@Folengo: I found it on KCNA in Korean last night. I've transliterated the list, citing Choson Sinbo for the benefit of a stable link. It's a highly interesting list, as this is the first published funeral committee in over a year and includes many new names thanks to sweeping organizational changes within the political elite. Hi, George Ho. We need to figure out which image to use, as we can't have both. I hoped that seeing both images and their respective rationales would have helped discussion. Frankly, I'm a little perplexed as to why Sandstein closed it so early, just one day after it being relisted and with zero new arguments being presented.

As for the actual issue, I've tried, unsuccessfully, to get this across: File:Golden Lion size.jpg involves the copyright of sculptor and the copyright of the person who took the photo, both of whom have reserved all rights. File:Golden Lion.jpg too involves the copyright of the sculptor, but the person who took the photo has waived all rights, making it WP:FREER than File:Golden Lion size.jpg.

What I would have liked to hear at FFD is whether people agree or disagree with this argument instead of a close that leaves both files in limbo. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 21:01, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

I don't think Sandstein would likely respond, would he? In terms of quality, I think the long-standing image (white background one) should stay, while the other one should go, no matter how "free" the hands one is. Hi, and thanks for reporting problematic content. I've removed the paragraph about the relationship between Turkish/Huns and the Scandinavians. The paragraph about the "Odin-people" in Azerbaijan, it seems, was no longer in the article. Were these what you intended to remove, or is there still some problematic content present in the article? As to what to do to such content in general, anyone, including you (you don't need to register for an account to edit most articles) can simply remove it. The opposite was actually the case. That Azerbaidschan stuff is allright and sourced. It’s what Thor Heyerdahl proposed. Hi Finnusertop. You uploaded this as {{non-free symbol}}, but it seems pretty simple per c:COM:TOO#United States even if it's protected by copyright in its country of origin. Maybe the licensing could be change to {{PD-ineligible-USonly}}? If not, then that's OK but the file keeps on getting added to Flags of micronations where it's non-free use is near impossible to justify. If converted to "PD-ineligible-USonly", the file could be added to the more general flag article since its use would no longer be subject to WP:NFCCP. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:30, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Dear Finnusertop, back in 2018, you uploaded a non-free photo of Sorabji to File:Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji.jpg, which is justified by several NFCC. I intend to take the Sorabji article to FA status this year, but the relative scarcity of free images of Sorabji and people close to him may be a major obstacle in achieving that. One person whose picture I would like to include in the article is that of Sorabji's companion Reginald Norman Best, with whom he lived for several decades. The rationale would be the same as for the Sorabji photo, and if anything, the case would be even stronger: I'm aware only of a grand total of two of photos of Best, which were taken by the same photographer (Joan Muspratt) who took the photo of Sorabji in the lead, and Best died a couple months before Sorabji. The photos have been published on a Facebook page dedicated to Sorabji (see [1] and [2]), but I'm not sure if being reproduced "merely" on Facebook would disqualify them from being used. At least the photo with a yellow-ish background (from the first Facebook link) has been reproduced in a PhD dissertation on Sorabji's life (see p. 330 [numbered 329 at the bottom of the page] in the PDF file at https://search.proquest.com/docview/304711487). Would you be able to help with this case? I have very limited experience with this area of Wikipedia and I entrust it to your better judgment and expertise. Many thanks for your time and assistance. Hello, Toccata quarta, and thank you for the question. I'm sorry to tell you that using a non-free image of Best would probably not pass the NFCC. The problem is contextual significance which is interpreted differently for the main subject of the article (in this case Sorabji) and other subjects that the article deals with only tangentially (here Best). It's virtually always acceptable to identify the person who is the main subject of the article by a lead image (see WP:NFCI§10). But for other, tangential subjects, to identify them visually is not deemed necessary for the reader to understand what's being discussed. Some types of images could be used to accompany critical commentary of visual aspects (such as a painting in an article about a painter when discussing his style), but this is not one of those cases (since what Best looked like is not relevant). This is how it's in the policy and this is how it always goes down in discussion at WP:FFD.

As for the images by Muspratt (both of Sorabji and of Best): Muspratt seems to have died in 1957, which means that all photographs by her will enter the public domain in 2027. Until then, we're stuck with the present situation (that the Sorabji is okay to use in the article but the Best one is not). I don't think the Facebook thing would have maked a difference. But my understanding is that the lack of addditional images should not negatively affect any bid for an FA article since FAs only have to have images "where appropriate" (the Good Article criteria are a bit more clear on this, saying images are called for "when possible"). – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 00:55, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello Finnusertop, it's me again. I have been gathering information/permissions for using Sorabji-related images on WP, and managed to get approval for two excerpts from one edition (from both Alistair Hinton, the composer's residual legatee, and the editor who created the edition). What would be the easiest way to proceed from here on? Have both send their approvals via email, with one of them uploading the excerpts? Obviously one of the emails will arrive earlier, so I hope there is no issue with "Speedy Deletion" for images. To what email do you recommend they send the approvals? @Toccata quarta: thanks for coming back. It's best if the photo(s) are first uploaded on Commons (it does not matter who does this if permission is forthcoming, so it could be you for example). The next step is to tag the image with Template:OTRS pending (please use to code {{subst:OP}} to do so). This will achieve exactly what you asked, i.e. prevent the image from being speedy deleted when we're still waiting for the permissions to arrive (you will have 37 days). Next, instruct the heir(s) to send the permission email. It's very important that you give them the exact URL of the file(s) you just uploaded to be included in the email. Likewise, make them write the exact license you chose for the upload (the default, which is "CC BY-SA 4.0", should be fine). They should use the form outlined here: Commons:Email templates. That should be it. Hello Finnusertop, thank you once again for the information. I uploaded the files to Commons and they are now "split" between Commons and Wikipedia (see [3], [4] and [5]). Alistair Hinton (Sorabji's residual legatee) and Abel Sánchez-Aguilera (a Sorabji editor and performer) have both provided their permissions to Commons via email, but with the exception of the Organ Symphony No. 3 excerpt (for which only Hinton's approval is necessary), neither of them qualifies as the "holder of the full and exclusive copyright". Both used the email template from Commons:Email templates, which might be causing some confusion, judging by the information I have received from Hinton and Sánchez-Aguilera. The "same" query is being handled by two different individuals, and I'm not sure if they are in touch with each other on the matter (or if that is even allowed). Is there anything I can do to clarify the situation? The files (see the aforementioned links) contain information on who owns the copyrights to what. Thank you. Those OTRS tickets (the emails) don't have a number. File:Sorabji, Piano Symphony No. 1 (Tantrik), edition, page 244.png does have a number. If you think the information sent regarding the last file will also help clearing the rights for the first two, you can copy and paste the "OTRS received" template onto those pages. You can repeat this process for the other two files when those OTRS emails have actually been taken up. That's how I'd link those permissions. I procrastinated a bit with this issue (like I usually do), but in the end, it was resolved smoothly and all three uploads are now tagged as having the requisite permissions. If I may bother you further (though I hope to give you a break sooner than later), there is a photo of Sorabji's father here. The copyright is given on the very photo as "Maull & Fox : 187A Piccadilly, London (1879-85)", for which a few details are given here. I found just a handful of photos from this source on Commons (e.g. File:Markham_Le_Fer_Taylor.jpg), though this may simply indicate that the collection includes mostly images of non-notable individuals. Would you say the photo of Sorabji's father would be PD? For what it's worth, he was born in 1863 and died in 1932, and the photo was taken sometime in the 1890s. Many thanks. As mentioned earlier in this conversation, I have managed to contact the copyright holder for Joan Muspratt's photos and have resumed correspondence with them recently. Following their confirmation, I have uploaded three of Muspratt's photos to Commons, tagged them with the OTRS template and asked the copyright holder to provide their confirmation via the official channels. One of the files I've uploaded (File:Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji in 1945 (b).jpg) is a high-resolution version of File:Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji.jpg. Once the OTRS volunteers have processed the email granting the permission for those images to be used, is there some process as to what happens to the older file, which was uploaded on the basis of NFCC criteria? I am so sorry, Toccata quarta, I seem to have missed your message (I did get a notification but I must have gotten distracted). Anyway, the answer is simple: once you are confident enough that the Commons file will stick, please go ahead and replace the NFC file in the article with it. This will leave the NFC file "orphaned" (no longer used in any articles). There is a bot that will go through these and delete them without you having to take any action. Hi, Mcb133aco. "Rps" stands for readable prose seize. Someone had tagged the article with the template {{Very long}} because they thought it was too long. I took the "rps" reading to see just how long it is. This makes it easy to compare with the rule of the thumb here; a readable prose size of 60 or more means that the article probably should be split or otherwise condensed. Adding the "rps" number does nothing except for alter the tag at the top of the article to read "This article may be too long to read and navigate comfortably. Hi! In this edit you imply that the CC-BY-SA-4.0 licence is incompatible with Wikipedia. Can you explain the issue here? That licence is free content. I'm in touch with the owners of the original text and I don't think relicensing will be a problem if necessary. I've looked at Wikipedia:Copyrights#Using_copyrighted_work_from_others and I don't see anything there forbidding text with this licence. I also don't see on my Talk page any notification about this problem. I noticed you edited this page. Unlike when I contributed to the (archived) "delete" discussion in 2006, I can see no evidence that this denomination has any meaningful existence any more. Perhaps Brian Schwertley preaches to some people in Prosper, Texas (SermonAudio shows new audio sermons by him every week, but gives no street address for church services), but WPCUS certainly does not seem to be a micro-denomination with several locations across North America, like it was 15 years ago. Although notability is not temporary (i.e. if something was notable in 2006, it still is), it's no secret that deletion debates in the olden days were not quite as stringent as they are now. I would consider simply re-nominating it for deletion at WP:AFD. I might not be personally interested in nominating or participating.
