I am communications director for the park and have kept my distance from the page, as I understand companies should not edit "their" page. Not sure exactly what you mean, I'm not familiar with that page but, to make changes is pretty much the same process as you use to leave this message, you click the appropriate edit link to the section where you want to make your change, change the text in the edit area that you desire then click "Show preview" and when the page re-loads and the changes you made look OK to you then (be sure to leave an edit summary (a brief explanation of your changes)) click the "Save pages" button and it's done. If the changes are substantial you might first post your changes and why you think the changes need to be made this process is called consensus any claims need to be verified and referenced. you can find more information at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia. Hey FlightTime/Archive 10 :). A quick update on how things are going with the New Page Triage/New Pages Feed project. As the enwiki page notes, the project is divided into two chunks: the "list view" (essentially an updated version of Special:NewPages) and the "article view", a view you'll be presented with when you open up individual articles that contains a toolbar with lots of options to interact with the page - patrolling it, adding maintenance tags, nominating it for deletion, so on.

On the list view front, we're pretty much done! We tried deploying it to enwiki, in line with our Engagement Strategy on Wednesday, but ran into bugs and had to reschedule - the same happened on Thursday :(. We've queued a new deployment for Monday PST, and hopefully that one will go better. If it does, the software will be ready to play around with and test by the following week! :).

On the article view front, the developers are doing some fantastic work designing the toolbar, which we're calling the "curation bar"; you can see a mockup here. A stripped-down version of this should be ready to deploy fairly soon after the list view is; I'm afraid I don't have precise dates yet. When I have more info, or can unleash everyone to test the list view, I'll let you know :). As always, any questions to the talkpage for the project or mine. Thanks! I was under the impression that associated acts refers to bands that feature any member of the band in question in it. That's why I put those associated acts in there. I guess I'm wrong?? As the editnotice states, any changes to an established infobox require discussion first, you may discuss your changes on the talk page and see if everyone agrees with your changes, any changes added without a discussion will be reverted. This page is written in Canadian English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, centre, travelled, realize, analyze) and some terms may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.

No problem but the reference you added to your claim did not say anything about him being from barstow, in fact it mentioned Lake Elsinore which is about a hundred miles south west of barstow, and Mr. Martinez page says he's from Apple valley which is about seventy miles closer. If you want to add him to Notable people from Barstow you must find a reliable source that confirms he is. Do not re-add this claim without proper references or it will be removed as vandalism. Thanks for your assistance, however I am a bit confused by the fact that most references from "notable people" do not reference a connection to Barstow as well (i.e., Stand Ridgway, Jeanne Crain, etc.) The reference I had given for Mr. Martinez most clearly demonstrated his notoriety. If you truly read through his page, Joe A. Martinez, you would have seen a reference from the local paper, The Desert Dispatch (http://www.desertdispatch.com/sports/-1531--.html), that discussed him as a "Barstow native". Understand that I am not trying to attack you, nor vandalize the site, but it is frustrating that my work would be removed without being thoroughly investigated. No problem, as you state the local paper says he's from Barstow, then use that paper as your reference/source, locate that article you speak of and use that link in you reference. Notoriety is not the issue, that has been established, he has his own page, which states he's from Apple Valley which I know is just a stones throw from Barstow, maybe he lived in Barstow for some time. You mentioned 2 schools in Barstow, do any of those schools list him as a student ? If his own article says he was born in Apple Valley then that's where he's from. If he was educated or skilled in Barstow then if mentioned it must be in that context. As for the other names from Barstow, they haven't been challenged or address, if you find any claim within Wikipedia as an user you have the right to question that claim, this is what the talk pages are for. As the link you gave above does state "Barstow native" you might want to start a discussion on his talk page about this subject it seems his page might be in error. The only other thing I can think of which would explain the confusion is his parents lived in Barstow and for what ever reason had their child in Apple Valley. To be totally honest I was recently considering an RfA, during this discussion I was having with myself, I was approached about throwing my hat in the 2012 CUOS appointment ring, which I have done. I read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_soapbox that "This applies to articles, categories, templates, talk page discussions, and user pages." but it didn't mention anything about "This includes using Special:EmailUser to recruit users for your own project."

Is there any documentation you can refer me to that says I can't use the Special:EmailUser function? I'm not doubting this, I just wanted to read more into it to find a better way to share my project with other people.

"I just wish I knew to whom I'm thanking" I'm just a plain old IP. Staying an IP keeps my edits honest because they're looked at closely. It also gives me the same perspective that the general public has of Wikipedia because I'm not treated like a veteran user. I prefer it that way.

Regarding an RfA, I think you'd make a very fine admin and if IPs could !vote, I'd certainly support you. You might want to get input from a few of the people listed at WP:DOIHAVEASHOT before you run. I'd also mention what I told Ryan here, specifically the part about RfA not being a reflection of the candidate, but of how critical the community has become. It can be a bit of a shock if you're not prepared for it. You might also ask for Ryan's perspective, as he just went through an RfA. Anyhoo, I'll wish you luck in case you decide to run. Your moves of the Extinct Birds files are unnecessary—the previous names are descriptive, accurate, and unproblematic—and moving these files is problematic: the names should harmonise with the other images from this book (on Commons; this principle and that of not altering good names are stated by the suggestions here and guideline on Commons), and should match the names of the deleted files on Commons (which will eventually be restored, leaving the copies here to be deleted) and earlier names (for convenience, in looking at old revisions). I did not move those files because of descriptive, inaccurate, or problematic issues I just thought the smaller filenames would be better and the descriptive nature of the filenames were transferred to the file descriptions. In general, you should avoid making moves like these—things like the title of a book an image is from are always good to include in a file name (though it would be good to use a different format, this one is used for a lot of files in several different projects, and good enough), and generic names like those you chose are likely to end up conflicting with file names on Commons. —innotata 22:21, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've also participated in numerous RfAs before (including your current RfA, where I have voiced support for your acquiring adminship). Ahaha thanks. My favourite part of your response = "rebel flare". It reminds me of a song by a very famous music artist; it also conjures up images of a rock musician with a mohawk hairstyle (which I've never cared for, personally).

I'm actually very surprised at how pleasant my RfA has been. It's interesting too because I'm basically failing it, and yet I really do enjoy getting the opportunity to hear from the community and to interact with them on how to better myself in my endeavours on this site (as well as getting a feel for some of the people on this site, who may or may not have known of me beforehand). I still do want to become an administrator someday — I've thought about it and I now feel much more confident that I could handle the role diligently if it were entrusted to me. I had a feeling it wouldn't succeed if I were to submit it around this time, but I'm glad I at least took a chance and faced down my fears of the process, which really turned out much better than I thought it would.

It has been a pleasure talking to you as well, and I can relate to "took a chance and faced down my fears of the process" as that is the very reason it's taken this long for me to run. I have found that a RfA is much more reliable and informitive than an editor review. There's a couple things you've mentioned that brought back some memories, I too admire a little rebellious attitude and lifestyle and I remember my eldest brother showed up at home sometime in the late 60's with his attitude and I'll never forget my mother's attitude that same day . Hectic is not a word I would ever use to describe ACC IMO there's no better place to hang out. I don't believe it has become more active, ATM it rather slow. The process is easy, first you must fulfill the basic requirement, you must identify to the Wikimedia Foundation. Once your identified just follow these instructions. As I mentioned ACC is not backlogged (unless you're a CheckUser :P) with request or users. As Cyberpower678 probably knows but, Ryan Vesey you may not, I am but one Admin of twenty-two, so I can not guarantee acceptance. Also Ryan because of your heightened involvement in my RfA I'll have to recuse myself in your application because of COI issues, if you choose to apply. Good luck to you both. Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right. It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). We'll be holding two office hours sessions to discuss the tool and improvements to it; the first is at 19:00 UTC on 14 August, and the second at 23:00 on the 15th. Yes, the only decision the 'crats have is to close as unsuccessful. I'm still not sure if I want to re-apply, but I probably will. I want to thank you for your support at my RfA but mostly your support here on my talk page. You are a very nice and compassionate person, I wish you had more edits under your belt as that would of changed my !vote at yours. I supported and nothing would have changed my mind. However, RfA is something of a lottery and if I were a 'crat I would probably have no option but to close this very close call as not successful. Take solace that with 1,500 or so admins and probably more than double that number of failed attempts, there have only ever been SIX previous 'crat chats to decide on a consensus - so let's hope your #7 will be a lucky number for the next attempt. Apologies for not getting back to you on the question you raised about my notes - unfortunately I had to go away unexpectedly and so was unable to respond. Indeed, as delirious says, it was only a matter of the edits being to the article itself and not to the infobox, which was what your edit summary stated. As I said in my comments, the automated systems need some tweaking in regard to edit summaries, in many cases enough options are not given in the default summaries, or one small click to change a notice or edit in TW or AWB causes massive changes in the automated edit summaries they place.

I realise it is disheartening to get these sort of pettinesses during an RFA and, as you rightly pointed out, these are the sort of matters that should have been brought up in editor reviews rather than here, giving ample chance for one to correct any issues and produce a good few months of edits showing something that was mentioned was either incorrect or had been addressed. Something can be said for the ineffectiveness of editor reviews, as I am sure you are aware almost anyone can review another editor, and it is not often that multiple reviews are submitted on each review. Perhaps that is something that needs pushing forwards, if we are to have effective admins, good candidates, such as yourself, will fall over petty and small-minded obstacles such as these at RFA - matters which can easily be surmounted if one is aware of them in the first place.
