There is an air of confidence about these figures but I don't know their source. I thought the longest platform claim needed careful qualification though and one of those delightful factoids became, for me, a little tarnished.
Thanks for that Mr O’Neill. SC page is look much healthier. Check the talk page, I've added some suggestions (which are pretty much just nitpicking and could well be wrong). --Fir0002www09:06, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi Jjron!
Have you got google earth handy? I think 37°15'48.66"S, 147°43'17.90"E is probably a better co-ordinate (I think, judgeing by flagstaff that that is the town center. Also do you think we should put something in about the flood? I've got some interesting pic comparisons:
Bairnsdale page is pretty impressive, well done! The flood pics ar scans off old "real" photos, the current ones are obviously 20D - btw what do you think of the HDR in that shot? I would personally trust Google more. Go to google earth and to the co-ords I sent above, and have a look - pretty sure it's the town centre. I think we dare :-) --Fir000212:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah St Mary's looks pretty impressive from the inside. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, and that is basically exposure bracketting, although I've been told you can do something like that by tone mapping RAW files - something I've never realy experimented with. Only problem there is Image:Old saint pauls 2.jpg - people might oppose on the grounds that there already is a similar FP.
The reason I was leaning towards Google is that it's likely (assuming someone cared) a person would use Google Earth to look at the co-ords and it should probably be accurate to that. And it also seems like maybe the Land vic rounded - which actually makes a considerable difference when viewing from Google Earth. Not sure if they did take into account relativity though! --Fir000210:08, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Omeo Co-ords are off. I've updated them. A mutual friend in Melbourne has anonymously added the info box thingy. I think it's OK --Fir000211:59, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Actually, have you seen the omeo thing? Maybe we should make the SC page like that - it gos to another wiki project which gives links to find that location in various maps. It does however require only degrees and minutes so it's not as accurate --Fir000212:06, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry to hear that the SC page doesn't work with the info box - looks good on mine but I agree that it's more likely for someone to be running on 1024x768. So feel free to remove it if you want. The co-ords on Omeo are the similar to Google Earth's, and the difference can be put down to rounding (although latitude is out by a minute). I'm not sure if you can put alternative text with the info box, so assuming we stick with the info box, I think the best we'll get is the rounded co-ords.
Mapwise I think 203.45.20.235 took the Melbourne infobox and copied it over to SC page. I'd almost get the map off Omeo, but it is that bad it isn't worth the bother. There might be something on the commons I could use.
I noticed your comment on Fir0002's user talk page and moved the page for you. Here is the new one: Ensay, Victoria. (and to answer your question, you don't need any special privelages to move a page) Viridae03:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, there is a better way, but rather than try to explain it myself, here is the help page: WP:MOVE. If you need any more help, feel free to drop me a note on my talk page. Viridae04:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the message. As soon as I hit 'enter' I realized that I had repeated the goof, but it was too late to stop the page. :-/ At least the article is right! - Baseball,Baby!balls•strikes21:30, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Narcissus
Yeah sure, go ahead. It's a shame about the bottom left hand corner - maybe a crop w/o the petal in the corner would look better? --Fir000211:05, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Tulip image
Do you happen to know the variety of tulip in your tulip image? I'm writing the caption for the Picture of the Day and I think that would be helpful. Thanks. howcheng {chat}16:58, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Nematode
Hi Jjron,
Sorry about all that, I got a little snappy too. Have no idea why, but these things happen :). I had assumed you had done biology at uni, as you can teach it at high school (at least I'd hoped). I just didn't like the comparison with the butterfly metamorphosis, they are too different to compare. Anyway, I will ask around, and see if anybody knows about this subject. Thanks for bringing it up, I doubt anyone would have noticed it. --liquidGhoul09:39, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Butter Factory
Hi jjron!
Butter factory is great. Where did you get the scan from? Might be worth getting some more histoic photos. --Fir000208:05, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh btw, have a look at Ensay article, I've added some pix of the Ensay sports. You may want to pull some off. --Fir000208:43, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Also I'm all for removing teh dodgy "map [of Melbourne]" with aerial shot. That'll free up some space. See what you think of the change --Fir000208:51, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah I guess ideally we'd want a map of SC. Re: Year/Year's I don't know a) which one it is and b) if it matters --Fir000209:34, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi jjron!
I added a pic of the chapel on the Island of Ensay - but I think there isn't enough text to support it. See what you reckon --Fir000211:41, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
A comment was recently posted by Samsara on the Siberian tiger FPC. It concerned placing the image in another article (see the subpage for the exact comment). I have now added the image to the stretching article, so you may or may not consider changing your vote (this is just to inform you of the change). Thanks. --Tewy00:56, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi John,
My name is Simone and I work for Taylor Cullity Lethlean Landscape Architects, we designed the Australian Garden in Cranbourne with Paul Thompson. We saw the images that you took of the Australian Garden on the wikipedia page and I was hoping we would be able to purchase these if you have them at a high resolution.
Ok I've put it instead of your pano - and I think it looks ok, contrasts well with the rest of the daylight shots. See what you think. --Fir000212:26, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah that looks good now. Cloud removed - no need to crop though! ;-) Do you think Image:View from macmillans lookout - benambra.jpg could fit in anywhere? Thought I might give it a go on en FPC since it's got through com FPC. Incidentally since people are concerned that we are running low on FP's, maybe it's time to have a shot at nominating one of the St Mary's shots? I've uploaded the pano I told you about but the mighty Panorama maker couldn't handle it! There are a couple of stitching faults which are unlikely to get past the scrutiny of FPC. Also it's a bit noisy because I didn't use HDR on the images I had to lift the shadows quite a bit. Anyway see what you think. --Fir000211:37, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Since you didn't see the change in the fish fins, you should check the calibration image on FPC: If you have a flatscreen or laptop, the shadow detail may be impossible to get "right"... --Janke | Talk08:05, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
OK, you may have similar problems that many others have, the wiki server seems to be a bit wonky right now. Try purging the cache and reloading the page (purge link on FPC page). --Janke | Talk08:19, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Ensay, Outer Hebrides
I've just expanded this slightly, but I don't understand the text that you added to the sketch of the chapel. I really can't comprehend the idea of 6th century convicts going on a boat trip. Did they even have convicts in 6th century Scotland? Could you possibly add some approximate date to the sketch?--JBellis20:15, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
