User talk:DanTD/Archive. November - December 2009
You're invited!
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, plan for the next stages of projects like Wikipedia at the Library and Wikipedia Loves Landmarks, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, for example particular problems posed by Wikipedia articles about racist and anti-semitic people and movements (see the September meeting's minutes). In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back. You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.
To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list. Re: Florida Railroad Station sourceThanks for telling me about that. I see the book is available on Amazon so that might be an interesting buy. Murjax (talk) 17:35, 6 November 2009 (UTC) Lafayette Big Four depotConfused, what do you mean: is there already an article about it? Nyttend (talk) 02:25, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Cragin and Hermosa Metra stationsI don't know when they opened either. I've tried to find Metra opening dates before for other stations, and all of the older Metra stations are terribly hard to find opening dates for; there aren't any Metra fansites that I know of (I wish there was a Metra equivalent of chicago-l.org), and Metra itself doesn't provide any information. Aside from digging through old news archives or books, I don't know where to get old Metra opening dates. TheCatalyst31 Reaction•Creation 23:52, 16 November 2009 (UTC) Fair use images as iconsDan (I presume? :)), I removed a large number of instances of the Massachusetts Turnpike shield where they were used as icons, at 20px dimensions or less. The guideline at WP:MOSLOGO contains a specific prohibition against the use of copyrighted imagery as icons, "Use of [copyrighted] images as icons is nearly always prohibited". Further, WP:NFG notes a prohibition on using fair use images in gallery/tabular format, the underlying principle being that it fails WP:NFCC #1 replacability concerns and #8 significance. In the case you want to use this icon on New York State Thruway, we already have the words "Massachusetts Turnpike" which is sufficient to convey meaning. I am reverting your re-addition of the iconicized logo and the additional FUR to the image. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:40, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
(also note I am merging discussions to your talk page, so we have it all in one place...I'll follow along here if you have anything else you want to say) --Hammersoft (talk) 14:57, 20 November 2009 (UTC) T&P stationWell, they're not merged. The old structure involved breaking up {{Infobox Station}} into individual components, which diverged significantly over time from the main template. This change brings those boxes back into line with the rest of the encyclopedia. This really needs to happen, for technical reasons if nothing else. Is there something in particular that doesn't look right? Mackensen (talk) 16:12, 21 November 2009 (UTC) Replied on my talk page. Let's centralize there. Mackensen (talk) 16:25, 21 November 2009 (UTC) Ping. The font size on {{Infobox Station}} is larger now and matches other infoboxes. Can we revisit this? Mackensen (talk) 01:04, 26 November 2009 (UTC) I've completed merging all the CTA infoboxes and I'm planning to start on the remaining station/NRHP articles. Any objections? Mackensen (talk) 03:33, 1 December 2009 (UTC) Redirecting articlesHi Dan, I may be able to help (in between moving house). What exactly is it you are trying to do? Give me an example at least. Cheers. --Bermicourt (talk) 15:45, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Pace bus connection linksAfter I started changing the links from "CTA" to "List of Chicago Transit Authority bus routes" on 'L' and Metra station pages you began to do something similar with Pace bus routes. At the time I agreed, but now I'm thinking using List of Pace bus routes might be a better link than Pace (transit). (Okay, so I only just bothered to look for such a page today.) Granted, the list for Pace bus routes is rather primitive in comparison to that for CTA. Additionally, given that any user fixing pages with AWB removes the wikimarkup in the headlines, I'm wondering if the pages should be changed from CTA Bus Connectionsto Bus Connectionseven if there are only connections for the one service at a station. These type already exist for stations with more than one bus service. Lost on Belmont (talk) 03:40, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Please help the U.S. Roads WikiProject! For 2010, the U.S. Roads WikiProject is working on reducing the number of stubs in the project. We are not focusing on writing new articles such as state-detail or county, secondary articles. We have articles on several critical topics that need to be expanded and cleaned up. Please help our project by expanding our existing articles. You can find more on our anti-stub initiative at Wikipedia:USRD/B#New_anti-stub_initiative.
