Hi Tol,
You have been assigned by Wikipedia as my editing mentor - Nice to meet you! I have been dabbling in Wikipedia as a novice editor for three days now, and have a couple of questions. I come from a professional background in which I use hand-held photography and satellite and UAV imagery to provide context to articles which I have written, for various previous former employers over the past years. What I don't know is how to get past the attribution troll that refuses to let me use, for example, Google Earth or Maps imagery, with proper citation, in an edit. I won't lie and say the work is mine, though that seems to be the only way I can see to get the image admitted, so far. Can you help me with this issue?
Another question, how do I add things like my languages spoken to my User Page? BTW, I am NOT a strongly computer savvy guy, so please be gentle and pretty basic.
Thanks so much, Scott --Scott-Led (talk) 05:17, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Hi, @Scott-Led; welcome to Wikpedia!
- Regarding copyright & attribution: Most images (including satellite imagery) on the Internet are not allowed to be used on Wikipedia, even if attribution/citation is provided. This is because Wikipedia is freely licensed (giving very broad rights to others to reuse its content), and so generally cannot contain content that is not also freely licensed (there are some limited exceptions). Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:File copyright tags have more information on this.
- For languages: Wikipedia:Babel has information on this; there's wikicode that you can add to your user page that produces this effect. If you don't understand the instructions, feel free to ask for clarification.

Hello
I’m new to this but how do you go about creating an entry for someone? By way of background I’m an art historian so keen to get some more obscure woman artists represented on here.
Thanks --Cakehistorian (talk) 17:34, 7 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Hi @Cakehistorian; welcome to Wikipedia! Help:Your first article has relevant information for creating a new article. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 17:10, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
What do you think about my entry? My name is Robert Pawlak and or is an entry about myself. I am very open and would be grateful for any suggestions you may have.
Best wishes,
Robert --AmberBrain (talk) 16:16, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Hi @AmberBrain; welcome to Wikipedia! It appears that you're referring to the draft you have at User:AmberBrain/sandbox. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and so aims to contain articles about notable topics written from a neutral point of view. This draft would not be an acceptable Wikipedia entry because it is not written in a neutral, encyclopedic tone; rather, it has a promotional tone, reading more as a professional biography. As you are writing about yourself, this constitutes a conflict of interest; editing with a conflict of interest is strongly discouraged. I am leaving a standard message on your talk page summarising relevant information; in particular, please read our conflict of interest guideline. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 23:50, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
