Hi. I noticed you edited the SPA article replacing "an SPA" with "a SPA". I agree its a bit weird convention, but basically for acronyms the a/an issue doesn't go by the actual letter itself, but rather as it sound. For example, S is pronounced "es" but P is pronounced "pee" so an acronym that starts with S will get an "an" and one that starts with P will get an "a". This was just in case you were interested as to why someone reverted your edit. I have made this mistake many times, you can learn more about the convention at English_articles#Indefinite_article. --MATThematical (talk) 16:07, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I saw you added code to the three project banners to pass their importance assessments to WikiProject Meteorology. By convention, WPMET leaves articles that belong to one of its subprojects as "None" or "N/A" to draw emphasis to articles that are not within the purview of one of the subprojects. By assessing importance to one of the categories in Category:Meteorology articles by importance, we lose that ability. As a result, I reverted those changes. Pls note that in redirecting storm damage to storm, you can't simply put it all under the section that you indicated, as it is not limited to such damage. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 21:06, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Where would you propose redirecting it to? All of the information in the original storm damage article is contained in that section. All of the information in storm damage was related to damage that affected human society. Inks.LWC (talk) 21:10, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

There was nothing wrong with the old one, I was just updating to a more recent (in fact current) warning. Such updates help keep up with current warning conventions (which change many years), and keep the warnings referring to events that people generally remember. An example would be when they updated the PDS tornado watch example to be the PDS watch from the 2011 Super Outbreak.  --Bowser the Storm Tracker  ^{Chat Me Up} 11:31, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

There's a site that does archive them, although it takes a few days for them to upload it. I've been using that for any of the pages I've been creating, and it was the site that was ref'ed originally. Hey, I noticed you tagged a few images with the hurricane template. I love how you took care of all of the season articles and whatnot. Why was this deleted as a redirect to gale warning? If it was made into a redirect, that should have been rv'd. I created that page as an actual page about wind advisories. No, I didn't save a copy because I wrote it all in one sitting. If I had a copy I would have restored it myself, given it was deleted as a redirect which is not even remotely close to what I wrote. It was like Storm warning in format, with a few refs and an example alert, as well as a general overview of wind advisories. What I would like is if you could request undeletion for it so I could get the content back. By the way, Wind Advisory (with that capitalization) has long redirected to Gale warning. I usurped the redirect to go to Wind advisory (my page, with that capitalization) before it was deleted, but someone Rv'd it back to Gale Warning. Is that possibly what caused the confusion? I requested speedy deletion because the redirect seemed unplausable to me. Clearly somebody else felt the redirect was more ideal than your page. Re TheNobleSith/Tropical Storm Nana (2008)

Normally, user space drafts are deleted using MfD. CSD applies in userspace for copyvios, but not this, AFAIK. Am I missing something?--SPhilbrickT 11:48, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps it was meant to be a subpage of the user, but if I remember correctly, the page hadn't been edited by the creator in a couple years, and the storm really doesn't need its own article, as I am confident it easily fails WP:GNG. As for subpages being disabled in the mainspace, I believe they are (otherwise AC/DC would be a subpage of AC). Inks.LWC (talk) 21:56, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

DCWS and TheWeatherSpace both issue weather alerts More exist, I'm just listing the 1st 2 off of the top of my head. WP:N is not an issue here because the wording of the article previously implied that ONLY government agencies issued weather warnings, which is, regardless of the notability of other individual agencies, erroneous.  --Bowser the Storm Tracker  ^{Chat Me Up} 00:22, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

They have to be notable to be conisdered ones that they issue. I don't see any flood alerts ever issued by TheWeatherSpace, and DCWS is your own project. Anybody can start a website and issue an alert. But they have to be notable. If I started a website called "The Defense Project" and started issuing DEFCON alerts, we shouldn't change the DEFCON article to reflect that the Air Force and The Defense Project issue DEFCON alerts. This is not a notability issue because as an encyclopedia we don't have a right to define what constitutes the issuance of an alert. Doing so would be a violation of WP:POV and WP:NOR. This is an issue of factual correctness, and to say that only government agencies issue weather alerts is just plain old incorrect. It doesn't matter who else does, the mere fact that anybody else does makes the statement that only government agencies do incorrect.

example:

statement - nobody eats pine needles.

fact - one person 5000 miles away on an obscure island eats pine needles.

truth - the statement is false because somebody eats pine needles.

The article doesn't say "only". Look at my example. If I start a website issuing DEFCON alerts, should we change the DEFCON page to not say that only the Air Force issues such alerts? Flood alerts are issued by government agencies. Until you can produce an example of a flood alert that issued by a non-government agency (and not your own weather agency), the article should not be changed. In the situation you mentioned, it should just say that DEFCONs are issued by those in national security, but not being specific. So, yes, as long as you were maintaining said DEFCON site, we should make sure that the DEFCON page does not say that only the Air Force uses DEFCON alerts. The wording is unnecessary. Hi Inks. Could you tell me the reason you nominated this [1] page for deletion. I added the page as I noticed that it appears to be quite an important group in the area of human rights, and it's cited by news sources (see [2] where it is quoted in the Straits Times for instance. I have nothing to do with this group, and know little about them other than what's on there web page, but they are cited by reliable news organizations, so I'm not sure why they should be deleted? I'm using the public advisories' conversions from mph to km/h, but I notice that you don't match the NHC advisories' units. Just asking, are you using the advisories' units for km / km/h or just converting the mph in the advisories to km/h? HurricaneFan25 11:48, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
