Hello, I see on your user page that you use JSTOR and I'd like to know more about your experience. By my calculations, a good 70 % of the main JSTOR content is now available for everyone at Internet Archive Scholar, with full text search provided e.g. at https://scholar.archive.org/ . The service is still in beta, but I've used it for some source-finding and it seems quite usable to me; I wonder whether that's just my experience. If you have a chance, the next time you'd be looking for a source on Google Scholar or JSTOR or similar, to perform the same search on IA scholar instead, I'd be curious to hear how it ends up. I can see that the dates should be in the US format, but I don't see why you have changed the parameter name "work" to its alias "newspaper" in the instances of {{cite news}}. What justification is there for those changes? Thanks. PamD 06:30, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

@PamD: The works in question are newspapers, so the parameter is more precise and equally accurate. There was a while (two years ago?) when some of the Cite templates would throw an error if "work" was used. That change was reversed, but my thinking was to preempt any problems in case the pendulum of consensus were to swing back on that point in the future. Hello! I appreciate the massive amount of time you must have spent trying to make improvements to this article (that I entirely researched and wrote). I guess the links to newspapers.com enable all people to read the article without having to have a subscription, which is good. I just have one concern - the several links that I checked only seem to have a link to the first page of the article, unless I just don't know how to access the second page. Most articles indeed have a second page somewhere further back in the paper and often a lot of the info in the wikipedia article may be from there, not the first page. Also, I had listed the newspaper as the author because that way people can very easily see which newspapers are sourced at the start of the reference as some people give precedence to certain papers. Lastly, the reason I had the refrerence numbers out of order is because sometimes the info in the first part of the sentence was from a higher numbered reference but I wanted to imply it matched with the first part of the sentence. I preferred to have academic-length sentences for the most part as opposed to short ones with only once piece of info and just one reference. I'd appreciate hearing back about the second page of an article issue. On the others, I guess the way you have ordered things is the way it will stay as I am not a huge detail person like you are.Eastern Cougar (talk) 01:35, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

@Eastern Cougar: Hello, and thank you for creating a detailed and thoroughly referenced article. Regarding your question, I believe I included clippings for all of the pages. Okay. I just wonder how many people will not know that they can hit the second number especially since not that many newspapers get referenced nowadays. @Eastern Cougar: I had an informal conversation with some other experienced editors on the Discord server a while ago, and this was generally agreed to be the best way to format these kinds of citations (in the absence of a native mechanism to bundle multi-page clippings on Newspapers.com or NewspaperArchive). For more perspectives and a broader consensus, you might want to start a discussion at Help talk:Citation Style 1. Changes agreed to there could be incorporated into the existing Cite templates. Someone else rewrote the citations in the same style as you but did not did cut out the clippings like you had done. Its just too much work/detail for me to get into. Hey. Long time!! I am travelling in South America. This morning, on day 6 of my trip, I tested positive. I may be locked in a hotel room for a few days. Last night I was at a show where "Cielito Lindo" was played. I did not know the name of the song, but I figured the Ay yi yi yi song might get me somewhere. I ended up at "Limerick (song)". I am quite sure I have gone too far in hatnoting a remedy. I'd be inclined to use "Ay ay ay ay", since "ay" is nominally a word. But they're all similar enough that I don't think it matters too much. The introductory line can contain the most common spellings, but doesn't need to be exhaustive. Nick Number (talk) 14:28, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

Since you seem to understand the technical side of WP, far, far better than I do, can you help me with a link from Ebsco host? Please understand I am probably incapable of explaining this sufficiently, but I will try. If you go to the WP library and look up "A Nursing Legend: Admiral Josephine T. Waconda, BSN, CFNP Assistant Surgeon General February 1935-January 2013" in the search bar at the top, the first result is to the article I need "A Nursing Legend" by Fran A'Hern Smith. However, the link https://wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/login?auth=production&url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=ccm&AN=86176810&site=eds-live&scope=site has a proxy address and I cannot figure out a work around. The accession number, 86176810, if put into the template {{Ebsco}}, takes you to this page, showing it isn't found. How the heck do I use a link in a citation in my draft to get to the article? I'm not really familiar with Ebsco, but for me, {{EBSCOhost|86176810|dbcode=ccm}} yields http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=ccm&AN=86176810. It was mostly through looking at the link you provided to Template:Ebsco and figuring that "db=ccm" in the URL was equivalent to the dbcode parameter. This is just a note of appreciation for the tips -- and especially the javascript bookmark -- that you posted on March 7, 2023, in Wikipedia talk:Newspapers.com#issue converting clipping to citation.

After my subscription to Newspapers.com expired in December 2023, I found a link to that section that I had saved in my files, created the bookmark, and followed the steps you listed. I was amazed at how smooth that made the transition from having my own subscription to using the Wikipedia Library for access and creating clippings. Now I use your bookmark daily on my desktop computer, laptop computer, or both.

Yes, they are very useful. Old newspapers have helped me to strengthen existing articles about old-time radio and to create new articles about programs. I have also expanded my efforts into older TV, both creating new articles and finding additional content for existing articles in back issues of newspapers. Cheers! Which would you say should be put in the dab lede now - saint, singer, both, neither? Having taken a closer look at the saint's article in the meantime, I no longer feel at all embarassed about my unfamiliarity with her. It's barely beyond the stub stage, says that her cult is restricted to the commune named for her, whose article is an actual stub, and the incoming links amount to about a dozen entries in various lists for which she qualifies in one way or another. I get the feeling that her having been the primary all this time had more to do with lack of a surname, plus inertia, than anything else.

Presumably unlike the rest of the dabbed people, the singer is commonly referred to as simply "Solange". I think we can discount Solange (psychic), another stub article.

I vote both. The saint may not be widely known, but being remembered at all a millenium after her death is not nothing - none of the other supposedly notable Solanges have been dead for even a century. The reason why I added the statement that Prem means Premier League is because in the main disambiguation page, nowhere does it refer to the Premier League. This is an important thing to note, especially when used in the phrase "The Prem" or "Prem Table". Can you please revise my addition?

Hello. At the moment, that expression doesn't occur anywhere in the Premier League article. I'd recommend establishing it there first with a reference to at least one reliable source. @Jpolihronov: Hello. I got that from the Harvard Alumni Bulletin, Volume XXIV. I also used it as a citation in the article for his date and place of death. There is more information there which might be helpful, and Google Books probably has some other sources. I have access to Newspapers.com through the Wikipedia Library, and could look for articles on specific events if you want. I just added a Baltimore Sun article on his marriage. I am the person that has broken the ciphers of the Beale Papers and have recently been featured in a Popular Mechanics article and interview that shows my methods and the results of my research.
