ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:26, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Mdaniels5757,

I was surprised to see a Welcome message from you on this editor's User talk page on January 1st when they didn't even start editing until January 3rd. We generally do not welcome editors until they start making contributions on the project so please do not do so in the future. And, in this case, they were quickly blocked as a sockpuppet which is what prompted me to look into their user talk page and their edit history. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:28, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Liz. Hope you're well. This account was one I created per an ACC request, in accordance with the ACC guide. Accounts created for ACC requests are automatically welcomed by the tool -- it's not something I do manually. (For an example of another user creating an account with the ACC tool, see this account, which JJMC89 created).
Regarding the fact that the user is a sock, consistent with the guide and the NDA I signed, all I can say is that the proper procedure was followed. If you'd like to see the request itself, given that you are a CheckUser and arbitrator, I'm sure Stwalkerster would be happy to provide you the information. If you're interested, you're also welcome to sign up for a tool account, which once approved should give you access to view this and other requests. (And we always need CU help!) Best, — Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 23:08, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
Hello, Mdaniels5757,
Thanks for posting a note on my User talk page as I don't check my "pings". I also post a high number of Welcome notices so I receive a great number of pings, more than I can respond to. I didn't know about your work with ACC requests, that explains why you Welcomed the editor before they had even made 1 edit. I have no interest in pursuing this, I accept your explanation and thank you for your work creating accounts for editors who, for whatever reason, can't create an account themselves. I know we can always use more help with the ACC area.
And while I might now have "CU" now listed by my username or on my User page, using these tools requires instruction which I haven't received so consider me just a regular admin editor. I think diving into SPI investigations can take up all of ones time so I have no plan on making much use of the tools. It's just part of the package you receive when you become an arbitrator. But thank you for that link, I might take advantage of that and get signed up. Liz Read! Talk! 01:34, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time.
