Thanks for your response. I was thinking along the lines of 80-20%. I edited the entire article, making 14 edits over three days. That doesn't include a 15th edit implementing the suggestion you made on the article Talk page, nor the two technical edits of placing and removing the GOCEinuse template, etc. I also suggested sharing the credit because I thought you had been pushed out by an overly eager Bot, but I see that the 24-hour limit is stated in the GOCEinuse template documentation. I didn't know about it at the time, though. There is also the matter of whose word count do we use, since the one you started with was probably about 1,000 words greater than mine. A year or two ago it was mentioned on the TV news from Chicago that Mercury would be visible at dusk. I wasn't watching, but my brother told me. I saw it easily. I'm sure other stations across this country and others mentioned it, and millions knew. It wasn't the first apparition for me, either...and it's not difficult to see. Drawing on such common knowledge and experience is not OR, or research at all.

But I know people have been led to believe the opposite through books, so I have included a reference to an excellent viewing opportunity this year. Saros136 (talk) 07:44, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

@Saros136: That still doesn't address whether, or why, being at a higher latitude obscures viewing, since Chicago is south of Ontario. I haven't seen the effect of latitude explained by any books I've consulted. I can only guess that at higher latitudes there is greater atmospheric interference. Hi. In literature "Urdu" means "Camp" and it's an Old Persian word. Urdu=اردو( Persian) as a verb, it is Urdu zadan=اردو زدن(Persian), as a place, it is Urdu guah= اردو گاه (Persian). This language has been formed during King Nader Afshar the conquer who, accupied India. @Hirealthing:I was not the one who reverted your edit at Urdu. That was someone else, an anonymous IP editor. I'm not expert enough to know whether your edit was superior to what was already at the article, so I left your edit unreverted when I reverted most of what the IP editor had written, partly because you had not given an explanation in an edit summary, if I recall correctly I see that you did give an edit summary. Given the contentious nature of editing that article at the moment, I suggest you start a discussion on the article Talk page, if you want to push for the change. I can transclude this discussion onto the Talk page, unless you want to reformulate your arguments. I note that you have not given any reference for your etymology of "Urdu". My Encyclopedia Britannica, under Hindustani Languages, says that Urdu was first used by Indian recruits in the army of the Mughal emperor; so, "camp" certainly sounds plausible. The reasoning for my edit on List of destroyer escorts of the United States Navy was that the corrected name appeared earlier in the list and therefore would be duplicated unless it was removed. I may be wrong, but that's why I did it. welsh (talk) 22:27, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

@Welsh: The DE lists were kept separately as very basic lists; and your removing the misspelled name from the latter, sorted-by-name list meant that it was gone from that list and wouldn't be replaced by, say, automatic duplication from the first, sorted-by-hull-number list, unless there is a mechanism that I'm not aware of. The two lists probably should be merged into one table sortable by either field, and someone started such a table for the latter list. Completion of that job would take some work. @Harisingh123: OK. From your cites, it seems Baraut tehsil is equivalent to Baraut sub-district. At 700,000 plus people though, it shouldn't be regarded as small. I was using the urban figures only for Baraut from the 2011 census. I'm happy to use your figures, if you are sure that the article is referring to what is now regarded as a sub-district. @Dustin V. S.:Thank you for the heads up. I have just corrected the "Civil rights" section back to what it was. However, it did take some doing. I did not replace the three "&nbsp;" 's that you had placed in that section. I think that work would be of low priority, and if you're having to do it in such a painstaking manner that you can't take time to work around other edits in conflict (i.e. I don't think you're using a script), then I think you should reconsider it. The "&nbsp;" is there on the off-chance a day date might become separated from its month during formatting, which would not be a major nuisance and can be corrected ad hoc. dear Dhtwiki,

you asked me to provide sources for my edit on the page "Paris commune". my only source is solid logic! I corrected the date in this sentence:

"The Committee on Public Safety of Raoul Rigault began to make more arrests, usually for treason, intelligence with the enemy, or insults to the Commune. Those arrested included General de Martimprey—almost 80 years old, the governor of the Invalides, alleged to having caused the assassination of revolutionaries in December 1751"

the man is 80 years old and accused of causing the assassination of people 121 years ago!! clearly the century of that dat is wrong: it should be 1851 (just after the suppression of the 1844 revolution). also there was no revolution on Paris in 1751! that's it!

I have reverted part of your deletions. They were referenced and relevant and had I had demonstrated the burden of evidence by supplying reliable sources. I have edited the content more to address your concerns as much as possible and have not returned the same sex marriage stuff as I didn't have time to add the proper references from the original article properly formatted (you beat me to it and deleted before I could correct that) but it actually did have a proper "copied" note for the copy paste, in the edit summary with links. If you still feel the content should not be there or needs more work, please disuss this on the talk page so we may form a consensus or address further concerns. I intend to add additional content in the cultural section on the American Indian and Native Hawaiian cultures as they are both very much part of the American culture.--Mark Miller (talk) 08:25, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

@Mark Miller: Once reverted it is as much, if not more, your job to start a Talk discussion, to see if you can gain consensus to add the material (See WP:BRD). Having sourced information is not all. You have been quickly adding a lot of material to an article that is already considered too long, and I think you should step back for a bit, to let others take it all in. Please understand that is your opinion but you cannot control editors or content over such. It is up to you to have a reason within policy and guidelines when removing content. Size of an article, supposed speed or the amount of content is not a matter for deleting just because you feel it wwas too much to quickly and others should see it. I have been contributing to the article for a while and if consensus is to delete it, I would accept the consensus, but it was actually you that made a unilateral move by deleting sourced content for reasons that are only point of view without any discussion. "The article doesn't exist for you to add whatever you want, leaving it to others to justify taking it down." Yeah actually...it kinda does. This is an encyclopedia anyone can edit and add anything they want that isn't blatant vandalism, false or inaccurate information. It kinda does exist for me and others to add what we want with the proper sources and then...yeah...others do have to justify a reasoning and consensus for deletion.--Mark Miller (talk) 09:11, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Also, as a major contributor to BRD, I feel it important to mention in this case that, per BRD: "Revert an edit if it is not an improvement, and it cannot be immediately fixed by refinement. Consider reverting only when necessary. BRD does not encourage reverting, but recognizes that reverts will happen." Forget the Twitter account and its 62k followers - sources indicate "Karl the Fog" has entered local lexicon as an anthropomorphic nickname. From that SF Weekly article: "A ruined summer picnic is blamed simply on Karl, the name the account holder gave to the fog and the one that has stuck, creeping into the everyday language of San Franciscans". Here are a few more examples: SF Weekly [2], 7x7 [3], The San Francisco Chronicle [4], TripAdvisor [5]. Not going to edit war over this, but the soupy sobriquet is real. @Blackguard SF:"Karl" is not yet a well-known meteorological term, though, and it's use confused me in that context, especially when the wording implied that local residents knew the fog as such, without qualification. The articles you cite don't give credence to popularity beyond online Twitter fans; I don't think it's been shown to be a well-known term. When that sense of the word makes it into the dictionary, or when the TV weatherman says, "It's going to be Karl near the coast.", then you might have some reason to use the term as it was used. My added wording in the article just makes the Twitter origin clear. I really don't think it now belongs at all in that section; maybe in Culture, or maybe someday. @Dthomsen8:I appreciate being considered, but I'm rather ambivalent about having the requisite experience and about how much time it would demand. I apologize for not answering sooner, but I have been mulling it over very indecisively. Perhaps, having the idea in my head, and starting to better acquaint myself with the duties of a coordinator, as well as gaining more experience copy-editing, I'll be more ready to accept a similar invitation come sometime next year. Use of country flag icons in infoboxes is discouraged (MOS:INFOBOXFLAG) unless necessary. It's not necessary to illustrate the bank's Indian affiliation, since that is made clear throughout. Often flag icons are used to show country affiliations of people or entities, where there are many different affiliations to be shown in the same article; or where flags indicate political development, again, when more than one flag is needed.
