@Steelkamp: thanks! Just figured why not since I have some spare time. I was about to do the disused regional stations in Victoria in alphabetical order (Category:Disused railway stations in Victoria (state)), but I've already stopped at the first one AGM Siding lol! then I think we still need to do the vast majority of open passenger stations (i.e. V/Line and Metro) in Victoria, maybe we can split doing it line by line? Maybe we could split the disused list by letter groups like say A-F and so on for each of us or whatever suits? I also have no idea if NSW disused stations is done, same for Queensland. I've gotten WA open stations done. I have also got every station in Australia that has opened since 1909 done. I was going through Category:Railway stations in Australia by year of opening backwards and got up until 1909. Steelkamp (talk) 09:19, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

@Steelkamp: Oh I see, I was wondering how come it seemed a bit random to me that some had the tag but most didn't. By the way, I don't think the vast majority of the links on Template:MelbourneTramNavbox are done, so I might do that now and leave the stations for some time later. No need to micromanage anything really, just beware some of the oz main cats dont even have oz mentioned :) - and I am not sure where some of the oddities come from, it takes too long to work out the diffs compared to fixing... some runs of the categories show irregular bits and pieces. @Steelkamp: Hm seems fine to me, maybe though except the lead might be a little too long? I think it should be as concise/brief as possible to make sure readers know the difference between train and metro, but most of that info, I think belongs at Sydney Metro to avoid content overlap. Also, in the future, info might be updated at the main article but the list might be forgotten, leaving it with outdated info that might not be picked up for a while.

Oh and I think there's a bit of MOS:DUPLINK throughout the tables. But other than that, seems alright! Fork99 (talk) 05:06, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback. Generally the leads for featured lists are quite long. See List of Bay Area Rapid Transit stations or List of Copenhagen Metro stations or List of London Underground stations.

Regarding duplicate links, tables are generally exceptions to that rule as tables can be reordered.

Another question relating to the Sydney Metro list. Do you know of a source which has the ridership for each station? All I've found is this SMH article, which does not have ridership for every station. Thanks, Steelkamp (talk) 04:11, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

@Steelkamp: Good question, they don't seem to have publicly available stats for the most recent years.

If you go to opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au, that website has a lot of weird and fascinating datasets on NSW transport, but you first need to sign up for a free account to download any of the excel spreadsheets.

opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/dataset/train-station-entries-and-exits-data is the closest thing I can find. It has snapshot data of selected two week periods for individual stations between 2016 and 2020.

Give this a try as well: opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/dataset/opal-tap-on-and-tap-off-release-2.

They do have performance data and monthly, weekly and yearly stats for each train/metro/light rail/ferry line, bus contract region and bus operator and a total for each transport mode at transport.nsw.gov.au/data-and-research/data-and-insights. Interestingly, a breakdown of what type of ticket/concession people use too but no dice for individual station numbers. The Open Data website link is opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/dataset/opal-trips-train. At that Open Data link, at the bottom, there's some comments by some users, and presumably an employee called alejandro.felman responded with the following:

Hi Llewellyn, unfortunately we don’t have updated data on a per station basis. However, you can use our Opal Tap-On/Tap-Off datasets to look at similar data on a per station basis. These datasets are historical snapshots from various two-week periods that should give you an idea of usage.

Since that Open Data website has a forum function thingy, I saw some users trying to ask for this data, but it seems that they haven't budged on ‘privacy’ concerns. I mean if any of us here have access to a reliable source to publish at, we could totally try and do a $30 GIPA/FOI application to Transport for NSW for this information lol! @Steelkamp: Yeah I guess unfortunately not, but maybe in the future, they might, I can see how it would help with the list. Completely irrelevant to the wiki, but I'm just happy that they have open data on real time public transport vehicle locations. You can track pretty much every TfNSW train, bus, coach, tram and ferry in the state, it really helps to see if your bus is running late or whatever. So many mobile trip planning/map apps have access to this data too. It's something I hope that some of the other states implement if they haven't already. Fork99 (talk) 05:24, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

We have real time bus tracking in Perth, although often the tracker lags half a minute behind where the bus really is.

I have similar frustrations with the lack of ridership data for individual stations in Perth. When writing articles on stations in Perth, I generally have to make do with data from 2013-14, which is the latest I've been able to find comprehensive ridership data for each station. ...to see fundamental maintenance issues addressed in the wider scope of things. One small problem I have seen in some oz arts about rail things, is that the wikidata/short decrip has no sense of 'tense' relating to former railway lines, it is as if the railway lines still exist and are operational, even in some cases there is no attempt in the lead sentences to clearly say 'former' or as some enthusiasts so love to put it 'defunct' (maybe that is something that I miss, either they are open/ closed, or even tracks remain/tracks lifted distinction maybe as away of identifying levels of no longer operating) Anyways keep up the good work! Nobody bothered to tell me at all (well not until a few days ago), but rater has changed... :) - the top line in the box is possible to put the class for all the projects which can remain de-fanged. What I have done at TAA talk page might give you a clue... I was lucky enough to be at a meetup where I was able to have a chat with the creator of Rater - and also became very aware of the deprecation of ORES - you would have to either respond here or at my talk to find out more, It is spooky trying to relate to silent talk pages, so to speak. Basically it looks like you have disabled the banner shell.... Why? For heavens sake reply, I have repeatedly tried to have conversation and you remain silent? The disabling of the banner shell removes a part of the serviceability of the process, unless you know something that I dont... and leaving off the importance level for transport still makes me wonder... @JarrahTree: sorry I didn't see your pings. My rater seems to only add a banner shell if one doesn't already exist when three or more WikiProjects are on the page, as far as I'm aware, I'm only aware of it being for cosmetic purposes (i.e. so you're not bombarded with a million WikiProjects at once on the talk page)? I have no idea if on the technical side of things it changes anything.

Regarding the importance, as far as I’m aware, when the main parent WikiProject Australia already has an importance level set for a particular page, its child projects seems to default to the main project's importance unless otherwise set to something else. For example, see Talk:1931 Avro Ten Southern Cloud disappearance, where I didn't add the importance for WP:AUSTS, but it's still automatically in Category:Low-importance Australian Transport articles because WikiProject Australia was already set to low importance.

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

well if that is how you feel about it, my apologies... The problem with notability is like the melbourne metropolitan focus of the project is hardly an australian wide understanding - and regional western australian bus service articles have never been a high focus of any editor by looks, which makes it far too easy to dismiss regional services in any state - that said, most Perth metro editors are web based (with a very strong bias to PTA and Metronet), and hardly ever adequately even use Trove let alone regional sources - the https://www.pta.wa.gov.au/our-services/transregional system is probably what you might be thinking of for a central default - I would strongly object to reducing back to that for any great urge to deal the gng on to the bus services however depleted the articles may currently appear, as the actual context and history of the services (like Albany) have not been adequately described in the articles as, if you havent noticed, general editing of Australian content is 'down', and going down... in some cases your finding more items for transport tags in australian articles you may be the only editor to visit those articles in the current state of low editing. Furthermore, the resounding echo chamber of Western Australian and Tasmanian projects (of which I am most familiar) strongly suggests that any identification of problem articles would be to actually encourage actual adding more material rather than applying GNG questions.JarrahTree 02:08, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

@JarrahTree: I'm not suggesting deletion, just simply a merge and/or expansion where possible. I do agree that the 20th century history aspects of buses in each of these places might have been forgotten about - I don't think that the TransRegional articles are the best place for it since the name implies a focus on the current branding name. Re Luxury Escapes - good work with the recent edits. @Fork99

Given the prominence of this brand in the Australian market most known for it's travel agency business (rather than TV show) - and the current ambiguity on wiki between the website and TV show of the same name, is it best to create 2 separate wiki articles? For example:

1. Luxury Escapes (TV show)
2. Luxury Escapes (travel agency)

The travel agency (including website) is one of Australia's largest travel brands...

The Broken Hill Outback Xplorer train runs weekly every Monday to Broken Hill.

The name is still official. I have read your reasoning on the the archived talk page, and it applies for Northern Tablelands Express, but not for Outback Xplorer.

On 1 January 2025, a one-month backlog drive for new pages patrol will begin in hopes of addressing the growing backlog. Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Each article review will earn 1 point, while each redirect review will earn 0.2 points. Streak awards will be given out based on consistently hitting point thresholds for each week of the drive. Greetings! Thank you for speedying a redirect that was a recent page move vandalism. I also appreciate how it happened that I was notified, and I appreciate that you reverted the notification. I understand checkbox errors, they happen. The content of the particular vandalism (and notice) led me to seek revdel. Please feel free to initiate that on your own in the future if you find this particular word at hand involved in vandalism-related twinkling or checkbox misfires. Especially if there's indication the non-authoring notified editor is from or in North America. I don't mean to browbeat at all. I just can't think of any comparably distressing word to have in a usertalk history. Thanks again for your revert, for all you do, and for your time reading this. Cheers! @JFHJr: funny thing, I only stumbled upon that user's edits because of the ANI thread next to another one I was involved in at the time. I'm from Australia, and that word isn't widely used here in a local context, and I only know its connotation because of North American popular culture.
