTextExpander by Polygnotus, is this edition's featured script. At the click of a configurable hotkey, this script will find and replace or link a configurable list of phrases within the selected text in all source editors (even in the comment/reply field!). Besides allowing the quick insertion of templated messages, this script greatly mitigates the WP:WTF? problem by providing both the legibility of familiar words and the convenience of shortcuts. And to those asking, the capitalization of "Wikitext" as "WikiText" was a necessary sacrifice for far-more-memorable acronymy.

• CanonNi: AlertAssistant has been fixed and rewritten using OOUI instead of Twinkle's Morebits. Such modern, very tool. (Do note that the maintainer has since become inactive.)
• NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh/AjaxLoader has been updated to use modern JS APIs that replace the browser's URL bar with the link you clicked on to load in place. The "back" (and "forward") buttons also work now. Cool, innit?
• My prayers have been... answered? DreamRimmer/Search sort is a fork of PrimeHunter/Search sort that makes the 11 portlet links much smaller and nicer to look at.
• andrybak: Unsigned helper no longer shows an error when the message to sign was added in the earliest 50 revisions of a page's history. This is especially relevant to pages with short histories.

• Cyberdog958/Superlinks finally fixes the famous Bradv/Superlinks to work with Vector 2022!

• Many of our favorite scripts such as Fred Gandt/userResourceManager and Guarapiranga/search-shortcuts haven't been updated for Vector 2022. You could be the one to change that!
• Elominius/media timer and PrimeHunter/Search sort work, yet have alien user interface design. Someone could improve them...
• BilledMammal/Move+ needs updating to order list of pages handle lists of pages to move correctly regardless of the discussion's page, so that we may avoid repeating fiasco history.

We need scripts that...

• allow sorting lists of citations such as by URI or other identifier
• automatically convert the capitalization of citations' titles
• collect a list of discussion participants and generate a ping list
• automate starting merge discussions

In breaking m:Tech/News, Gadgets can now include .vue files. This makes it easier to develop modern user interfaces using Vue.js, in particular using Codex, the official design system of Wikimedia. Codex icons are now also available. The documentation has examples.

• Appo/Globstory integrates OpenHistoryMap, updating the map whenever hovering/clicking on a location or year, the latter of which changes the map to be (hopefully) accurate to the year selected. It's pretty interesting.

• 

  Somewhat similar to WP:NavPops, Awesome Aasim/linkinfo (pictured) provides a collection of links to replace the right-click context menu, presented beautifully.
• Chaotic Enby/Recent Unblock Highlighter is the #1 WP:ROPE dispensary of the year. Admins exclusive, naturally.
• Chew/HighlightQuotes: Makes all text between double quotes have a yellow background. Shiny.
• Daniel Quinlan/RangeHelper allows you to treat IP ranges as users and calculate the smallest range that contains specific addresses IP.
• Dbeef/C+ allows CheckUsers to generate a {{sock list}} from the Special:CheckUser page. Its checkboxes make this task hassle-free.
• DreamRimmer has been working at it with the state-of-the-art Vue.js mw:Codex UI lately!
  • /CHUHelper and /EFFPRH reply to username-change and edit-filter requests, respectively.
  • /DraftNoCat deactivates the categories on a draft article. Dogs are better, really.

  • 

    /EasySubpage (pictured) creates subpages... easily!
  • TBanHelper warns you when your current page's title contains certain namespaces or keywords, sternly.

No, this is not going to be the enduring tradition of S++ for the future. This was meant to be a joke for the special occasion on the first day of the fourth month but was delayed by four months because I'm lazy.

Hi Usernamekiran. I am sorry about the outcome at the admin election. I saw your comments at the debrief where you expressed disappointment at the lack of feedback on why your candidacy was unsuccessful. Since you and I have had positive interactions in the past, I wanted to reach out and offer my feedback. There were three main aspects of your candidacy that made it less likely to succeed, in my opinion:

• Firstly, the lack of a nominator likely put you at a disadvantage to other candidates. This is not to say it is impossible to succeed without a nominator (e.g. Curbon7 successfully nominated themselves in the current election), but I think having one helps a lot. I think this is especially true in the election format, where a lot of candidates are running at the same time—most voters probably don't have enough free time to do a deep dive on each candidate, so having a trusted member of the community vouch for you in detail at the top of your candidacy goes a long way to assuring those voters that you too are trustworthy. Additionally, you and your nominator will work together on presenting your nomination—many nominators will offer to review your answers to the three standard questions, for example, and help you improve them even before you submit your candidacy.
• Secondly, your content creation experience seems to be pretty weak. There are many members of the community who feel strongly that administrators should be experienced at contributing content and not just maintenance work (see e.g. User:Ritchie333/Why admins should create content, User:GregJackP/Admin criteria, WP:RFA42). Having at least one GA would be really helpful to demonstrate this, but even if you don't have any GAs, it is important that your RfA or AELECT nomination provides at least some examples of contributing sourced content to the encyclopedia. When candidates highlight only non-content-related work in Q2, I suspect many editors might see that as a red flag.
• Third, I felt that your answers to the three standard questions were a little weak. Aside from the nomination statement, the standard questions are going to be the main method by which the community will get to know you (especially in the election format, where voters don't have the benefit of seeing other voters' support rationales), and if you lead Q1 with a concession that your "editing has decreased" and find it "difficult to create content", I think that immediately sets the wrong tone for the reader. In Q2, it is okay to highlight some amount of maintenance/backend work, but what many voters are really going to be looking for there is content creation. In Q3, I recommend being more specific and detailed—I tried to help a bit by asking Q15 to have you expand on the Q3 answer. Q3 is important because it is where voters will get to know how you approach conflict, and vague, generic answers to Q3 often don't leave the right impression with voters.

You're welcome. I learned something important myself when I read your Q15 answer—I had no idea that the word "revert" can mean "reply" or "respond to" in Indian English. I suspect I am not alone. That is definitely something I can see causing confusion, and I wonder if there is a good place we can document that to raise awareness about the potential for confusion. @Mz7: this wasnt the reason for the incident from Q15 though, it was just a random example. Another phrase that can be easily misinterpreted is "what are you talking about?", in some parts of the world, it can be taken as "what is the discussion about", but in some parts, it means "are you crazy?", or "do you know what <stupidity><the f><or some other profanity indicating lack of knowledge/manners> are you talking about?

@Usernamekiran One other thing that might have hurt your chances a bit is that one of the voter guides expressed misgivings about your level of experience working in user conduct areas. While you had 200+ combined reports at WP:AIV and WP:UAA, only one was made within the last year and all but 14 were from 2020 or earlier. You similarly have 300+ edits to WP:ANI, but all but a couple dozen are over 3 years old. Your encouragement means a lot. @Ahecht I was aware of my lack of activity, while I could have increased it, I always felt that I should comment there unless I have direct interaction with users involved in discussion. On irrelevant note, in the past some RfAs have tanked because the candidate was too much active on "drama boards". This wasnt my concern though. The only thing I can think of right now to increase the activity with NPP again - in the past it had made me involved almost everywhere SPI, ANI, AFD, and many others. @White Spider Shadow: Hello. I was out of town for a few days. While Polygnotus were a little blunt, I wouldnt consider their response as impolite, nor personal attack. Wikipedia is a collaborative project. Helping each-other is the bane of it - Polygnotus responding to your question (even though it was directed at me) is completely normal. At the moment, your bot makes edits just a few seconds after any change.
