I believe we should label RIAA certifications exactly as RIAA issues them and not make our own judgments on the redundancy inherent in RIAA's own labels. --NrDg 19:32, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

RE: I understand that these are awards developed by the RIAA... what I mean is, when one says "2x platinum", that automatically indicates that an album has gone multi-platinum. Yes that is implied. It is just that RIAA has a very specific definition of Multi-Platinum, it is, to them and to the recipients a different award than Platinum and when we don't use the RIAA terminology we are not accurately reflecting the award RIAA actually issued to the artist. We are not being accurate with what the authoritative source says. If we were just communicating the numbers counted by RIAA it wouldn't matter, but this is more than that. For these reasons I have been using the Multi-Platinum award in articles I've been involved with and usually add a cite to the RIAA database to back it up. I generally revert removal of "Multi-", I won't in this case of course, but just would like to communicate that the "Multi-" designation was not done with a lack of understanding and a hope you would permit it in the future. --NrDg 20:00, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

The term "multi-platinum" by itself can mean 2 million or 20 million, whereas "platinum" indicates a specific amount of shipments. Some Hearts by Carrie Underwood is multi-platinum (true). To be more specific, it is 6x platinum (also true). To say "6x multi-platinum" makes no sense. Ultimately it's not that huge of a deal to me, but it reads horribly grammatically incorrect and I've never seen it written in that way anywhere but on a handful of articles here. - eo (talk) 20:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey Ericorbit , I was just wondering how I can be respected by other Wikipedians and administrators because recently I have started to write sourced articles and try to improve wikipedia. Although sometimes I get my articles wrong and they come accross as being unsourced, I want to be respected and maybe even become an administrator one day. I kind of look up to people like you because you've achieved lots in wikipedia and I just wish that I could do the same. Please can you help me become a good wikipedian?
