Hey so I thought at first when I got the intro message from Wikipedia that it was automated only to realize it was from a real user. So how does it work, is their a team of you guys sending the messages, is it automated somehow, how do you find new users, etc? Also I noticed that on my mentors talk page that they had the message but that it came much later after they made the account and had already made many edits and was worded to acknowledge that fact, so how did they get the message later, can you only reach so many people, did you guys only start doing this recently? (WP:Talk page stalker) Hey @Wik206! I'm not exactly sure how HiLo does it, but I use WP:Twinkle. When viewing the edits of someone who hasn't been welcomed, then there will be a [Welcome] button to press. Once you do, you will be redirected to their page where you can select a welcome message, such as the cookie one! You could also do it directly from their drop down menu on their talk page. I don’t know if I’m in trouble, but a user seems to be upset at me because I added a category to a blp and they believe that I’m doing it out of an emotional reason.

The article in question is Nick Fuentes. I added the category of “neo-Nazis”, and I was reprimanded by a user. I attempted to explain myself by stating that Fuentes’s statements, actions, and group associations justify him being in the category.

When I made a discussion on the talk page of the article, it was removed. Firekong1 (talk) 19:20, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

Firekong1 - Wow. Mr Acroterion is certainly determined to keep that category off Fuentes' page. I really can't see why. Given the other categories he is already listed as part of, "neo-Nazi" is hardly a significant addition. Personally, I would withdraw from the fight for the moment, for two reasons. One is what I have just written. It makes little difference to Fuentes' image whether he is labelled with that category or not. The other is the aggression coming at you from that other editor. I can't explain it. It doesn't seem rational. But it's also not likely to go away any time soon. Give it a few months. See how the article evolves. See what other editors do. I also had some trouble with another editor named bhagyamani because I was adding common names to pages of animals such as the bush elephant and the european marten, and I even had some sources where these common names were used. Yet, they removed it and refused to listen to what I had to say. I still think the common names should be on those pages and I'll add them there someday when the time is right. I appreciate from your user page that you have strong views on civility, Americans, abusive administrators, and any number of related topics, so please accept this advice in the spirit in which it was given by a non-parochial American administrator who hasn't been unfrocked yet. Calling the nominator a "parochial American" did nothing to improve the discussion and simply made you a target. Mackensen: Some thoughts.... Sports supporters (and haters) can be very irrational. They can talk about sports they know nothing about, or don't like, in the most irrational ways. On many occasions I have defended the all-American sport of baseball against the idiotic criticisms of British fans who insist it's nothing more than their children's game of rounders. I am a rare animal, an Australian who knows a lot about both baseball and cricket. (I like most sports, but will admit to not understanding American football yet.) I also know who the American commentator Bill Reilly is, and why he is important. Only a few days ago a proposal to declare the insect called a cricket to be more import than the sport of the same name was defeated. It seemed quite apparent to me that the proposer and handful of supporters of the proposal were Americans (and one Canadian) who knew close to nothing about the sport. What was worse, and what also happened in the thread that drew you here, was a seeming refusal among some to learn more about the sport even DURING the discussion. The issue under discussion in the thread that brought you here has, as was explained several times there, been done to death several times before. Having that fact pointed out seemed to make little difference at all to the attitudes of some of the supporter. I saw an example of the modern trend of people believing their opinion is important, even on matters they know very little about. I saw, in an informed way, both sides of a discussion, one on which those who knew almost nothing about the other side had fixed opinions. Funnily enough, I get rather sick of that sort of bullshit. Per the discussion at ANI, The community authorizes an indefinite civility restriction for you. If you make any edits which are judged by an administrator to be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith, then you may be blocked for a short time up to one week, and up to an indefinite duration for repeat offenses. Blocks resulting from this restriction can only be appealed to the blocking administrator or the community, where community consensus takes precedence. The civility restriction can be appealed to the community after one year since the restriction was imposed or the last enforcement action (whichever is later), and each year thereafter. It was pretty much the only one that I felt had a tone of discussion, rather than people telling me how they felt about me. But it was late at night, and I needed my sleep. Hi HiLo48, You reverted my edit expressing the opinion that it was “not needed”. The article, as you have reverted it, states Bryant “is a convicted Australian mass shooter” but (beside the expression referring to being “a convicted Australian”) there has never been any such offence of “mass shooter” and the statement is therefore nonsense. Bryant is an Australian who was convicted of a mass of murders for an incident of mass murder. Further, “mass shooter” linked to an article on mass shootings rather than mass shooter and that article made it very apparent that even that term is undefined and much of that article is about the lack of agreed definition and varied usage. Hi, You reverted my edit in which I changed accommodations to accommodation. I now realise that the use of accommodations wasn't a typo, but it is the wrong word.

Accommodations means temporary lodgings, usually hotels or board and lodging – or it can mean accommodation in the plural. Neither applies in this case, in which Otto Frank was looking for one apartment. For this, the word accommodation is the correct one. MarcuH (talk) 11:55, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

SueoftheAntipodes - The message "page does not exist" simply means that nothing has been written on that page yet. You can easily fix that by writing something there yourself. Typically people start off by writing a sentence or two about the areas they plan to be editing in. Just click on the red link, and go for your life. As for why nobody else has responded to your Kyrgios comments, that's just a result of the fact that we ARE all volunteers. There are no major tennis tournaments on right now, so interest is low, just as in the major media. Sometimes you have to wait a while for more responses. HiLo48 (talk) 03:32, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I have just received a message telling me that I will be blocked next time I write something about Nick Kyrgios because they can't believe I am not involved. Pity. He has been making some very interesting podcasts in USA for the last four weeks about mental health so I have been putting these in his 'film and tv' page. I had collected material for the racism section (which includes ethnic and other reasons for being discriminated against) but I guess they won't like that either. So It's probably goodbye. Maybe someone else can update the Kyrgios page. It's strange that nobody else seems to want to bother but when I did they get really upset? Hillo HiLo48! I saw you created an article on Ben (Armenian letter). There you dated it "since 405/406". However, as to my knowledge, official/best-of-human-knowledge/commonly agreed date is that all original 36 letters of Mesropian alphabet were "created" in 405. => Why put "/406"? Is there some scientific puzzle or uncertainty? If not, I will correct it.

Hi HiLo48, trucks should change to cleaner fuels like electric or hydrogen, and smaller clean trucks are indeed catching on. But road trains seem to be the exception so far, with very few clean ones being used. So for the time being, road trains are almost exclusively diesel. That fact is notable, and should be included in an encyclopedia. Failing to do so merely hides the pollution. National fuel usage could be included to show scale.

It seems the Townsville hydrogen road train is not yet operating

I tried to link to WP:Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not wp;wia.

Had this guy Roger 8 Roger reverting a few of my edits to do with Māori recently, and I stumbled upon your conversation with him. "Artificial use" of Māori instead of the "normal" English by "officially controlled bodies". "Academic or youth elite" using Māori "is seen as somehow right and proper". We call them closet ACT supporters (translation - Pauline Hanson's One Nation or perhaps Clive Palmer's racket). His latest is an attempt to go to war against something I added to the page about the Colony of New Zealand. I added a paragraph referring to the very well established historical consensus that there was a transition of nominative sovereignty to substantive sovereignty (the British declaring they controlled New Zealand in 1841 when they didn't versus 40-60 years later, when the Crown was secure), as well as the argument that Māori did not mean to cede their sovereignty (which has been found repetitively by the Waitangi Tribunal). He reverted this, presumably because he views British law as the only law which means anything and terra nullius as legitimate. In his mind, this means that the New Zealand colony existed with absolute legitimacy immediately after it was proclaimed by a handful of colonial figures, despite Aotearoa then having an almost entirely Māori population, in which they owned all the land and controlled the economy.

Roger's only comment was "no improvement - go to talk", which I did. Surprise, surprise, he ignores it. So these people win by default. Dhantegge (talk) 00:41, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

Characterising media and major commentators in boxing saying that a judging result is unacceptable as "fans being upset" is so close to lying on both fronts of who (significant people) and what (criticising judges, not merely being upset), that it looks like a POV edit because you DONTLIKEIT. To insist on only this one thing, when there are many actual examples of fans just being upset (the opening ceremony 'controversy' for one) there, further makes it seem like you have something against a specific inclusion. I respectfully disagree with removing the specific brand mentions from the Toilet paper article. While it's true that some brands may be more prevalent in certain regions, the inclusion of these particular brands is justified for the following reasons:

Global Presence: Brands such as Charmin are not confined to one country. They are widely available in North America, including Canada and Mexico. This broad distribution demonstrates their significance in the global market. Both Charmin and Cottonelle toilet paper are widely available in Canada and Mexico. You can find them in both countries' major grocery stores and retail outlets.

Cultural Significance: Some of these brands, like Cottonelle, have achieved a level of cultural recognition, as evidenced by their dedicated Wikipedia article. This indicates a notable impact on popular culture and consumer behavior.

Informative Value: Including specific brands provides readers with concrete examples and can enhance their understanding of the product category. It allows for more detailed comparisons and discussions, particularly when analyzing marketing strategies, packaging design, or consumer preferences.

We risk losing valuable information and context by removing these specific brand mentions. I propose we reinstate the original content, ensuring it remains neutral and avoids undue promotion. If concerns about specificity persist, we could consider a more general approach, such as categorizing brands by region or market share. However, I believe that the current inclusion of specific brands is appropriate and beneficial to the article.

Additionally, I would like to point out that it would have been more productive for the editor to raise their concerns on the article's talk page rather than resorting to a full revert. The image you restored at Anti-Christian Sentiment is an atheist graffiti encouraging christians to deconvert. Criticizing a religion and encouraging people to leave it, especially if said religion isn't a protected minority, is free speech.
