I readded the information because 1) I think it's relevant and 2) It's done this way for other royal families. When you look for a person's bio, you expect to find all the information about them, including if they married and had children. To put that information in another page is, in my view, both impractical and illogical. Most people will think the information is lacking, instead of thinking it may be on the family page. If you don't want to add the extended family (i.e. only the children's names and not the grandchildren) that's OK, but I think the children, with optional links to their articles if they exist, are necessary. --Andromeda 18:33, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

No, it's the same mountain as the one in Maryland. It's clearly visible from Gettysburg to the west and the NPS rangers there refer to it as such. Hal Jespersen 19:25, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

I have no personal knowledge of the area, so I'm just going by the atlas. There seems to be more than a little scope for confusion over this name. According to Encarta & Multimap, there's a South Mountain PA about 10 miles a little North of West from Gettysburg (and about 8 miles SE of Chambersburg). This must be the South Mountain that's mentioned in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (The Borough of Gettysburg ... sits in the shadow of South Mountain, eight miles west of the town). And it must surely be the South Mountain that's mentioned in Gettysburg Battlefield (To the northwest, a series of low, parallel ridges lead to the towns of Cashtown and Chambersburg. Seminary Ridge, .... Farther out are McPherson's Ridge, Herr's Ridge, and eventually South Mountain).

According to Battle of South Mountain, South Mountain is the name given to the continuation of the Blue Ridge Mountains after they enter Maryland. It is a natural obstacle that separates the Shenandoah Valley and Cumberland Valley from the eastern part of Maryland. And certainly South Mountain PA is part of a range of hills that to the northwest connects to the Blue Ridge mountains and to the south extends into MD. So it seems to me that we sort of have two places, because South Mountain PA is a specific peak (mentioned in the Gettysburg articles) in a range which becomes known as South Mountain in MD (where the battle took place). Well, I wrote both of those articles (at different times), so maybe my wording got out of sync. When the rangers at Gettysburg NMP point to the west, they are definitely referring to a mountain range when they say "South Mountain", not a town. Perhaps it is not literally true that the range that extends north from MD is called SM after it crosses the border, but that's what the local Civil War historians call it and that's good enough for me. I know you have made them entirely in good faith, but your changes to Ten Commandments were not positive, but in many respects problematic. I suggest you go and clean up the trail of mess you may have made. In particular:

• You added extra |s to two thumbnail links. This did nothing- not harmful, but also not useful. [[Image:Ten_Commandments_Monument.jpg|thumb|right|250px|The Ten Commandments on a monument in the grounds of the Texas State Capitol]] does the same as [[Image:Ten_Commandments_Monument.jpg|thumb|right|250px|The Ten Commandments on a monument in the grounds of the Texas State Capitol]]
• You changed {{bibleverse-nb||Exodus|20:2-17|HE}} to {{bibleverse-nb|Exodus||20:2-17|HE}} and similar. The link still works fine, but it disagrees with the usage described at Template talk:Bibleverse.
• You changed {{bibleverse|2|Corinthians|5:17|}} to {{bibleverse|2|Corinthians||5:17|}}. This was incorrect and broke the link. In particular, the first argument to the {{bibleverse}} and {{bibleverse-nb}} templates is the book number and the second is the book name. While, for all intents and purposes, they can be switched around, you can't just add an extra | after the name. This breaks the link.
• You changed [[613 mitzvot|613 commandments]] to [[613 mitzvot||613 commandments]]. This, too, shows incorrectly as |613 commandments.

I realise that you didn't quite understand the argument structure of the bibleverse template, and so went out to change them, but (1) if it ain't broken, don't fix it (2) some of your other changes were a little careless.

Additionally, while I thank you for giving an edit summary, "links" wasn't clear to me. It could mean you were adding to / changing the external links. It could mean you were wikifying an article by adding wikilinks to plain text. It could mean you were disambiguating wikilinks. It could mean you were fixing broken wikilinks. It could mean you were fixing link formatting, and even that has many flavours. If you specified "fixing wikilinks" or at least "wikilinks" in the edit summary, it would be much clearer at least to me.

You are quite right. This must have been a recent change in the software and I'm going to take it up with the developers. Still, the biggest problem is that you broke bibleverse links for references where a book number was specified. For instance, in Ten Commandments, I had to fix 3 links to Kings and one to Corinthians. Please go back and find these, if you can... jnothman ^talk 11:36, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

The annoying thing is that no idiot changed the template. Someone changed the software that runs Wikipedia. Brion, the head developer of MediaWiki, said that "apparently due to a misinterpretation of what one of our parser tests meant". So it's a pity, but there's not really anyone to blame. Rather, we need to fix it sooner rather than later, because a revert is easiest done before any further changes. jnothman ^talk 23:08, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

I am going through and fixing them up. The only article I haven't dealt with (because it's had too many changes since) is Sabbath. This still may have mistakes with book numbers (and I also found other mistakes where you over-fixed).

Although I scanned the differences quickly, in general, I rolled back your changes in case I missed something (sometimes you had changed the || to |, but forgot to reinsert it). If you or others had made additional changes, I edited the page to keep them. In some cases I kept all your changes.

Thanks for having been ambitious and bold in the first place. It would have been worthwhile to leave a note at Template talk:Bibleverse that something was strange. Further, you could have arranged for a bot / script to make the changes for you, saving you a lot of time and error. But they're just notes for the future. I think we're fine otherwise.

I actually did use them in a couple of cases, but in other cases the comment seemed to be sort of generic even though the topic was in Switzerland or France. The hard part of what I was doing was keeping the difference between Guangdong and Guangzhou straight. thanks for pointing that out. It's an interesting way of using pipes, although it is rather fragile as people like me can come along, not notice the subtle distinction being made, and compact the links.

I would have thought HTML comments might be more suitable for this kind of to-do note.

In any event, I'll hold off from doing any more compacting on these articles.

Howdy, I noticed that you and I seem to post in one or two articles dealing with progressive issues in political science/sociology. There's currently a debate beginning in Boston Tea Party as to whether the article should include the category [1]. It meets definitions set in the articles Terrorism and Definition of terrorism, however, there are several self-proclaimed patriots who watch BTP who refuse to recognise the fact. The simple criteria for terrorism generally seem to be intimidation or destruction of property in order to change public policy or public opinion while a state of war has not yet been declared. Some users would rather use recent acts of terrorism as a yardstick, rather than using a firm definition, and hence lose their ability to discuss matters calmly. The question is, what's the alternative? Linking directly to the county neither of us specifically wants to send it is definitely worse; at least the mere redirect may become usefull if anyone does write Ingrid. That leaves either the 'potential' redirect or no link at all, which may be the way to go if you're confident no page is likely to be written on her - frankly I wouldn't know. Before unlinking common temporal words, please be sure that they are not relevant to the article -- in Darian calendar and Christianised calendar, for example, linking to words like "week", "month", and "Saturday" is entirely appropriate. Likewise, "Wednesday" should definitely be linked from Holy Wednesday, as it's an article about a Wednesday. —ptk✰fgs 23:17, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

I think you misunderstand the guideline on this issue. In terms of common words, there are justifications as per that guideline (although it is consensus, not as I said non-consensus) to link to even what you consider to be common words. For instance, you noted one example among the changes you made, to North America. In terms of the church it is entirely appropriate IMO as the church was founded in North America and the customs and cultures are helpful in better understanding the article. You also unlinked Saturday, apparently not noticing that it was the keyword in that sentence, and hence has to be in context. I suggest you back off on your deleting links to common words just because they are common and focus on getting the context of words right. Ansell 00:29, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Greetings; Your significant unlinking of “common words” seems to be overboard in a number of instances; you are delinking items that while on their face may seem “common” may in fact be apropos to the article. I have reviewed the history of changes on the Marfan Syndrome article over the past few weeks and have noticed an occasional graffito is written into the article. The vandals perpetrating these attacks usually do it without logging in, thus leaving no contributor trace. I recommend that whenever any of the responsibly acting contributors log in to do some more editing, first look at the most recent edit. If it is an anonymous edit, just revert the article to the previous edit before doing more edits. Leeirons 13:42, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Regarding your recent edits to this article, your wikification of dates is causing a problem for users with non-default Date and Time settings in My Preferences ... for example, I have Date Format set to the last option, ISO format (2001-01-15T16:12:34) ... set yours like that, and then view the page, noting the section World War I ...

Yeah, that's how it displays if you don't use the default date format; you get a mixture of two different formats when reading or printing the page!! Just a head-up in case you were not aware of the disruption you are creating, well-intended as it may have been ... you might want to try experimenting with the different preference settings for dates and see how your changes have affected the readability of other articles ... remember, "Just because you can do something does not always mean that you should do it." --72.75.84.93 23:14, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm just a little confused as to how the Karlson & McKenzie article (of which I am the principal author) is "uncategorized".

Please let me know how this is so.

In my opinion, the article is pretty clearly divided up into individual sections about each person and/or aspect on the show (e.g., "Kevin Karlson", "Braden P. Moriarty", "10 Seconds of Radio Rage", etc.)

I'm just puzzled about this tag, is all.

I'm sorry for that. I don't quite know what happened, but I never saw your edit. I wanted to revert the edit before you, by the editor from 70.45.97.20 which linked pseudo. Usually, one gets an edit conflict when this happens, but I either never got this because of some subtle and rare software glitch, or I somehow clicked past it without noticing. It happened once to me before.

Hi, I just recreated a page for Brandon Buddy (Cole Thornhart) of One Life to Live, which apparently has been previously deleted at least once due to "lack of notability." Obviously, he is a new actor, but his status as a contract player on OLTL makes him notable, no? Again, yesterday, you have unwikified some years, this time in National Public Radio. Your edit summary cites WP:DATE as being the reason, however that page (at least in my reading) doesn't appear to advocate unlinking years. In fact, it contains the following quote:

Some editors believe that links to years are generally useful to establish context for the article. Others believe that links to years are rarely useful to the reader and reduce the readability of the text.

I'm in the "some editors" camp and would guess that you're in the "others" category of that quote. Given that (to what I see) there is no Wikipedia consensus or guideline, my problem isn't with the edit, just the reasoning given. - Cafemusique 05:54, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

The first stub template must be double-spaced from the rest of the content or it will but up against the content (this looks especially hideous when the end of the content is a nav template) when the page is rendered. Well, you got me there. Didn't know what to think. So, I went back and checked a lot of edit histories (shabbily done, though, as much possible from a cell phone handset). And, I learned two valuable things:

• There is an awful lot of date-linking across all articles, including a fair amount of GA, A and FA status articles.
• You've been at the job of removing those silly links from loads articles for quite some time now. Hell of a good job, a bit thankless though.

What I could not find was a guideline or at least an essay on what to do to those date-links. May be it needs to be taken to the Pump and eventually policy discussions, and get a few more editors dedicating time to remove this kind of crap, while weilding a tool to guide other editors to a proper behavior regarding the matter. There is one specific guy with the IP 76.105.187.236 that resets other users contributions on the articles regarding the terms "eurodance" and "eurotrance"

The reason I post to you, is because you contributed to the "eurotrance" articles. You fixed typos, etc, just 2 days before this fellow revert the article without any discussion to a before form (and at the same time called the brits "Idiots" - The funny thing is that I'm not even from UK...)

I'm the one that contributed the version you fixed my typos (and thank you for this, because as you probably understand, my english needs help!

As a newbie on wikipedia, I don't know where to talk about the subject and I don't know how to handle it. I saw your name on the contributions and I contact you for help of any kind or to link me somewhere to read what to do.

Of course, my knowledge of English grammar is not so good, but my objection was mainly related to the fact that you changed word "names" into "name", which totally changed the meaning of the sentence (it is not only one name, but several names that we speak about). Enclosed is a map of census divisions (so, counties/ regions / cities), and colour coded to show how are we doing in different parts of the Golden Horseshoe, and how much articles are written. Over the summer, I will create another similar one. The white parts of the map means that we will start to work on these areas, after the expansion of the project. (So, that is, after the creation of WP:QCWC (WikiProject Quebec City-Windsor Corridor).

On the Spokane Shock page, you added links on the dates on the schedule. My only question is, why would anyone reading about a football team care what happened on the same date as one of their games?

(Replying here because you didn't sign your post) The reason for linking the dates isn't so that anyone can click on them, it's to allow readers' date preferences to work. See WP:DATE#Dates containing a month and a day in the Manual of Style for an explanation. I am relatively new to wikipedia. The only thing I've edited before is the article about Wilson Chandler, and I saw you edited it alson once or twice. I clicked the link to your user page from the "Wilson Chandler edit history" page and now you're startest and most knowledgable Wikipedian I know. So I thought you might be able to help me with something. About the Wilson Chandler article, I uploaded that image of him dunking which looks really cool but I know absolutly nothing on the copyright information or anything about copyright at all (unfortunately). Wikipedia gave me a message saying they would delete the picture by July 10th because it doesn't have a copyright tag or something. So if you could help with this topic before July 10th that would be great!! And if I wrote this message in the wrong place, I'm sorry. When you edit pages that other people have created to put links on dates, please could you think about the effect on tables. It is rather useful if date entries in tables fit on one line. Just wondering, per your edit to American Quarter Horse Association why you feel there is a need to wikilink every single date within an article, even the dates in footnotes. Seems silly to me. Also, for space and other practical reasons, WikiProject Comics policy and editorial guidelines is to use long-month abbreviations when giving comic-book cover-dates. This falls under WikiProject Comics editorial guidelines (Aug. 1964; Oct. 1969). Parenthetical references, several of which appear in each comics article, represent limited space, as per WP:MOS. I really appreciate your work on tidying up the articles. I can be somewhat careless with spelling.

Could we agree a treatment of the links to other articles though. I put them as I did because it makes navigation much easier. I read the pages you referred to in the 1750 - 1880 edit summary and cd only see a reference re duplication of links to other articles. I couldn't see anything suggesting that the navigation boxes at the top are not desireable. Perhaps before yu changing it again you could guide me to the WP which you are acting under.

Thanks for your answer. In my opinion, the best translation of Romanian "comună" is "rural municipality". In fact, a "comună" is the smallest administrativ unit with its own mayor, in a rural area. It can include several villages and it has an elected local council which can establish local laws and collect local taxes. I see no reason to introduce a Romanian word in an English language encyclopedia. An English-speaking person will not benefit if he will learn one Romanian word. Either learn enough words to have a conversation in Romanian, either don't bother. There is nothing special and untranslatable about the smallest Romanian administrative units. I saw also in Romanian Wikipedia people pretending that administrative units in foreign countries are so special that we need special words for them, but I wasn't convinced, and I don't like the pollution of Romanian language with unnecesarry loanwords. Likewise, I don't see any advantage of polluting English language with loanwords if we can find an acceptable translation.--MariusM (talk) 23:03, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Have deleted some ordinary words (student, industry) as you suggested. "Motto" is not so ordinary in my judgement. Other words directly relate to the subject ("course"), so that I think they may be linked. "Belgium" appears for the second time in the History section, but the link fits with the sentence ("The history of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel is closely linked with that of Belgium itself."). Hey...theres a vandal whose attacked the Thampi and Ettuveetil Pillamar articles and reverted them to and old vandalised form with offensive words like "thevathichi" (prostitute) instead of woman. In the Ettuveetil article the vandal calls them "Ettuveetil Pattimar" (the 8 dogs) etc. This has happened before and he is only reverting to the vandalised form. Do help. Hi, I noticed that you went through and changed all references in this article so that they no longer preceded punctuation marks, but now followed the punctuation. The article in question was consistently referenced in the former style. I personally I think the latter style is ugly as it removes references from the relevant parts of a sentence. WP MOS has no preference on this and accepts both styles. Were you using AWB? If so is it possible to turn this feature off? IMHE it makes it impossible to do a proof read of the changes. I want to ask a question about your recent edit of Emperor Nijō of Japan, but it may take a few tries for me to get it right. I think I'm not really sure what my question should be -- not yet anyway.

I do know that at the bottom of every Wiki-article, there must be a category notation -- and there is a similar protocol for Wikipedias in other languages. Sometimes I discover piping in these categories -- sometimes not. I'm in the process of creating new pages for en:Japanese era name, fr:Ères du japon, etc. ....

Your edit here introduced an error into the article—you turned [[7 July 2005 London bombing]] into [[7 July]] [[2005]] London bombing]], which not only destroyed the link, but also renders incorrectly to boot. The error stood for nearly a year; it's possible that the old parser was able to make sense of it, but even if that is the case, you substantively changed the target of the link, and ever since the parser changed, the page has been incorrect.
