Attention: I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. If you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page—my talk page—as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist and topic subscriptions to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere.
Southpoint Park, where we held Wiknics in 2019 and 2024
You are invited to the picnic anyone can edit on Roosevelt Island, at Southpoint Park. Please dress for the weather and bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating; we will be having this picnic on the grass. Bring some potluck as well as some board games to add to the fun!
The Members' Meeting is similar to other WikiWednesday meetups, except that its primary function is to elect new members to the Board of Directors. We will elect three board seats – half of the elected seats on the board – and the elected board can appoint up to five more board members. As part of the Members Meeting, we will also focus on the Wikimedia NYC Programs Plan for the coming year, our Financial Report, and Annual and Monthly event teams for the coming year.
Election info:
To run for election or to vote, you must be a dues-paying member of Wikimedia New York City, having renewed in the past 12 months.
Voting will be both online, via emailed ballots from the ElectionBuddy service, and in-person.
The poll will be open for the 48 hours between 8pm EDT on September 8 and 8pm EDT on September 10.
For additional information, please consult the Election FAQ.
@Indefensible: I saw your comment in the AfD and agree that something odd was happening there, especially with the SPAs. However, sockpuppetry is not the only possible explanation; it could be a simple case of canvassing in Discord or another chatroom, hence my closing note that AfD is not a straw poll. But it might be worth revisiting or digging deeper if it happens again (i.e., if the same group votes together again at other AfDs, or engages in another kind of disruptive behavior). It might be a WP:MEAT case among college students, e.g. a class at UT Austin. The 2 IP accounts both seem to be in Austin. However I am not an expert on how to handle these investigations. Will defer for now but keep an eye out. - Indefensible (talk) 03:29, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
An RfC is open on whether use of emojis with no encyclopedic value in mainspace and draftspace (e.g., at the start of paragraphs or in place of bullet points) should be added as a criterion under G15.
An RfC is in progress to amend the structure, rules, and procedures of the Arbitration Committee election and resolve any issues not covered by existing rules.
