Please stop

You have closed a series of place name deletions with redirects when what the township articles say is apparently not true. Why are you doing this? WP:AtD is not an obligation, nor is it a "get out of deletion free" trump card. Mangoe (talk) 19:58, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Mangoe: Hi there, it seemed like a sensible outcome to me, but since you disagree, I can vacate the recent set of closes and let another decide. For the record, I will note that the rationale what the township articles say is apparently not true did not appear in any of the last three Indiana AfDs, but if I saw it, I wouldn't have closed them. Those rationales are better placed in the AfD discussions themselves. All the best, Left guide (talk) 20:09, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You're too nice. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:13, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also for future reference, if you oppose a redirect, I'd suggest directly saying so in the nomination statement to avoid confusing other closers. Regards, Left guide (talk) 22:36, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mangoe, I just happened to notice this, and I agree with Left guide on if you oppose a redirect, I'd suggest directly saying so in the nomination statement - please do do this, it's very helpful! I usually take "redirect" to be "equivalent" to deletion, such that if there are four delete votes and then a redirect one, I'll still typically close as redirect unless there's some obvious reason why that is a bad idea. Sometimes I'm left trying to read between the lines of what participants are saying, attempting to figure out if they oppose redirection or simply don't care. An explicit "deletion is preferred to redirection for [reasons]" is a great help. -- asilvering (talk) 13:44, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started

This looks helpful. If any other relevant articles are found they should be added here.

Mihajlo Mitić (basketball) AfD

From Google Translate:

As reported by Meridian Sport, the coaching staff of the Serbian national basketball team, along with Svetislav Kari Pešić, will also include Mihajlo Mitić, another Pirot native, who has been on the coaching staff of Bayern Munich in recent years and who originated from KK Pirot, where he was the coach.

That sounds like a routine coverage.

@Clariniie: Ok, thanks for translating the source I found. Did you ever determine if the two that you identified are SIGCOV? Left guide (talk) 15:24, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Plus Online
Mihajlo Mitić, the young coach of the first team KK Pirot, after a successful season in the Second League, received great confidence, by choosing the Struic Staff of the cadet selection of Serbia. Young basketball players will take part in the European Championships in Lithuania.
Sportklub (around 182 words about him in independent POV)
[...] Coach Mihajlo Mitić has been building his career for many years at Bayern Munich (basketball) and is serves one of the assistants of chief coach Gordon Herbert now.
Mihajlo Mitić has been in Munich since 2018 when he received an invitation from Marko Pešić to come to Bayern Munich (basketball). He previously managed at all levels in Serbian basketball. He serves as head coach and assistant in the first and second leagues of Serbia. He has been in Munich for six years. "I was hiding out to the public and behind the bench", says Mihajlo.
[...] Mitić is 37 years old and has a future ahead of him. He says that he is not thinking about being the first-team coach.
Mitić is a rookie of a coach school in Serbia. He is a young expert and his time is yet to come, and he says that Serbian coach should not forget where he came from.
Blurb: Mihajlo Mitić was also with the national team of Serbia last summer. He spent several weeks with a team preparing for the Olympic tournament. [...]
Notes:
  1. The first source I found, Plus Online, only has one paragraph with an interview video.
  2. For Sportklub, I only translated the coverage of Mihajlo Mitić to avoid copyright text.

@Clariniie: Thank you again. Sportklub certainly looks like SIGCOV for this, but it's still only one source. I'm searching on Google and unfortunately having a hard time finding other coverage of similar depth. Left guide (talk) 15:43, 4 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Hong Kong women's national under-20 football team. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Hello, Left guide,

Could you double-check your closure here? Because it looks like you closed the discussion with a redirect to a redirect that leads back to the AFD discussion. I'm not sure how to fix this so I leave it in your hands. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:07, 8 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Good eye, thanks for catching this. I typically check that the target exists before closing as redirect and don't know what happened here. I think I'll simply revert my set of actions, and add a note to the AfD. Left guide (talk) 23:13, 8 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree with your decision

I respectfully disagree with the closure as a redirect. The subject clearly meets notability guidelines based on independent and significant coverage in reliable sources. To clarify: The Hans India has published an independent article with significant coverage. This source is considered reliable under WP:ICTFSOURCES. DNA India also provides independent and substantial coverage, and is similarly recognized as a reliable source under WP:ICTFSOURCES. NDTV features independent coverage that is both in-depth and directly about the subject, and is unquestionably reliable. In addition to these, the subject has been covered in several other notable publications, though I’ve not listed them here due to potential concerns about independence. Furthermore, the individual has been involved in multiple notable projects, and their contributions have received recognition, reinforcing their notability. Given these points, I believe redirecting the article was premature and not in line with Wikipedia’s notability standards. Please reconsider this decision.Angelmonaa (talk) 07:10, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Hello, Angelmonaa ,
Speaking as a fellow editor who gets a lot of questions on her talk page, you will likely get a faster response if you would include a link to the AFD discussion or, at least, the article you are concerned about. Because that seems like a very important fact that you never mention in your entire statement here. What AFD/article are you upset by? Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 08:13, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I am talking about this Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Avinaash V. Rai (2nd nomination). Angelmonaa (talk) 08:29, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Angelmonaa: Hello, my close of redirect was based on an assessment of the discussion's consensus which was clear in this case; all of the community members who participated were against retaining the article, and my job as closer is to simply follow the will of the community. If you wish to directly challenge and overturn the close, you may appeal at deletion review but please be aware that the community in that venue generally assesses the closer's judgment, and not the subject or its sources. An alternative option available is to work on a draft in draftspace for improvement, and then re-submit it using the WP:AFC process for an independent editor to review. Regards, Left guide (talk) 14:47, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, no I don’t think this should be redirected. I know I’m not very experienced here, but I think the subject is more notable now. The last discussion was in 2017 when he only had one project out, but now he has released more and there’s better coverage in reliable sources.
I feel like this should have been looked at more closely before closing.
Liz (Admin Mam), I’d really like to know your opinion on this if possible, and I’d really appreciate any help. Angelmonaa (talk) 13:41, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
