I did expect that my recent edit to pseudoprime would be rejected. 'Abuse of language' does seem a proper piece of information for the article reader who wants to follow the subject in the literature without difficulty. Don't you think some mention, perhaps using your words rather than mine (on authors using 'pseudoprime' where 'probable prime' is better), is a reasonable thing to put in the lead to the pseudoprime article?Julzes (talk) 17:55, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia has a neutral point of view policy. We shouldn't say some sources "abuse" language and others use correct language. Lots of terms are used differently by different reliable sources. My edit did put this in the lead: "Some sources use the term pseudoprime about all probable primes, both composite numbers and actual primes." That seems sufficient to me. Further to this reply, I have wondered for while why the "click here to resubmit" functionality isn't coded into all the AFC declined templates. Don't you think it should be? Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 21:54, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

I think it should at least be in the latest decline. If it is then the older are not needed, but all of them would be better than the current practice where it's only in the oldest. I don't work at AFC but I have seen several posts from people who had problems resubmitting more than once. It may be a factor when the latest decline does not have the link. The link is removed by the small=yes parameter to {{AFC submission}}. This parameter is normally used when a second or later submission is declined as in [1]. It's probably strange to many users that they have to click a resubmit link in an old box when they have already resubmitted since then and been declined in a newer box. I have a question and thought that you might have an answer for this one. We, Teahouse hosts, are currently working on an edit notice and are trying to randomize the colors in a text. Right now, we are using this to randomize the text: {{#switch: {{#expr:{{NUMBEROFEDITS:R}} mod 6}}. A user has said that this one works based on the number of edits by the reader. {{NUMBEROFEDITS:R}} is the total number of edits to the English Wikipedia. Edits by a user cannot be retrieved in wikitext. Any of NUMBEROFEDITS, time and {{rand}} will do fine. {{rand}} uses time and {{NUMBEROFARTICLES:R}}. You can just use {{rand}} instead of reinventing the wheel. I noticed your long conversation with the "owner" of the Help:Searching page. I'm trying to improve the article Intro. and organization (WP search and Google search info. was all jumbled together), and have run into what appears to be ownership issues. The "owner" has even proposed forking or moving the page, apparently so that he can retain total ownership. I have listed it at WP:3O, but would appreciate other eyes. I am trying to add a UK DVD release to the list of Little Einsteins DVD releases on the aforementioned page. I follow everything in regards to editing and hoping to include this the way that the DVD list is formatted in boxes, but every time I try to do this, it isn't coming out right. Before I click "Save Page", I click on "Show Preview" first to see how it will come out, but it isn't coming out in it's own box like all the other DVD releases are out as.

I am trying again to add another DVD release to the Little Einsteins article, but I am a having a hard time like the last time I tried. I am trying to follow everything as directed by another Wikopedia editor, but so far, nothing has been showing up and also, I had to undo my last editing attempts as they removed the bottom portion of the Little Einsteins article in regards to external links and the sections on Playhouse Disney and Disney Junior. Hello Prime.

I noticed that you reverted my removal of a category from 2013 World Allround Speed Skating Championships, namely Category:2013 in Norwegian sport.

These categories – YYYY in Fooan sport – are ambiguous, to say the least. To me, they represent what events have occurred that involved Fooan (only) athletes and teams during a specific year, which is not necessarily the same thing as sporting events that are/were arranged in Foo that specific year.

In this case, I would think that the 2012–13 and 2013–14 GET-ligaen seasons would fit into the category (or a sub-category), as would for instance the women's football team's participation in the UEFA Women's Euro 2013, specifically the subpages covering the group play for Group B, the knockout stage, and the Final (although they would probably be placed in "2012–13 in Norwegian football" and "2013–14 in Norwegian football", which would then be subcategories of "2013 in Norwegian sport").

The "World Allround Speed Skating Championships" page should in my view not be placed in it, as it is not "Norwegian sport", it's international.

I think the motivation in your edit summary is weak: a category is not defined by which pages are placed in it; it's the other way around. You define a category with a suitable and unambiguous name, and then you place articles in it.

Where do you suggest that this is best discussed?

When I said "We categorize sports events by year+location", I didn't refer to that specific category. That's how we do it everywhere as far as I know. The link to Category:2013 in Norwegian sport was only a demonstration. Here are three randomly chosen year+country combinations: Category:2012 in Belgian sport, Category:2009 in Brazilian sport, Category:2006 in Chinese sport. It's exactly the same. If you want to change this then it might affect thousands of categories. I suppose it could be discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sports. I would oppose a change. It's almost impossible to keep track of such pages and, in many cases, we find blatant copyright violations that remain unnoticed for a long time. I don't know what you mean. Only logged in users can have gadgets so the code in hi:मीडियाविकि:Gadget-mySandbox.js is never run for IPs. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:54, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it does. Open [2] without unified login, on the right side of the screen you'd find "मेरा प्रयोगपृष्ठ" (My Sandbox). One solution is to use 'user.getName()' function but for IPs we want to provide WP:SAND link. — Bill william compton^Talk 01:55, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Oh, right. It was enabled by default for everyone including IPs in [3] where I guess you copied |default|rights=createpage from the English Wikipedia. IPs don't have the createpage right at the English Wikipedia but they do at the Hindi Wikipedia so you need another right to omit IPs. See [4] and pick a right held by Users (last group) but not by all (first group), for example sendemail. Then replace |rights=createpage with |rights=sendemail at hi:MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition. OK. I don't know much JavaScript but you can try starting with the below and adapt it to the Hindi Wikipedia. The only change I made in the else-part is "Wikipedia:Sandbox" instead of "Special:MyPage/प्रयोगपृष्ठ". You want a Hindi name and probably also to change some of the other parameters but I don't know Hindi and don't know which pages are available for preload and editintro. I did a minor screw-up, which I think is easily fixed, but I'm blanking on how.

I don't know how much you've been following Bitcoin and Primecoin, but for our purposes what you need to know is that the "advantage" of Primecoin over Bitcoin is that, if successful, it will lead to huge amounts of resources spent on finding increasingly difficult Cunningham chains (those funds would otherwise be "wasted").

Would you say that the research that will thus be encouraged will be of significant scientific value?

I would have, if that page ever got any use. Proposals there tend to look very pretty for a very long time because they're not messed up by things like participation. Yes we could try and force it with notifications, but I think this page is appropriate enough. I first considered the gadget proposal page, then actually started the proposal at VP Proposals, and then moved it to VPT when I realized it had gotten a little more technical in its rationale than I felt was appropriate for the proposals page. I feel it will speak more to the technically minded people who frequent VPT. I hope that makes at least a little sense. I will post a notification to the gadget page. As explained at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#Rename an article to one of its redirects I reverted an illegal cut-and-paste move and then performed a correct move. The correct move deleted the target history but I saw you made two edits. nowiki is not required around isolated '<' and '>' signs, and it clutters up the edit box. The problem in [7] and [8] appears to be that you wrote your post above the == ... == heading on the first line of the edit box. That makes your post a part of the preceding section. I can understand your BracketBot confusion. It wrote "may have broken the syntax". In your case it didn't break the syntax. Bots are poor at understanding text and it could not see that those '<' were meaningful mathematical less-than signs and not syntax errors. A syntax error like <ref with no ending > can destroy the whole remaining part of the page, so the BracketBot coder may have thought better give too many than too few warnings. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Mathematics#Less-than sign suggests to use < but it's rarely necessary to do anything. Wikipedia has hundreds of "important" (depending on what you do) help pages, policies, guidelines and so on. We cannot predict who might make cut-and-paste moves and should see a page about it. I see you uncovered a bug in the Undelete function of course pages, and they may have fixed that, but the course page is still gone. WE NEED IT! This is the end of my semester and I have 97 students' hard work to grade. If I am mistaken, please forgive me and point me to the course, because I can't find it. To my perspective, this also revealed a "bug" in that it was so easy to delete a course page by accident without getting lots of warnings like "Are you sure you want to delete this page? Can you recap for me where you found a link labeled "remove" that deleted the course, and what steps you took leading up to it? I'd like to get a clearer picture of what we need to change to avoid similar accidents and make deletion behave the way people expect (even though the accident should have been totally reversible anyway). All of the ways of deleting a course that I can think of are labeled "Delete", while there are "remove from course" buttons (if you're an admin or have course-related user rights) next to individual usernames on a course page that remove students from the course without deleting the course itself. There is also a Disenroll option in the tab dropdown (right below the Delete button, if you have a standard configuration), which is the primary one for removing oneself as a student. Pressing the Delete button (either from a course page, or from Special:Courses) should bring you to an intermediate page or popup prompting you for the deletion summary and warning that "You are about to delete course Foo. This will remove all associated students!" (The warning should probably be styled more boldly, so that it's a little more clear that it's actually warning the user about something.)--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 14:57, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi. You are one of the editors involved in the Premier league table template at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 121#Displaying a part of the table. The work is very close to the end and the template now loks like the one currently used at 2013–14 Premier League. I just wanted to see if you could take a look at what I did last night at Template:2013–14 Premier League table/sandbox so that the code looks okay. What I did was that previously there was "Qualified for champions league" on three rows (1,2 and 3) and the same for relegation, so now i wanted it to span over all these rows (as in 2013–14 Premier League) using the rows-parameter in the template used inside our template.

My idea was that when teams 1,2,3 are shown (for the first 3 teams in table) there should be a span over three rows and when the table should show teams 2-6 (for team on pos4) i wanted it to be a span over 2 rows. Hard to explain in writing. I used switches and ifeq for that. The result can be seen at User:Spudgfsh/sandbox. Please take a look at it and comment on the result. Then it is only to decide if we should highlight the team or not and then we should use it. Discussion about that on Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Highlighting or bolding.

Regarding diff: At the time I added the infobox, that was the earliest year of a publication discussing Mersenne primes I found, though I did not verify it had been the earliest. The table at the page titled Epitome Lib. I   I exactly lists the first five Mersenne primes, which means Regius identified the Mersenne primes before Mersenne himself (Mersenne's Cogitata Physica-Mathematica is from 1644 according to the entry at The Prime Glossary).
