Hm. I wish the template told me that. In any case, I expanded the article with some of the material from the Japanese WP entry, but I need someone who has seen her stuff to doublecheck the names. I can't be sure, but they look right to me. IMDB confirmed "Taitei no Ken." Although, Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)#Body text #3 specifies "は, ヘ and を as particles are written wa, e, and o respectively." University faculties (Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, Faculty of Biological Science, University of Dhaka) cannot be notable as like as the university. The information seems valuable. I don't see any harm in keeping separate articles, but merging them is fine too. Just for reference, take a look at University of Edinburgh#Colleges and Schools. Nine of their colleges and schools have individual articles. I believe Dhaka deserves coverage too, and either individual articles or a combined article seems fine. The article on Jahangirnagar Pharmacy is briefer and might best be merged until more comprehensive information is available. It can be separated at a later time if the article on the university becomes too long.

These are just my opinions. Please feel free to consult other people too in addition to your opinions.

Hi, I'd like to discuss further your removal of the Proposed deletion template on Vincenzo Bianchini. The reason you gave was "Google search for "Vincenzo Bianchini" -wiki (including the quotation marks) provides a few hundred matches, many relevant."

I'm confused how that, in and of itself, is any sort of demonstration of notability. You can do a search for my name and find more than 20,000 matches, just about all of them related to me and my professional work. That doesn't make me notable or worthy of an encyclopedia entry. See WP:NOTE. My suspicion, based on the username of the article's author, is that it was written by a relative of the person, perhaps in tribute.

But the issue, as I laid out in the deletion proposal, is not just about the worthiness of the subject for inclusion; it's about the gibberish that constitutes the content of the article. It's a machine translation of the Italian Wikipedia entry and makes no sense whatsoever.

If I could fix it, I might, but a) it's nonsense and b) I'm still not convinced of the notability of the subject. If anything, I'd say that the dearth of hits on a Google search is a mark against notability. Also, identifying that the person is possibly notable is not the same as saying that the article asserts that notability (which is required to avoid speedy deletion - see WP:CSD#A7).

I still believe that the article, as is, can't be saved. It would need to be written from scratch and I don't see that happening. Since the deletion is contested, I'll open up a full AfD and invite your comment there. Cheers. Planetneutral 01:33, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

The points are worth looking into, and I had noticed the username of the article's author on the Italian Wikipedia. But that doesn't make the content automatically wrong or biased (although we might eventually conclude that it is), and if it's a machine translation it needs cleanup, not deletion. Calling it to the attention of a project concerned with Italy or fine arts might motivate someone to clean up the translation or verify that he merits an article. For comparison, take a look at another article before and after this edit. One editor described it as a "bunch of garble jarble nonsense" and another as a "botched translation" prior to my edit. After my edit, it looks like a Wikipedia article and has an English-language external link to support some of the information in it. I was able to do this without any knowledge of the Korean language. Someone with language skills and familiarity with the subject can surely do better. And it helps to have an article to start with. Also, I did not vote against deletion, even after cleaning up the article.

I looked at three or four of the articles Google found, and judged that the deletion of this article is controversial. Going through Articles for Deletion will get more people involved in the decision. Depending on the outcome of further investigation, I might vote either for or against deletion. Proposed Deletion is for articles that are not controversial. This article deserves broader scrutiny. Best regards, Fg2 02:02, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I think my perspective was that the translation was so bad, that it was irreparable and therefore uncontroversial to delete. At some level, I still think that, but I'm interested in the translation cleanup template that you added and whether it will result in the clear assertion of notability that I'm seeking. Thank you for helping with the Toshikazu Kase page which I started yesterday. I apologise for my ignorance, but I'm not quite sure how to give the name in kanji. Should it be '加瀬俊一' or '加瀬俊一 (1925年入省)'? In spite of my best efforts I can't figure out the significance of the inclusion of '1925', other than to guess that post that date the alternate script (?) was used. I'd be most grateful for your advice. Also, do you think that there is any material from the Japanese article that might enrich the English page? Armeria, thanks again for writing that article! You picked a difficult example, as there were two people who wrote their names using exactly the same kanji and worked for the same department of the Japanese government. The Japanese Wikipedia article titles begin with the name, and distinguish the people by adding the year they entered government service. So 加瀬俊一 is the person's name and the part in parentheses is the additional information that the Japanese Wikipedia needs because it has articles on both people. Interestingly, although they used the same kanji, they pronounced their names differently, the other person being Kase Shun'ichi (or often Kase Shunichi). So the English Wikipedia will never have to add the information about the year they entered government service to distinguish them.

Now, to answer your question. The kanji for his name are 加瀬俊一. If you wish to indicate the kana, which the Japanese use to show pronunciation, it's かせ　としかず. We usually don't put both kanji and kana in an article, but especially in a case like this there's no harm in it.

Thanks for providing a citation for that material, but since that article is in English, wouldn't it be better if the citation were given in romaji, not Japanese script? Hello! I think your decision to move the Schola Gregoriana article to this page is a sensible one, however I am still unsure that the notability of the subject merits being merged into the Queen's University of Belfast article, as this is simply one small set of people within another student group (the Catholic Chaplaincy), with no apparent claim to notability other than the fact that they sing every Sunday (something which many, many choirs do). If there was an article on the Catholic Chaplaincy itself (although I'm not sure whether that would be considered notable), I would happily merge this content there, but as there is not, I am unsure whether there is anywhere for it to go, so I'm considering taking it to afd. Of course you can ask for community consensus on deletion, and as you know many such articles are deleted. My preference would be to rename the article something like "Extracurricular activities at Queen's University of Belfast" or "Clubs and societies at ..." and make this the first entry in the hope that others would add information about theatre groups, orchestras, mountaineering activities, and other things that students do when they're not studying. I agree that there's nothing that makes this group stand out in particular, and I expect that many other groups would likewise be similar to their counterparts elsewhere (theatre groups perform; orchestras play; mountaineers climb) but I hope that collectively they're worth an article, as some other universities have. So this would be the seed of an article rather than an article on its own. Many Wikipedia articles begin small and change focus and direction as people add to them. It's easier to add to an existing article than to create a new one, and an existing article can inspire an editor to add more, whether to flesh out an idea that's already there or in indignation about a glaring omission. So my instincts say give it some time and room. In any case, if it does go to AfD, and the community votes to delete it, I can hardly object. Many thanks for explaining your reasoning. List of historical Camden County, New Jersey municipalities has been tagged for cleanup for over a year. It's just a list and some dates. I have no idea what the dates or indenting are supposed to indicate. Also, it has no references so we don't know where the data came from.

(I figured I should let you know because you opposed the prod. The prod was my taking the easy way out when I couldn't figure out how to clean it up. I should get out and enjoy the good articles more often, but there are so MANY that need cleanup. Hey, you replied that you removed Harrisburg from Hiroshima's list of sister cities. I was wondering exactly what list you removed it from? I noticed it wasn't on Hiroshima's page which is why I questioned it on other pages. I was just curious were you removed it from because its still on the list of sister cities for the US, and also on Harrisburg's page, so I am going to remove it from those two places, and state Hiroshima's talk page for the edit so no one disputes them being removed from the list. Hi GroverTheGnome, Here's a suggestion that can help you. Why not write your articles temporarily on your user page (or subpages). They don't have to meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. And when the subject becomes notable you'll be able to rename ("move") them to the titles you want. It's an easy way to get around the requirement for notability. So don't worry, you can still write the article on this subject and have it on Wikipedia, just in a different place. I hope that suggestion helps. Best regards Fg2 12:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Umm... Huh? Vandalistic blanking of a page counts as protest of the PROD notice? That's a pretty broad interpretation of the rules. And not an interpretation I've seen before. And not really an interpretation I would make. Hi TexasAndroid. I agree with you about blanking an article not being the same as contesting a deletion proposal (and it's in the policy too). But there's more to this one. There had been an earlier deletion proposal by User:JuJube. I removed the first deletion proposal on March 3. The blanking removed the second proposal. Your deletion proposal was the third, and I removed it on the basis of the first one having been removed (by me), not on the basis of the blanking of the article. Which is to say that on March 3 I protested the deletion proposal, so if there's to be a next step, it would be Articles for Deletion. Hope that clarifies matters. Fg2 21:03, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello. Last October we had a short discussion (now archived) regarding templates to be used on redirect pages. A few months ago I found the {{R from title without diacritics}}. I have been using it for a while and for the most part it seems ideal for many of the redirects that I deal with. It also allows us to sidestep the issue of misspelling vs. alternative spelling as well. Unfortunately, though, it does not provide a solution to dealing with redirects such as Honshû where the macrons are there, but they are not the preferred ones. Still, it works well for maybe 90%+ of the redirects. FYI. Bendono 03:02, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

...should likely be merged, but it seems to me that The Henry Road was developed in such a manner that it does not really warrant a DB, but possibly an AfD, based on notability. The article is a stub yet, but is referenced. I tend to lean away from blanket deleting, particularly article that seem to be made in good faith and with citations. I'm newbie in here, so I'm sorry if I miss the rule. But would you mind removing the picture of "Nikkō Tōshō-gū"? I've never heard that visitors rub "Gyaku-bashira" for their luck, and if it was so, It's not proper to touch to important cultural properties. I'm afraid losing important cultural properties cause many people touched it.

If you feel it's necessary to remove it, please do so. Personally, I think it's a useful illustration. Also, it was not posed; I snapped the photo as I saw a Japanese person, whom I do not know, rub the pillar. So some people do rub the pillar. Thanks for your permission. Just to make sure I asked to the administration of toushouguu. They said of course they don't want "Sakasa-bashira"(I missed pronounce, ashamed!) touched by tourist, but they worry about many caution signboard or surplus security would break atmosphere. and since they use "youmeimon" as the gate when the festival, they can't make fence. so they leave it to tourist's conscience to decide. Do you really think there's much hope for that article? It's a POV, OR essay on an obscure subject. So what do we do now, stick a cleanup tag on it and hope for the best? The real spelling is different from language to language. The spelling of the English word is "ronin" with no macron. The Japanese word is not normally written in the Latin alphabet; it's written using kanji as 浪人. Wikipedia's Hepburn romanization of the Japanese word is rōnin. So when you're writing the English word you omit the the macron; when you're writing the Japanese word in the Wikipedia Hepburn system you include the macron. I agree with Patrick Schwemmer's comment that the vowel length is important in the Japanese word; I renamed (back to what it had been) the article simply to use the English word in the title. The real spelling (in Latin script) is "rōnin". People like to drop diacritics when writing English. That is the only issue here. Is the word "English"? That depends on the criteria. Although it is not listed in most English dictionaries, you may find "ronin" in Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary. There was a Hollywood movie a few years back with the title "Ronin". As I recall, they needed to define the term in the movie because the English word "ronin" was not English enough to be understood. I seriously doubt the average (or even above average) English speaker would understand the word, even though it can be found in at least one English dictionary. I would be happier if it was titled Rōnin, but I will not push it too much. On the other hand, though, the related article Ronin (student) probably should be Rōnin (student). That meaning and usage of "rōnin" is not found in English dictionaries. Bendono 00:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Heya. Thanks again for your extensive work on this list - I do think it'll come in quite useful in future. I am curious, however, about the romaji readings given for each placename. For many of these, I understand where the "standard" reading comes from, and thus why it would be unusual or unexpected for the actual reading to be the one used. Two examples of these many are Chitose, Hokkaido, which is written as 幌美内 (Poropinai) and Ishinomaki, Miyagi (合戦谷, Kasegai).

However, there are a number (I'm looking primarily at the Okinawan ones, now, only because those are the ones which happened to catch my eye) for which the romaji name given is just as... unexpected or unusual as the actual placename. Tomigusuku (保栄茂), which is given as "Bin" in the romaji column, is one such glaring example - no matter how you parse that, no matter which on/kun readings you use, there's no way that three kanji can together be read "bin", right?

I'm not trying to criticize or attack you, nor do I wish to suggest that you/we should look over every single one on this entire list to make sure they all make sense. I'm just curious if these romaji readings are all taken directly from the Japanese page you translated, or where they come from. Hi I saw that you removed the "Dated prod" template I had placed at Template:Black American ethnicity with an edit summary that "proposed deletion is not for templates."

Despite its name, the article in question is not a template. It was created by a new editor who was trying to make a point (she's making global replacements of "African American" with "Black American") and she cut a chunk of African American and pasted it into a new article she created called Template:Black American ethnicity.

If "Dated prod" isn't the appropriate way to have this article deleted, can you help me? What is? I think this should be a candidate for "speedy deletion" but I couldn't find a reason on that page that described this specific situation.

About Japanese Prefectures: it is so strange to a Japanese that the article says there are 47 pref.. Last night I was watching a quiz show on TV and there was a question like this. What's the total number of 都道府県? 都道府県の数はぜんぶでいくつ？ Of course the the answer is 47. If asked about the number of 県/pref., the answer should be 43. We never merge the 4 units into one as 県/pref. Is it しかたがない when you translate and explain in English about the topic?

I've got an article idea. It's Hollywood stars in Japanese TV commercials. What do you think? Is there anybody who could write it?

Apparently, there were two different men with similar names. The famous man was Akechi Mitsuhide. He was the general of the army that killed Oda Nobunaga. The other man was Akechi Hidemitsu. He was a member of Mitsuhide's family. The Japanese Wikipedia has articles about both men. When you read one of those articles, you will find a box on the left under the toolbox; it says "in other languages." You can click the 日本語 link in that box to read the article in the Japanese Wikipedia.

Since this article has not been submitted there, I removed it from the list, but I encourage you to submit it to WP:PR according to the nomination procedure and list it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan#Peer review requests again. (If, like me, you find editing tables tedious, you probably already know it's easy to copy and paste from an old version.)

Interesting. I wasn't aware of a wait. Maybe that's the time from submission to removal? I think comments come in at various times (or don't come in at all), depending on the interests of the people reading Peer Review, and the one-month figure may be the limit after which they figure there will be no more. Not sure. Why not submit it and see?

I once proposed a system for peer-reviewing by the Japan project, but didn't get any interest, alas.

Hi - What do you think of the revised lead for Tokyo? We had a discussion about this quite a while ago on the talk page, but I don't think anyone actually edited the lead. I am very far from an expert in this area (I've never been to Japan, and don't read or speak Japanese other than one or two words I've picked up from editing here), but I think I understand the situation regarding Tokyo — mostly from comments of yours. I've just proofread on the Japanese grammar page. Is it OK? I found a mistake on the page but don't know what to do. In the adverb section, there's ‘あまり' as an example of nominal adverbs. The meaning in English is not good enough. ‘あまり' is used as too much/many too. Like ‘あまりたくさんあっても……' or ‘あまり大勢、来られても……'. Thinking about the usage, it might be better to use other word as an example. Not entirely sure I understand the question. Are you asking why I linked to the article on the television show? I did that because the television show is about him. So my thinking is that people who read an article about the person might be interested in reading about the television show about him. Hence the link. The article Tokugawa Mitsukuni is on my watchlist, and so when you edited it, linking to a television station in New York City that rebroadcasts the television series, I looked for but didn't see a link to the television series.
