During my successful Rfa, you expressed concern about my report of User:Fullyang to WP:UAA. I had actually created that account per an Account Creation request as part of my duties on the account creation team. I didn't notice until after I'd created it that the e-mail address was using the Fullyang.com domain name. Do you still think the UAA request was wrong? Well said... I'm getting tired by the many non-vios reported there. I mean you expect false positives from the bots but the other reporters seem to be even worse... there's way less mistakes at AIV, even. I think something needs to be done because it's making UAA pretty useless as a page for intentional violations (what's the difference between this and the recently reported User:Wikidududu? hey seckle/filelakeshoe... something i've spoken about with martin clark before - and that i am presently reconsidering - is the opening paragraph of the dubstep article. it could definitely use improvement. in a way it doesn't say much about what dubstep sounds like - instead, what it is busy doing is establishing notability, who coined the phrase, where the sound came from, and that sort of thing. here it is, broken down:

Dubstep is a genre of electronic music that has its roots in London's early 2000s UK garage scene.

this statement is fine - what this article is about, in a broad sense, and some context.

Musically, dubstep is distinguished by its dark mood, sparse rhythms, and emphasis on bass.

this could do with improvement - it's OK, i guess, and sort of explains the difference between, say, dubstep and psy-trance, but it could be a hell of a lot better.

Dubstep started to spread beyond small local scenes in late 2005 and early 2006, with many websites devoted to the genre appearing on the Internet and thus aiding the growth of the scene, such as dubstepforum, the download site Barefiles and blogs such as gutterbreakz.

this is where the problem becomes apparent - i'm reading this article for the first time. whilst things like sources, asserting notability, and the internet as a disseminating factor in the spread of the genre are undoubtedly important, a first-time reader of the article has no interest in this. his concerns are more along the line of "what is it?".

Simultaneously, the genre was receiving extensive coverage in music magazines such as The Wire and online publications such as Pitchfork Media, with a regular feature entitled The Month In: Grime/Dubstep.

Interest in dubstep grew significantly after BBC Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs started championing the genre, beginning with a show devoted to it (entitled "Dubstep Warz") in January 2006.

and again, same problem... notability paranoia..

it's now a big, stable article. there is plenty of space to include all this stuff. the opening paragraph should include more references to other musics, more descriptive stuff regarding what this music actually sounds like.

Drum and bass began as an offshoot of the United Kingdom rave scene of the very early 1990s. Over the first decade of its existence, the incorporation of elements from various musical genres lent to many permutations in its overall style.

Hi there. Thanks for your recent edit to Template:Universities and colleges in London. Although Thames Valley University does have a campus in Ealing, London, most of the university (and its students) are based at sites in Slough and Reading in Berkshire. Therefore, as such, Thames Valley University is not a 'London' university. However it is listed in Template:Universities and colleges in South East England. Actually, completely ignore what I have just said! On further investigation, it does appear that Thames Valley University sees its base in 'West london'. That is where the 'head office' is and where the vice chancellor is based etc, AND it markets itself as a London university. I stand corrected. I will put back your change! Actually, the article, as it existed when you removed the speedy tag, makes no assertions of notability whatsoever. It merely states that they are a band who released an album. The references provided verify those facts: they are a band and they've released an album. The problem isn't that I don't believe their assertion of notability, but that no assertion of notability is made, and no references can be found that would help me improve the article to the point of making such an assertion. Hi Antonín. That AfD included three articles, but fair enough, I got the feeling an "ancient science" which was considered non-notable in 2006 would definitely still be considered non-notable today. Alternative medicine topics are basically not allowed to have articles on Wikipedia unless there are a load of scientific journals slagging them off, the sources on that google books list would all be dismissed as unreliable/promotional/not independent. Don't get me wrong, this is the one thing I hate the most about Wikipedia, but that's how it is, and you're in for a Galileo-style lynching if you want to fight to keep this article, let me warn you! I know nothing about Pranic healing and I'm not at all a fan of alternative medicine :) However, 3,600 results on G-Books and 880 000 G-hits suggest that this term is not entirely trivial and people might search for an explanation here on Wikipedia, no matter how unscientific the topic is. That's why I object. Also, the AfD took place 5 years ago and Wikipedia changed a lot from that time. I think this topic deserves another discussion about its suitability for this project. ... I wasn't angry, I found it really funny :) It's sth I have to deal with all the time, as an English person learning Czech, the assumption that English speakers are all linguistically illiterate.. which I understand, because we don't have to learn another language to communicate with people. Hi - actually I deleted a page someone created in 2008, which was a copyright violation, i.e. the text had been copied and pasted from another website. The page you created in 2011 was deleted by another admin, not because of copyright, but because the convention's notability was in question. That something "exists" isn't a good enough reason for it to be included on Wikipedia, it has to be written about in independent reliable sources. Not sure what's going on here to be honest - didn't really understand the suggestion on WT:CSD. If I read it correctly it was asking for a speedy criterion for images which are uploaded twice, which is CSD F1. But the image you tagged is used on an article, and you haven't specified where the redundant version is, where is it? - filelakeshoe 17:46, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

It's the multiple images at the bottom if you look there's three of them. I don't know how to make the CSD so they can be erased as there's no need for the other two resolutions as the image was made smaller. Swifty*^talk 17:59, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I am relatively new here with only a few edits under my belt. One was fairly substantial. I appreciated your help with my PHI Inc. Article by moving it to my sandbox. I have spent several (many) hours working on this article. I have even learned how to and edited some of my very own templates so that I can get the coding and format of the page to look right. It is my attempt to make the PHI Inc Page fit to a uniform format followed by all aviation company pages, specifically helicopter services pages. I have several Helicopter service companie articles that I would like to add as well as many edits to the existing pages that are well outdated. As you can tell I work in the helicopter business and it is a passion of mine.

However I am having some trouble. I tried to republish brief overview of the article I am working on in my sandbox to wikipedia, again under the PHI Inc heading. This was only a brief overview with only basic company overview and a

Regarding your declining the CSD, it was at AfD, and while there someone tagged it A7, and it was CSD'd before the AfD could close. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Peer Posipal. I wasn't sure if I could tag it G4, since it was at AfD, but the actual deletion happened by CSD, and you can't G4 something that was CSD'd. I'll take it back to AfD again if you wish, but I'd rather not waste the bandwidth. The subject of the article never played in a "fully professional league," so he fails WP:NFOOTY. Yes, in retrospect I should have left it at AfD. The article which was speedied per A7 had one sentence saying he was a footballer and who his father was and that was it, no assertion to notability. This newer version asserts notability, so it's not A7. Surprisingly, at this point I would agree. However I cannot see how anyone can expect an agreement to update the guidelines to happen. That was the purpose of the Beyoncé invitation, despite the fact that it was flawed due to my own assumption that because I consider it more an issue for BLPs than other articles (which evidently isn't a view widely shared among either for- or against- Chicago MOS). The fact is that the 90 invited who were pro-diacritics in passing (which under normal circumstances would include me, passing by) simply (a) did not turn up and (b) the 20 that did could not make as much noise as the 10 against. I'm sorry but under this sort of dynamic I cannot see how anyone can expect an agreement to update the (which) guidelines, much as I'd love to see one. Don't despair, the discussion which went on at the BLP talk page was much more constructive than the one last spring at WT:UE. People even went as far as removing diacritics from people's signatures, didn't see anything that ridiculous this time around. The important thing is compromising, I must admit I'm actually fine with the title Novak Djokovic (or Djoković) for example. The connection between ketamine and "the origins of dubstep" is not something that can be verified using this cite. Reynolds simply acknowledges that is is a rumour, but he's not really telling us anything. While I accept that verifiable connections between certain musical styles and specific substances can be made, I don't believe there is strong enough evidence offered in this instance to feature note of it in the article, especially not in the context of tying ketamine to the "the origins of dubstep." Well he's telling us that there's a dispute in the scene over it, which is definitely true (High Rankin did a couple of topical pieces bashing use of ket and mephedrone), and that that short lived strain of dubstep may have been influenced by ketamine. I'm not sure it's necessary, especially not without usable verifiable sources. If we were talking about, for example, "rave," we could without question connect it with e usage, there are multiple academic sources to draw upon, but I can't say the same for ketamine and dubstep. Hi! I saw you deleted a page about EPiServer some months ago because it did not seem to be relevant. I had just revived an Episerver article that was deleted 2007 and now I saw that the urls are case sensitive and that EPiServer is another page. The latter is the one I think is best to use so I will try to copy my page there now. Hope you will find the article relevant this time because we are many who are working with this cms and I saw many smaller CMS systems have wikipedia pages. Not sure if I can delete the Episerver article and instead keep the EPiServer article. If not it would be nice if you could help me with that.

if they are called "South Bohemia Region" or "South Bohemia (region)" I don't particularly care much about. "Warwickshire" is a bad example because the name is written that way, not in separate brackets. If you look at other regions and states such as "Connecticut" and "Bavaria" you will see that it is not called "State of Connecticut". But again, I am open to the different variants. Officially moravian flag does not exists, never did. There are some flags used in Moravia in the history, but this particular one(yello-red with or without the shield) is known only as a symbol of a group of Moravians since cca 1990. There is no single prove that this flag is the flag of Moravia. Unless you can find one i have to ask you to remove both the pictures of it from the page, please, as this information is really incorrect. We really should not try to decide which flag is the one. Simply because there is no one. The last one used in the history of Moravia is the three color on the top of the page Morava. The oldest one in the Moravian history is the blue one with the eagle on it. None of those two is the flag of Morava neither any of those two mentioned above. Can only suggest, we leave the page without any flag. The matter itself should stay on the page Moravska vlajka I assume. I am planning to create an English version of it. First at all, thank you for the understanding. A single flag was never officially given to Morava by a monarch. However, there are flags used in Morava since mid 13th century. The King Karel IV used this blue flag as a symbol of (markrabstvi) of Morava although we have no source saying he actually have made it officially the flag of Morava. Hi, we generally don't write articles about new upcoming musicians, only established musicians who get coverage in reliable sources from third parties (news reviews, reviews on sites like pitchfork, NME, DJ mag, etc.) The references on the article now are all self-published, so not enough. Hi. I am curious about your reversion of my request for speedy deletion here. The page is in the way of a non-controversial technical move of the article to its proper name. The only user who appeared to oppose this was someone who doesn't appear to understand what speedy deletion and moves are for, and thought I was trying to maliciously delete a valuable redirect. If you like, you can participate in the discussion at Talk:Hyakunin Isshu#Requested move, but I really don't see why I should have to use RM when the move is completely uncontroversial like this. Well it was not clear to me at all whether this article was about "Hyakunin Isshu" in general or the "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu" - from the lede paragraph, it seems to be the former, so the present title seemed to be more appropriate. Moving the article to Ogura Hyakunin Isshu would mean reducing the scope of the article, so it is an editorial decision, not a non-controversial technical move. - filelakeshoe 10:34, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

I admit the opening is not very well-written at the moment, but: (1) the article was originally clearly about Teika's collection[6]; (2) most of the article below the first paragraph (5/6 of the sections) discuss Teika's collection exclusively; (3) it is fair to assume, then, that almost all of the edit history relates to Teika's collection, and needs to be preserved in a move; (4) when the word Hyakunin Isshu is used in both English and Japanese, 99.9% of the time it is being used as shorthand for the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu; and (5) all of the other hyakunin isshu are explicitly parodies of or inspired by Teika's collection, and are not individually notable enough to be discussed in a separate article (they should therefore be given a subsection of the article Ogura Hyakunin Isshu). elvenscout742 (talk) 15:15, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

The Czech you learned it from was either kidding you or didn’t understand the meaning of the English word, it quite obviously does not make any sense in the sentence. The usual Czech word for fire engine is “hasičská stříkačka” or “požární stříkačka”, commonly shortened to “stříkačka”. “Požární vozidlo” may well be the technical term used nowadays by fire departments, but it’s not something you would hear from general population. Anyway the tongue twister most likely predates the trucks used for this purpose since the second half of the 20th century, you should think of something like on the pictures in Fire engine#History or cs:Hasičská stříkačka.—Emil J. 14:32, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey Filelakeshoe. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Yes she ran away after her husband went to an interrogation related to another incident, a fight in which he participated during her performance. Some kids from another passing train shot her dead body on a video which is now available on TV NOVA server. that was a bit of a coincidence, I wasn't aware of recent discussion on this, spotted someone had redirected Gabber by chance. To be honest I'm not even sure there should be three separate articles called Gabber, Hardcore (electronic dance music), and Mainstream hardcore, and the latter states that "hardcore" grew out of gabber, but it's arguably the other way around - usable source on that here ("Living Through Pop" p.151). Sourcing is poor for both the "Gabber" and "Mainstream hardcore" article (essentially the same topic). My preference is for a single "Hardcore" article. I would think that nowadays hardcore and gabber might have different enough connotations for them to have separate articles, though not sure about available sources for the more recent developments in these styles. From the sources I can find on google books it seems that gabber and hardcore were used interchangeably in some circles in the 90s, so perhaps that article that suggests hardcore came out of gabber is actually trying to say "the second wave of gabber came out of gabber" which is pretty obvious anyway. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 07:47, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.

A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.

Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).

Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.

Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)

Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.

If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.

The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.

Filelakeshoe, back at 17:03, 26 September 2017 (UTC) you indefinitely blocked User:PlanetProductions123 for having a vandalism-only account; the user was adding false scores to various Strictly Come Dancing series articles and ignoring warnings and requests to stop.

The user is back as IP 82.13.161.118, making the same false score edits (adding a fifth score for a show that has four judges scores for each dance). Indeed, if you check back on 22 September, you'll see that 82.13.161.118 added the first set of false scores for the first week of Strictly Come Dancing (series 10) at 15:27, and PlanetProductions123 continued on with the rest of the weeks starting at 15:30, a mere three minutes later.

Furthermore, PlanetProductions123 had a single non-Strictly edit, back on 24 June 2017, to the 2014–15 Premier League article, where the account reversed a bunch of scores and was swiftly reverted. 82.13.161.118 was given two warnings in late March 2017 for vandalizing that same article. It seems clear that they're the same person doing the same kind of vandalizing edits; if you could please block the IP address, it would really help. Thank you very much. My opinion and explanation and native english historian about that is not accepted by the editor. Can you give your independent point of view? our opinion below: Zamek, Hrad, Castle or Chateau: In English a 'zamek' can mean 'Castle' or 'Country House'. A 'Country House' is a mansion or palace in the countryside, with a park. In each case they are lived-in places - homes. All 'hrady' are castles, ie fortified residences, usually dating from the Middle Ages - although there are quite a few fakes made in the 1820s-40s, when the Romantic Movement was at its height, via the novels of Sir Walter Scott. 'Chateau' is a French word usually covering Country Houses or zamky. The French word for castle - ie a fortified medieval stronghold - is 'Chateau Fort'. However, Chateau is now being used incorrectly. Skvorec isn't a chateau - better to use the word castle. 'Chateau Skvorec is totally wrong. Smaller castles or country houses are Manor Houses (French: manoire) - but Skvorec, in its high days, wasn't small.... so it is a real castle or hrad.

In a case like this I would recommend looking at what English-language sources are calling it, a castle or chateau (excluding the recent attempts to rebrand it as Savoia Castle.) Unfortunately I can only find Czech ones on google books. I'm not a historian so I can't really assess the finer points. I agree with you though that the difference between hrad x zámek in Czech doesn't quite line up with castle x chateau in English so would not assume it is a chateau just because it's called a zámek in Czech. – filelakeshoe (t / c)  21:16, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Tom.Reding: I am not tracking PUA sigs. I have been asking editors to make their signatures HTML5-compliant and to remove images from their signatures. After consensus is achieved in at WT:Signatures#Signature size guidelines, I will also ask editors to remove noncompliant font size markup. @Catrìona: The bit in bold means "no one was capable of understanding the reality of the situation unless they were facing it in person after arriving at Auschwitz". The "nikdo nebyl s to" was confusing me but I checked with a native speaker and apparently it's an old-fashioned idiom meaning "nikdo nebyl schopen". Hi @Tech23420: I closed those AfDs as soft delete because there was no participation in 7 days. If you want the articles restored or userfied, you need only ask at WP:REFUND (requests for undeletion), or just let me know and I will restore them for you.
