I suppose since we are using all this server space on yucks, we should correspond on something productive: which tools, if any, do use use for disambiguation? I'm still doing it the slow way, and while a nice stress reliever, its an eye-killer when I get to a long page, or a bizarrely obsessive list. Any tips, Hall-of-Famer? For all my love of scripting in my day job, I don't use much in the way of tools here. Part of it is that I do a lot of editing on machines where I can't (or at least shouldn't) install third-party software. It's also, as you put it, more of a stress reliever to do things manually.

One thing I have recently made use of is the Clippings extension for Firefox. It holds commonly-used phrases which can be quickly pasted into articles or edit summaries. So if I'm disambiguating something, I'll add the pipe-links to the most common articles to my Clippings list. Then I remove them when I'm done. Before finding it I was keeping a document open in Notepad++ and going back and forth to copy and paste. This is much easier. Nick Number (talk) 17:35, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. We're having a content dispute at the article above - the list of empires has a large 216 entries, and currently the article sees fit to repeat this list 6 times! Clearly a waste of storage and bandwidth. A better solution (saving at least 30% and making it much easier to read and use) would be a table with a column for each attribute, sortable, as used in many other articles (see the discussion). However, a silent editor keeps reverting attempts to clean up the article, without explanation. Please see the discussion (currently nobody disagrees). Thanks for your "periodic pogroms" against bad spelling, as described on your user page. Since you do proper nouns (e.g., "Mitterrand", have you ever considered a campaign to correct this common typo:

Ghandi > Gandhi

? I just corrected one (DIFF). WP is better than many places on the internet (and in print), but I see it still has a few cases. I suspect periodic campaigns, if not already done, could be beneficial. The trick would be to separate the mis-spellings of the Mahatma's name from possible genuine uses for other things (perhaps in Persian??). That sounds like a worthy cause. I will take a look at those articles, but it's a lot of material and will take a while. Also, my Portuguese consists of about ten words (mostly pertaining to Jiu-Jitsu), so clarifications may be difficult. You're welcome. I hope you enjoy your trip to the U.S., and that the customs agents aren't too mean. Manhattan is a unique experience. There is a feeling of electricity in the air, as you can sense there are things constantly happening. I don't know how it compares with other huge cities like Rio and São Paulo. I'd like to visit Brazil someday, but so far I've only made it to Canada, Mexico, and the UK.

I just copyedited Changing legal gender assignment in Brazil. I changed the wording of the Nancy Andrighi quotation. Please check it to verify that it is still an accurate translation. Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

Noting your series of disambiguations, please note that " [[Salishan languages|Salish]] language" should simply be [[Salishan languages|Salishan language]]. "Salish language family" sounds awkward and is not the correct usage. Also please note on some pages you have dabbed to Coast Salish peoples when it's an Interior Salish group that's the context. I don't have time to go through all your edits to fix these, but please use discernment and also, as noted, that "Salish" is usually in that form a reference to the peoples, "Salishan" to the languages.Skookum1 (talk) 05:25, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

The first point would be better directed toward the articles' previous editors, as I was concentrating on repairing links. I tend to leave changes in wording to those with more knowledge of the subject. As for the Coast/Interior issue, there doesn't appear to be an article for Interior Salish peoples. There is one for Interior Salish languages, but it didn't seem appropriate to link to that when referring to peoples. Would you recommend redlinking to Interior Salish peoples in these cases? Really needs an article, if only a stub; Interior Salish redirects to Interior Salish languages. There is an Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Plateau article but it includes Sahaptian and Ktunaxa etc. But for now link to the language article when the context is either Interior or as in the lede of the FN in BC article refers to both; it's totally inappropriate to redirect the dual context, or an Interior context, to the Coast.Skookum1 (talk) 17:08, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Ok, for the meantime I've created a redirect at Interior Salish peoples which points to Interior Salish languages#Peoples speaking an Interior Salish language. This can readily be changed to its own article in the future. I've revisited all of my Salish disambiguations and re-pointed ones which were clearly Interior. Ones which weren't clear from context I re-pointed to Salish people. This currently redirects to Coast Salish peoples, but the links won't have to be re-pointed if it is ever turned into an overarching article.
