I was disturbed to see that after I reverted your change to Nineteen Eighty-Four you propagated this usage to thirty-some other pages. Please stop doing this and revert the changes you've made. This template is intended to convey information about content in other languages. Using it to showcase wikidata links not related to language is gross misuse. Regarding the intended use of this parameter, note that:

• The name of the template is "Interlanguage link".
• The documentation for the qid parameter says, "To link to the Wikidata table of languages in which the article is available, the parameters are..."
• The link is indeed to the table of languages, not to the wikidata entry as a whole.

I mean, the template could be changed from {{Interlanguage link}} to {{Wikidata fallback link}} to produce a WP:REDLINK and Wikidata link that looks the exact same way to the reader, but the {{Interlanguage link}} template has some benefits for editors that the {{Wikidata fallback link}} template does not, so I'd rather not. I can't say I see why this would be a problem (and I've had several articles pass WP:FAC with {{Interlanguage link}} used like this so it doesn't seem the people there do either)? It's also just a kind of future-proofing, not entirely unlike the red links themselves. TompaDompa (talk) 03:31, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
