Your first editHi Kingturtle, I notice that it says in the old intro on your user page that your first edit was made in 2002. However, there is a known bug relating to page moves over redirects, where the page move is recorded with the wrong date; see the second-last paragraph of this section about moving pages over a redirect. Therefore, your actual first edit was probably this one. Graham87 03:47, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Kumioko (talk) 15:18, 19 March 2011 (UTC) Mega GeniusPlease see WP:REFUND#Mega Genius and User talk:Deadalus821. From the talk page, it is clear his relentless efforts to spam his company have worn out everyone's patience; but now (presumably after email contact with you) he has posted yet another draft at REFUND and seems to hope that we can develop it for him there. Without checking the history first (which was foolish), I wrote a reply saying he would have to register an account; I have now withdrawn that, but I am really not sure how we can proceed. The view of the blocking administrator and three reviewing administrators is that if he is only here to promote himself there is nothing to unblock him for, and in fact his talk page access has been revoked because the discussion was going nowhere. In those circumstances I do not think allowing him to develop his article via IPs at REFUND is a practical way forward; either he must be unblocked to have yet another try (and having read his talk page I would certainly not be willing to do that), or he will have to be told to get lost - in effect, banned. Advice, please? JohnCD (talk) 23:40, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
File:Alcott-L.jpg needs authorship information.Dear uploader:
The media file you uploaded as File:Alcott-L.jpg is missing information as to its authorship (and or source) , or if such information is provided it is confusing. Although images may not need author information in un-controversial cases, or where an applicable source is provided, such information aids those making use of the image, and helps verify the copyright status of an image. If possible, please consider updating the media information page to make the authorship (and or source) of this media clearer. If the media is your own work, please consider explicitly including your user name or using the {{own}} template on the media information page. If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. A requestHi Kingturtle, I'm writing to ask whether you would consider closing a contentious RfC (and monitoring it until then if needed) that is due to close on or around 4 November. It is here on whether to remove from the lead of Wikipedia:Verifiability that "the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth." The proposers want to remove "not truth" and some other words from the lead, and move them further down, to remove the emphasis. There has been some concern today because an admin who had commented on one side in the RfC (Sarek) tried to close it early, though notification had not been wide, and consensus was arguable. There is some discussion about it here on AN/I. We've therefore asked that it be held open for at least the full 30 days and closed by more than one uninvolved admin. Black Kite has volunteered. Would you be willing, as a crat, to join him in that effort? The reason I ask is that this is a key point of a core content policy, so I'd like to make sure the closure is as uninvolved and considered as possible, taking both numbers and comments into account. B-R.com bullpen as a WP:RSHello, I know you from various baseball pages, and since you're an admin maybe I can pick your brain for an opinion. This has been bothering me for sometime, but the bullpen has consistently been used as a source on many articles, including its own template. This disturbs me because the bullpen is an open wiki itself and contains user-generated content. I can't see how this can be used as a source, and doubt it should be even used as an external link (with few exceptions, of course). What is your opinion of the use of that wiki on this wiki? --(Dynamic IP, will change when I log off. The article has survived 2 AfDs, but both were pre-2008 and guidelines may have been different / the standards for inclusion may have been lower. My preliminary checks on Google scholar didn't confirm notability, but some of the comments at the AfD suggested his work is commonly used in US schools. Merger and redirect of 2013 London attack to 2013 Woolwich attackI wanted to let you know that I've redirected the 2013 London attack article you started to 2013 Woolwich attack which had become far more comprehensive as of the time I encountered both articles (ca. 03:00 GMT on 23 May 2013). I copied the link to the telegraph report [4] which was cited in your article to the Woolwich-titled article. However I didn't incorporate the 2013 London attack article's text into the Woolwich article as doing so seemed it would be somewhat redundant and I'm falling asleep and not really wanting to analyze what would and wouldn't be redundant, and I'm wary of adding information reported shortly after the event which might not turn out to be entirely accurate. In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. An important message about renaming usersDear Kingturtle, I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat. As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully. Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects. The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed. Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now. In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename. Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the SUL finalisation, read over the Help:Unified login page on Meta and leave a note on the talk page there, or on the talk page for global renamers. You can also contact me on my talk page on meta if you would like. I'm working as a bridge between Wikimedia Foundation Engineering and Product Development, Wikimedia Stewards, and you to assure that SUL finalisation goes as smoothly as possible; this is a community-driven process and I encourage you to work with the Stewards for our communities. Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) talk 18:24, 25 August 2014 (UTC) --This message was sent using MassMessage. Was there an error? Report it! Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Ebkassler.png![]() Thank you for uploading File:Ebkassler.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale. If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 18:48, 12 May 2015 (UTC) Workshopping bureaucrat activity requirements
There is an ongoing discussion about implementing some kind of standards for administrative and bureaucrat activity levels; and activity requirements for bureaucrats have been explored several times in the past. I've prepared a draft addition to Wikipedia:Bureaucrats that would require at least one bureaucratic action every five years to retain the bureaucrat permission. In the past, I've been hesitant of such proposals but I believe that if the bureaucrat group as a whole is seen to be actively engaged, the community may be more willing to grant additional tasks to the position. Please let me know your thoughts. I'm not sure if this actually applies to any of us, but if you have not acted as a bureaucrat in over five years, you might consider requesting removal of the permission or otherwise signalling that you intend to return to bureaucrat activity. –xenotalk 14:22, 30 June 2015 (UTC) FYI: bureaucrat discussion opened

This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy. Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas. In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right. It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. You are correct that there is a copyright notice in the photo itself! Well spotted! However, Wikimedia Commons archives quite a bit of copyrighted material, in fact anything that isn't PD is typically copyright. The thing of it is, that the photo in question, along with all the rest, is licensed under Creative Commons. That doesn't invalidate their copyrights, it just permits re-use. Every contribution you and I make to Wikipedia is copyrighted, but we've licensed it under Creative Commons to be re-used by the project according to those terms. This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:15, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community. Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised. We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered. Assistance on List of Christmas carols articleHello User:Kingturtle. I am writing to you, and to others, as I noticed you were one leading editors working on the List of Christmas Carols article in the past. The article has since gone into disrepair and I and others have been trying to bring it back to the status you had achieved, however, there is one particular editor who has continually reverted any edits made and who is currently serving out a block due to this type of behaviour on another article and who insists popular Christmas songs such as The Christmas Song, Silver Bells and others are Christmas Carols (you will get a better understanding by observing the talk page) in recent years. I would be grateful if you could collaborate and return the article to its pristine state that you and others had achieved in the past. Also, I would be grateful if you could give Christmas carol and Carol a look over too. I would like to see the articles achieve Wikipedia:Featured articles status in advance of the holiday. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:50, 31 December 2021 (UTC) How we will see unregistered usersHi! You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki. When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed. Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help. If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter. We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. A tag has been placed on Global Chess League requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.) that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Norton Juster at home in Massachusetts.jpg![]() Thank you for uploading File:Norton Juster at home in Massachusetts.jpg. If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Josh Milburn (talk) 19:28, 10 July 2025 (UTC) Redirect listed at Redirects for discussion
