Wiki linkingWhen you make an internal link, you need to make sure not to put spaces before or after the "pipe" character:
Do you see the difference? I'm posting this here because I've seen you make the same edit a few times now. Please let me know if you have any questions. :-) --nihon 22:13, 29 November 2005 (UTC) LiechtensteinThe link to the Princely Family of Liechtenstein is a redirect to Prince Hans-Adam II's page. Are you planning on making a new Princely Family page? Prsgoddess187 19:39, 11 January 2006 (UTC) Never mind, now the link is working, darn this Internet Explorer!!! Prsgoddess187 19:40, 11 January 2006 (UTC) I saw the change earlier and it was a bad redirect back to Hans Adam. Looks good now. Good work. Prsgoddess187 00:00, 12 January 2006 (UTC) More LiechtensteinI readded the information because 1) I think it's relevant and 2) It's done this way for other royal families. When you look for a person's bio, you expect to find all the information about them, including if they married and had children. To put that information in another page is, in my view, both impractical and illogical. Most people will think the information is lacking, instead of thinking it may be on the family page. If you don't want to add the extended family (i.e. only the children's names and not the grandchildren) that's OK, but I think the children, with optional links to their articles if they exist, are necessary. --Andromeda 18:33, 17 January 2006 (UTC) WhyWhy you removed the Liechtenstein template? Why Prince Phillpp's page will be redict to the Princely Family of Liechtenstein?Astorkknlam16:30 18 January 2006(UTC) RedirectsI see that an anonymous message was left on my page, which I have managed to trace to you. I accept your point and have no intention of having an edit war over it, but I was surprised to see categories on redirect pages. Also, you should have added Category:Living people on each page. - Runcorn 12:42, 4 February 2006 (UTC) South MountainNo, it's the same mountain as the one in Maryland. I note you restored date sorting on "July 1". I understand your point but it was already addressed earlier in the article. Doesn't it only need to be done the first time the date appears in the article? Regards, Accurizer 13:14, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Sexton BlakeThanks for improving the article. ant_ie 12:54, 23 February 2006 (UTC) BibleverseI know you have made them entirely in good faith, but your changes to Ten Commandments were not positive, but in many respects problematic. I suggest you go and clean up the trail of mess you may have made. In particular:
I realise that you didn't quite understand the argument structure of the bibleverse template, and so went out to change them, but (1) if it ain't broken, don't fix it (2) some of your other changes were a little careless. Additionally, while I thank you for giving an edit summary, "links" wasn't clear to me. It could mean you were adding to / changing the external links. It could mean you were wikifying an article by adding wikilinks to plain text. It could mean you were disambiguating wikilinks. It could mean you were fixing broken wikilinks. It could mean you were fixing link formatting, and even that has many flavours. If you specified "fixing wikilinks" or at least "wikilinks" in the edit summary, it would be much clearer at least to me. Finally, I want to welcome you to the community of editors, and hope to continue to see more of your good contributions around! jnothman talk 11:09, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
I am going through and fixing them up. The only article I haven't dealt with (because it's had too many changes since) is Sabbath. This still may have mistakes with book numbers (and I also found other mistakes where you over-fixed). Although I scanned the differences quickly, in general, I rolled back your changes in case I missed something (sometimes you had changed the || to |, but forgot to reinsert it). If you or others had made additional changes, I edited the page to keep them. In some cases I kept all your changes. Thanks for having been ambitious and bold in the first place. It would have been worthwhile to leave a note at Template talk:Bibleverse that something was strange. Further, you could have arranged for a bot / script to make the changes for you, saving you a lot of time and error. But they're just notes for the future. I think we're fine otherwise. jnothman talk 23:43, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

I actually did use them in a couple of cases, but in other cases the comment seemed to be sort of generic even though the topic was in Switzerland or France. The hard part of what I was doing was keeping the difference between Guangdong and Guangzhou straight. Re: Communes of the Oise département and othersHi Chris, thanks for pointing that out. It's an interesting way of using pipes, although it is rather fragile as people like me can come along, not notice the subtle distinction being made, and compact the links. I would have thought HTML comments might be more suitable for this kind of to-do note. In any event, I'll hold off from doing any more compacting on these articles. There's currently a debate beginning in Boston Tea Party as to whether the article should include the category [1]. It meets definitions set in the articles Terrorism and Definition of terrorism, however, there are several self-proclaimed patriots who watch BTP who refuse to recognise the fact. The simple criteria for terrorism generally seem to be intimidation or destruction of property in order to change public policy or public opinion while a state of war has not yet been declared. Some users would rather use recent acts of terrorism as a yardstick, rather than using a firm definition, and hence lose their ability to discuss matters calmly. Would you be able to pop in to the Talk page and join in the discussion? Thanks much, samwaltz 05:32, 22 August 2006 (UTC) (Ingrid) DahlbergThe question is, what's the alternative? Linking directly to the county neither of us specifically wants to send it is definitely worse; at least the mere redirect may become usefull if anyone does write Ingrid. That leaves either the 'potential' redirect or no link at all, which may be the way to go if you're confident no page is likely to be written on her - frankly I wouldn't know. Fastifex 05:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC) Netley AbbeyThankyou very much for your cleaning up of the formatting and links on the Netley Abbey article. It's much appreciated; I'm new to writing for wikipedia and I'm not yet au fait with some of the mark-up. Best regards, Faeriesoph unlinking temporal wordsBefore unlinking common temporal words, please be sure that they are not relevant to the article -- in Darian calendar and Christianised calendar, for example, linking to words like "week", "month", and "Saturday" is entirely appropriate. Likewise, "Wednesday" should definitely be linked from Holy Wednesday, as it's an article about a Wednesday. —ptk✰fgs 23:17, 20 September 2006 (UTC) unlinking on Seventh-day Adventist ChurchI think you misunderstand the guideline on this issue. In terms of common words, there are justifications as per that guideline (although it is consensus, not as I said non-consensus) to link to even what you consider to be common words. For instance, you noted one example among the changes you made, to North America. In terms of the church it is entirely appropriate IMO as the church was founded in North America and the customs and cultures are helpful in better understanding the article. You also unlinked Saturday, apparently not noticing that it was the keyword in that sentence, and hence has to be in context. I suggest you back off on your deleting links to common words just because they are common and focus on getting the context of words right. Ansell 00:29, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Word delinkingGreetings; Your significant unlinking of “common words” seems to be overboard in a number of instances; you are delinking items that while on their face may seem “common” may in fact be apropos to the article. Also, in general I prefer to see and abundance of linking, makes for richer exploration. Bdelisle 08:27, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Re: American Gods - (un)linking WednesdayThanks for your message about AG. Marfan Syndrome Article Graffiti AttacksI have reviewed the history of changes on the Marfan Syndrome article over the past few weeks and have noticed an occasional graffito is written into the article. The vandals perpetrating these attacks usually do it without logging in, thus leaving no contributor trace. I recommend that whenever any of the responsibly acting contributors log in to do some more editing, first look at the most recent edit. If it is an anonymous edit, just revert the article to the previous edit before doing more edits. Leeirons 13:42, 19 December 2006 (UTC) Hello ... Regarding your recent edits to this article, your wikification of dates is causing a problem for users with non-default Date and Time settings in My Preferences ... for example, I have Date Format set to the last option, ISO format (2001-01-15T16:12:34) ... set yours like that, and then view the page, noting the section World War I ... Yeah, that's how it displays if you don't use the default date format; you get a mixture of two different formats when reading or printing the page!! Just a head-up in case you were not aware of the disruption you are creating, well-intended as it may have been ... you might want to try experimenting with the different preference settings for dates and see how your changes have affected the readability of other articles ... remember, "Just because you can do something does not always mean that you should do it." --72.75.84.93 23:14, 2 January 2007 (UTC) Hamlet WatlingDear Colonies Chris, Hi, I noticed you dropped by this article on Hamlet Watling and made an adjustment - thanks! Invitation to a WikiProjectHi Colonies Chris, Thank you so much for "cleaning up" after me for my spelling and grammar errors! You have corrected spelling and grammar for various articles, such as York Regional Road 67 and York Regional Road 1. I am here, on behalf of other members of WP:GHR, to invite you to join our WikiProject Golden Horseshoe Roads. We want to invite you to be our "clean-up counselor", which means that you may help us to wikify our articles, fix typos, and most of all grammars and spelling mistakes. We think that you are very capable of this position because you are proficient in correcting grammar mistakes and proofreading (according to your contribution). P.S. : If you do not know what the term Golden Horseshoe means, read its article. Also, the newsletter of this WikiProject will be delivered by mid-February (Myself, and Ilovevancouver90909, are busy with exams right now.) One more thing, we are currently working on regional roads, landmarks, and communities articles right now. Please let me know if you have made your decision! We need your help! I thought the talk page is where users can talk with other users. VitaminPat 02:41, 8 July 2007 (UTC) Edit to WP:AWP/TypoLooking at this diff you seem to have overwritten my 'prison' entry. Would you restore the entry if that's the case? Thanks Rjwilmsi 17:36, 26 July 2007 (UTC) Editing DatesWhen you edit pages that other people have created to put links on dates, please could you think about the effect on tables. It is rather useful if date entries in tables fit on one line. Your well-intentioned edits make work for other people, who either need to revert what you have done, or re-edit the tables so they fit once more.--Toddy1 19:51, 25 July 2007 (UTC) AfD nomination of FeriteAn article that you have been involved in editing, Ferite, has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ferite. Thank you. -- Dominus 20:47, 11 August 2007 (UTC) Wikilinking EVERY date?Just wondering, per your edit to American Quarter Horse Association why you feel there is a need to wikilink every single date within an article, even the dates in footnotes. Seems silly to me. Where is the wikipedia guideline or policy that says we need to do this? Perhaps major significant historical dates, but ALL of them? Seems rather excessive. AFD:Reginald James MacGregorI have nominated the page for deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Reginald James MacGregor for the discussion. We're currently discussing this your edit here. We need clarification of what may caused such change - software bug or incorrect settings. Could you comment on this? Cheers. Dexar KariffHe does not exist, being a user you should have opted to deleting fanon. This article is fanon, and should be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperSaiyaMan (talk • contribs) 21:57, 30 September 2007 (UTC) learn portugueseI'm trying to get as many users to watch my user page (which will automatically also watch my talk page), 'cause I'm real interestd in learning Portuguese. I'm a native speaker of English. :) I also want to learn European Spanish. learnportuguese 00:17, 4 October 2007 (UTC) DMCShey, i was just wondering, i noticed you edited the DMCS (Des Moines Christian School) article the other day, did you by chance go there? user:colbuckshot
your John Wayne editsI'm curious. Every style manual I've checked suggests that standard American usage is for commas to be enclosed within the final quotation marks. What's your indicator for different usage? Monkeyzpop 21:37, 15 October 2007 (UTC) Thanks for your help
Harringay articlesI really appreciate your work on tidying up the articles. I can be somewhat careless with spelling. Could we agree a treatment of the links to other articles though. I put them as I did because it makes navigation much easier. I read the pages you referred to in the 1750 - 1880 edit summary and cd only see a reference re duplication of links to other articles. I couldn't see anything suggesting that the navigation boxes at the top are not desireable. Perhaps before yu changing it again you could guide me to the WP which you are acting under. Thanks. hjuk (talk) 17:03, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
AWB typosI've reverted one of your changes to the typo file (presdients --> presidents) - there's something buggy in the parsing but I can't work out what it is, so have removed it altogether for the moment to stop the spellcheck crashing — iridescent 17:22, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
ThankyouThankyou very much for helping to clear up the PIRES page for Loughborough University. As usual this was a spur of the moment thing that was written at a ridiculous time in the morning. Again, I thankyou. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.231.223.99 (talk) 10:45, 30 November 2007 (UTC) ComunăHi Chris, I don't understand why you changed the word "commune" with Romanian "comună" at several articles about Romanian communes. I am Romanian, but I believe that in English Wikipedia we should use English language.--MariusM (talk) 19:22, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
WikilinksHi Colonies Chris, can you explain why you have rmoved all these wikilinks from the page "Vrije Universiteit Brussel"? PhiRho (talk) 19:36, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
How do i block this vandal??Hey...theres a vandal whose attacked the Thampi and Ettuveetil Pillamar articles and reverted them to and old vandalised form with offensive words like "thevathichi" (prostitute) instead of woman. In the Ettuveetil article the vandal calls them "Ettuveetil Pattimar" (the 8 dogs) etc. This has happened before and he is only reverting to the vandalised form. Do help. His id is User_talk:കമ്പിതഗാത്രം Thanks, Manu —Preceding comment was added at 09:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC) Hi, Can you look at your report? Input needed please! —Reedy Boy 00:17, 16 January 2008 (UTC) RE: AWBI was just going through all the articles in one category to clean them up. Didn't know I was to avoid minor edits now, but I've barely used the thing in ages. I thought that was the point of the thing? It wasn't like that when I was signed up for it, and I didn't get the updated newsletter. Thanks for letting me k-now. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 14:10, 25 January 2008 (UTC) Trams in LondonHi, I noticed that you went through and changed all references in this article so that they no longer preceded punctuation marks, but now followed the punctuation. The article in question was consistently referenced in the former style. I personally I think the latter style is ugly as it removes references from the relevant parts of a sentence. WP MOS has no preference on this and accepts both styles. Were you using AWB? If so is it possible to turn this feature off? IMHE it makes it impossible to do a proof read of the changes. Thanks, Ephebi (talk) 13:54, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
RE:AzulaWow, that's really odd. When I was monitoring it I must have read it wrong and thought it was going the other way and missed the extra n. I can't find any regex on the typo page at the moment that could have caused it to do that; I'll post a note on the talk page. Thanks for letting me know.--Dycedarg ж 21:18, 28 January 2008 (UTC) Emperor Nijō of JapanI want to ask a question about your recent edit of Emperor Nijō of Japan, but it may take a few tries for me to get it right. I think I'm not really sure what my question should be -- not yet anyway. I do know that at the bottom of every Wiki-article, there must be a category notation -- and there is a similar protocol for Wikipedias in other languages. Sometimes I discover piping in these categories -- sometimes not. I'm in the process of creating new pages for en:Japanese era name, fr:Ères du japon, etc. .... Just a tipWhen you edit the typo page, just edit the section that needs editing, not the whole page. It'll save bandwidth for you and for the whole wikipedia! Ha-ha!--BillFlis 00:16, 1 September 2007 (UTC) I guess I'm wondering why you modified "[Category:Emperors of Japan|Nijō]"? How did you know you were doing the right thin? Can you guess what that someone might have been thinking when he or she first contrived what you have now seen fit to modify? Why? Ooperhoofd 20:35, 18 August 2007 (UTC) Thanks for the edits. P.S. I fixed a header on your talk page so it will line up correctly.
