WikiProject Horror has been under reconstruction for the past month, in hopes to re-invigorate participant activity and re-activate the Collaboration of the Month department. Please take a look at the project’s redesign and post any suggestions to the new Notice Board.
Spearheading this reconstruction movement has been interim coordinator Hornoir, with assistance from Bignole. An official election for Project Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator positions will be held in the coming weeks. Any active member of the project will be able to nominate for and/or vote on the positions. Please watch the coordinator’s page for developments.
WikiProject Horror currently has over 2600 articles within its scope; unfortunately, 2200 remain at Start-Class or below. Please help bring some of these articles up to (at least) B-Class. An article does not have to be the current Collaboration of the Month to gain assistance from dedicated editors like you.
Nemesis, an article on the fictional character from the Resident Evil series of games, was promoted to Good Article-Class in January.
A Friday the 13th WikiProject has been proposed and while the over-ridding consensus at the moment is that the scope is too small for a WikiProject proper, the proposal bears consideration as a possible task force for our project. Please comment on the proposal with your own thoughts on the matter.
A Halloween task force has been proposed at the WikiProject Council. Please comment on the proposal with your support and/or thoughts on the matter.
I've been going through the horror games category and tagging all of the articles there. Are you working from the same list, or are you tagging the articles that aren't in that category? BIGNOLE (Contact me)22:18, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
If you've got it covered what I'll do is find games not listed in the category and add them to the category, as well as tag them for the project, that way one pass covers them and any extras are already tagged. Is that OK? Someoneanother22:19, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
That's fair enough, I was thinking the same thing :) Clicked on the first few in the category and noted they'd been tagged. Thanks a lot, if anyone has converging interests in horror and video games it'll be useful for them to get the whole spectrum of games. Someoneanother22:22, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh, if you get down on your end and you want to help with the horror cat, then you can start from "Z" and work your way up. I'm just going down the list alphabetically. I have to take breaks every so often, because it's so tedious. Anyway, if you start from the bottom then we'll figure out when it's down as soon as we hit a couple that are already tagged. :D BIGNOLE (Contact me)22:37, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Ach, don't say that, I'm trying hard to wind it down and give it a rest awhile :) I would have done so before, but I was waiting for something to pass through Did You Know. A backlog has meant I've had days to find new things to fiddle with. You've both done some excellent work on the fighting game article, what a bloody mess that was before and how much more cohesive it is now. Someoneanother08:23, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
The userbox {{User Good Articles reviewed}} has been updated so that it can now link to a page in your user subspace where you keep track of all your GA reviews, if you have such a page. This can be done by adding a | and then the name of your user subpage (or subsection of your regular user page) wherever you have the template called. For example, on my user page I am using
{{User Good Articles reviewed|6|User:Rjanag/GA reviews}}
Nominations for the Coordinator positions are now open. The nomination process will run throughout March, with voting running throughout April. Any member of Project is welcome to nominate themselves for a Coordinator position.
The Project has a new Task Center, which allows any Project member to volunteer for as a Task Editor within the Project. Task Editor positions currently open include Project Promoter, Collaboration Coordinator, Peer Review Coordinator, New & Stub Article Monitor, and Article Monitor.

The VG Project Collaboration of the Week is a new effort to improve important video game articles of low quality. Every week, an article is random selected by AnomieBOT from the Stub-, Start-, and C-class categories that are rated either High- or Top-importance. Such topics can offer a reader a good deal of encyclopedic information about video games, but are often too underdeveloped or lacking the proper level of writing and sourcing to accomplish this.
All editors are welcome and encouraged to participate by offering their insights and suggestions. Having a pool of different editors, both old and new, will help maximize improvements to the articles as well as our editing skills.
History
Collaborative efforts have come and gone within the VG project several times before. The first such effort, the "Gaming collaboration of the week", began in October 2004 as a result of the several otherweekly collaborations popping up on Wikipedia. It proved to be quite successful at improving articles to meet Wikipedia's standard at the time, but the effort eventually saw less and less participation. A second effort, the "Improvement Drive", began in August 2005 with the intent of improving articles to FA-quality. However, few nominations and articles were selected. The decline in participation in the collaborations and peer reviews resulted in a third effort. It began in February 2006 as a workshop, but never got off the ground.
Numerous discussions have taken place on at WT:VG to jump start collaborations and improve the process to prevent its decline again. While previous collaborations selected any video game article, most editors felt focus should be on video game topics more encyclopedic in nature—topics that are also generally in poor shape because of lack of attention. A common problem mentioned was that previous nomination processes were lengthy and hindered participation. The current idea to automate the process was brought up by JohnnyMrNinja, which was further discussed to iron out the details.
Current collaboration
The current collaborative efforts began in mid-January 2009, and several articles have been improved by editors. The random choice is intended to minimize the selection process, which allows editors to focus on article improvement. Improvements include better organization of content, massaging and copy editing the prose, removing excess non-free images, and much more. The random choice is also meant to encourage participation from editors of varying interest and help prevent burnout. If the present selection is not to your liking, wait until next week. Editors are encouraged to add Template:Collab-gaming to their watchlist to see which article is selected. Recently selected articles are:

Thanks for the helpage with the Mercenaries thing on my snadbox. I have not been able to edit it properly myself because of revision but you have written it better then I would have done any way so that doesn't matter. It could be it's own article if we expand it enough and get as many sources as possible but until then the main article for Resi will have to do. Cheers again and maybe a barnstar later. -)'The Ninjalemming'14:06, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Oh, by the way I have started editing it, but I may need your opinion on it so I will start a talk page for may sandbox where we can discuss it. Just remember to watch list it first. -) 'The Ninjalemming'16:03, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
On March 30, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Bloody Fun Day, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
The WikiProject Video games Newsletter released its first issue a year ago. The newsletter is meant to help connect editors, keep them up-to-date with the activities of the VG project, and improve the knowledge of our members. We've compiled a list of questions to help gauge the effectiveness of the newsletter's first year.
Answers will be accepted for a three week period following the deliver of the March 2009 issue on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Just to clarify, this is not an April Fools' Day gag, and we would really appreciate honest criticism. Information obtained from this poll is intend to alter the newsletter for the better. So don't feel you should hold back or give answers similar to everyone else.
The VG Barnstar is an award given to Wikipedians recognized for efforts and contributions to improve and develop video game related articles.
The VG Barnstar is one of many Wikipedia Barnstars designed to be given to editors that have helped further the overall quality of Wikipedia. It was created in February 2006 by Jacoplane—see past discussion for details—and has been given to numerous editors since. Sometimes editors with multiple Barnstars use an alternative way to display them: ribbons.
Barnstars are designed to be given by anyone, so don't be shy as everyone enjoys appreciation. If you have noticed or have been impressed with the work of an editor, feel free to let them know by placing {{subst:Barnstar VG|"message" ~~~~}} on their talk page. The template uses a parameter to include a message expressing the reasons behind the award.
The next collaboration will be selected on April 30th, 2009. Please place suggestions for the next collaboration here and/or vote on current suggestions.

Someone another, I've learned a lot from you on the last two GA reviews you've given me. On behalf of Wikipedians everywhere, I award you this barnstar for your efforts teaching and guiding other editors. Keep up the good work! — Levi van Tine (t – c)16:34, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
The article Chocolate Castle you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Chocolate Castle for things needed to be addressed. MuZemike21:56, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, would you head back to the AfD [1] on Little Racers and see if the sources in the AfD are enough in your opinion? Thanks, Hobit (talk) 18:05, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Chocolate Castle Logo.gif)
Thanks for uploading File:Chocolate Castle Logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:52, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much :D Thank you as well for your work on it, the article is now as good as it can be, the hundreds of notable indie etc. games don't get a look in, so any which are in reasonable shape can give other editors ideas. Someoneanother09:00, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
I have nominated Bloody Fun Day, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bloody Fun Day. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Chzz ► 23:57, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
I did make some changes to better reflect the sources given in the article and added some other stuff, if you don't mind. I have also nominated it for DYK, but there is some opposition on the, uh, wording on the hook; see Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Appropriate for the main page? (I didn't even know it was humanly possible to squeeze all those words into a single, coherent sentence) :) Regards, MuZemike03:56, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Of course not, thank you. I added it to the new articles list because I wanted the project to be aware of the article and to alter it if necessary. McMillen is now at a stage where any game he releases gets attention, and virtually every time a new one is released his previous games get mentioned (not least Cunt), so the article was inevitable. Better off dealt with by experienced contributors than getting chucked up by a novice and causing issues. DYK, err.. it's not something I'd intended to go anywhere near with it, particularly as the details surrounding the two blogs' viewpoints haven't been added and McMillen's aim isn't specified either. If it does get on DYK, something on the misogyny angle might be more appropriate, but I'm not going to push for it. Someoneanother09:43, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the hook didn't get approved since it was too inappropriate, even though it was initally. Oh, well... MuZemike19:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
I'd have liked to (and thanks for the offer :) ) but I'm struggling to do anything ATM so can't sign up to anything. Things IRL have me snowed under, unfortunately. Someoneanother21:17, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Kizor, not sure if you remember this but I nominated this article for deletion awhile ago due to a lack of sourcing, and it was deleted. Despite it obviously being a disappointment, the article creator was cool about it, and I was hoping some decent sourcing would appear so it could be reinstated. It's been put back by a new contributor, apparently copied and pasted from the version that still exists in user space here or a deletionpedia-type thing online. The article actually contains two reasonably-sized sources (one of which, despite being a 'reader review' is actually from a bona fide game writer), so I would like to have a stab at sourcing the article with them and a couple of small mentions. So in short: 1) could you take a look at the attribution aspect in terms of the article's history and do anything necessary 2) could you move it to Yume Nikki because it's apparently salted? Thanks! Someoneanother19:51, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Done. The article's now at Yume Nikki and a description of this mess is on its talk page. Feel free to take that stab, but it's better done sooner or later. Best wishes for your sourcing, Kizor19:16, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

My bad apparently. I'd proposed it on the guideline that they were the same game just different systems, which is what I'd gathered from news sources at the time. I've pulled the merge tag, sorry about that.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 20:02, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Lord of the Rings: Conquest
Thanks for the assessment. I was aware of the mass of duplicate references when I changed the article, but I was new to Wikipedia at that point and under the impression (and still am in some ways) that too many references is always preferable to too few and people can sort them out later. When I've got broadband of my own once more, I'll have a look at it again and try to add a development section (I never really got around to that and the link you gave me is blocked on this computer). Thanks again. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds10:00, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for assessing the Saw game article. I was wondering if the given the article's current quality, in addition to the expanded characters, plot, and reception sections after release, if this article would be worthy of at least a B class? GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 20:52, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Merry Christmas!
Hello! I hope you had a pleasant holiday! Anyway, I just noticed this comment. Please note that I have revised the article to include out of universe information on development and reception. Please reconsider. Thank you for your time and consideration and again, I hope your holiday went nicely! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk04:26, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Hello. I noticed that you're working with lots of video game titles. Looks really good. Just a note when you add one of the titles to a disambiguation page... Just make sure that if the item is a redlink there is a (blue) link in the entry that a person could click on that mentions the item.
In other words, we don't want to put items on disambiguation pages that don't have something to click on that provides further information.
Sorry if this is confusing. I'm still on my first cup of coffee. Well you can see what I did on the Pandora (disambiguation) page. I changed the link from Commodore 64 to List of Commodore 64 games (N–Z) because there wasn't any further information about Pandora on Commodore 64.
Thank you for helping expand Claire Redfield, we should be able to save her if we can clean it up and add more info and sources, Thank you--Smalln (talk) 19:51, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
As with the Paper Mario characters my primary concern is information just being lost altogether or when new sources are available, forcing editors to start over from scratch. Thus, in such cases as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blade (Masters of the Universe) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Icer, might you please reconsider and join me in compromising, i.e. at least supporting a redirect to List of Masters of the Universe characters? Trying to find sources for the former is a challenge, because "blade" keeps getting sword hits, but for the latter at least, he did apparently get a toy in addition to appearing on the show and so I do think we could salvage something. For example, if we can find a source to verify the following, it would be worth including in the character list: "Voiced by John Erwin in a cold, monotonous voice, which makes for an interesting contrast with his surprisingly witty and often humorous dialogue." "Icer is notable as being one of the few warriors in the series to have been created by the writers of Filmation rather than based on one of Mattel's action figures upon which the show is based." Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk01:50, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
It's not quite that clean-cut for me, for minor characters at least. Any major character or even a recurring character with genuine roles is worth redirecting, in principle, because someone else could come along with sources nobody else has access to or new sources of information may appear (as time goes on we seem to be getting more and more quality sites like allgame and magazines like Retrogamer). With minor characters there's the question of whether they would actually belong in a character list at all, let alone whether we could source them or not. With Blade he could be redirected to Masters of the Universe (film), since film articles have fairly extensive actor credits when they're fully developed. The problem with Icer is that he is a geninely minor one-shot character, put together by filmation for a single episode. If reliable episode guides were available his role could be covered in the synopsis of that particular episode within a list, rather than a character list, which wouldn't require the Icer article. I will change my !vote on blade accordingly. Someoneanother02:17, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
