Thanks for writing so many baseball articlesThanks for writing so many baseball articles! Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball can always use the help. I thought Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles might give you a few hints for making the articles even better. Again, thanks for the efforts!--Kathy A. 22:36, 3 June 2007 (UTC) Re: Scat Metha deletionA tag has been placed on Scat Metha, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Eliz81 04:41, 23 June 2007 (UTC) Hi there, and thanks for your comments. I didn't actually delete the article, I only recommended it for deletion because it seemed like a person who played not even a full season over 50 years ago was not notable enough for the biography. I noticed that you have done a lot of new page adds for baseball players that are very thorough, and I commend you for all your hard work on that. If Scat Metha is truly a notable person who meets Wiki Baseball or sports bio guidelines for notability, I suggest you send the relevant information to the administrator who performed the delete, User:Tyrenius (you can see the log of the delete here). If you could sign the user talk page with four tildes (~) after your name, that would be great. Let me just restate that my nomination for deletion was completely specific to Scat Metha and not your other articles. I know you're working hard to make Wikipedia a better place. Let me know if I can be of any more help. Eliz81 09:59, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Edit summariesWhen editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this: The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature. Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. -- No Guru 18:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC) re: Ralph YoungYou are welcome! ;-) --Aarktica 22:05, 8 July 2007 (UTC) My guess is that he accidentally nixed the full text. The edit summary referred to the unecessary reference and not the rest of the text. To be honest, I don't think that editor was the problem. Long levi 08:43, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
DYK--Peta 03:20, 23 August 2007 (UTC) 1935 Tigers ArticleHi there. I have been expanding several articles for the Blue Jays seasons and I started creating articles for the Braves and Expos seasons and I just wanted to say that your 1935 Tigers article is superlative. This is a very well done article. It is nicely detailed and well researched. You have definitely given me some creative inspiration. Maple Leaf 17:21, 14 September 2007 (UTC) See also/season templatesInstead of adding things like 1968 Detroit Tigers season in the "see also" section (which should ideally be absent/empty), might it be preferable to include the link in templates such as Template:1968 Detroit Tigers? It's certainly a more natural place for users to seek that material, and I don't think we want player articles cluttered with numerous season articles in the 'see also' section. MisfitToys 23:27, 14 September 2007 (UTC) The Animals articlesGood job creating articles on The Animals' albums and songs. Please be careful about the requirements of music-related articles: album titles go in italics, song titles go in double quotes, songs don't get wikilinked unless there's actually an article for them, album and song articles always have at least two categories (for year and group), and article title disambiguation, when necessary, uses "The Animals" and not just "Animals". If you look at some of the changes I've made to the articles you created, you'll see what I mean. And kudos again for creating these, they have long been missing and it's good to have them here. Wasted Time R 22:51, 14 October 2007 (UTC) Michigan Wolverines FootballGood work with {{Michigan Wolverines Football}}. I added Mike Kenn. Michigan WolverinesGood job on the template and the page for important seasons but you are incorrectly wikilinking some people. For exaple, for the 1902 team it links to James Lawrence the american naval hero, not football player. Make sure to check the links. Happy editing. michfan2123 (talk) 18:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Michigan Football player articlesYou seem to have access to some serious Michigan Football resources that I don't have. We could rack up a bunch of WP:DYKs and WP:GA working together. You may want to check out the {{cite web}} and {{cite book}} templates. I am going to start cleaning up the articles you just sent me. I would appreciate it if you could add any info you may have access to on Greg Skrepenak, Tyrone Wheatley, Jon Vaughn, Al Wistert, Albert Wistert, Whitey Wistert, Mercury Hayes, and Ricky Powers. Several of these are up for consideration at WP:GAC right now. Skrepenak is especially high in the queue. If you add info try to use the templates above like the rest of the references in the article so I don't get dinged for being sloppy with the refs. I am having great difficulty finding info on Whitey Wistert's Michigan Baseball performance that won him the Big Ten MVP. Any help here would be great toward a future GA nomination.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 19:22, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Julius FranksI put a lot of tags on the Julius Franks article. I hope you will be able to say what came from where within the next few days because I am going to nominate this for the WP:DYK feature of the main page. It needs to be cleaned up by the 5th day which is the 1st of December to make the main page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 00:11, 27 November 2007 (UTC) Chris HutchinsonBased on my experience at WP:AFD Hutchinson is a borderline case. I have watched Duke basketball players get AFDed. Irons is O.K. There is more to him than being an All-American that non Michiganders would care about. I don't know how loose things are going to get, but I had a McDonald's All-American headed for Georgetown AFDed. I am just saying be careful. I suppose with our template all UM All-Americans may be kept by association with each other. I am just not so confident about Hutchinson. I am not going to nominate him for DYK because I don't want to call attention to his article. I am not certain it would survive.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 01:45, 27 November 2007 (UTC) DYK--WjBscribe 09:54, 27 November 2007 (UTC) Dan DworskyDan Dworsky has WP:FA potential. I would love to work with you toward this end. Is it possible that you could convert some of your references to {{cite news}}, and {{cite book}} format? I don't know if you have ever pursued FA, but they get picky about minute details like which of the three types of WP:DASHes you use. You would certainly have to cite your work properly. I am going to try to do Don Dufek, Glen Steele and John Vitale tomorrow. Then, I will get to Dworsky as time permits. I have a lot of work to do for another project on Thursday and Friday though. You may want to look at T:TDYK. I did not nominate Hutchinson. His text is just short of the required 1500 characters. If you want you can beef up his article and nominate it. We have until the end of the 29th (UTC) to make such a nomination. You may want to check out all the other nominations we have in the pipeline there.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 01:44, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I think we have fleshed out every type of individual who could reasonably contest being added for being in a class of important individuals. I think the remaining persons are personal favorites more than important persons. The only possible category I might add would be Michigan Hall of Honor. However, I think we should leave the template generic so that other schools from other conferences as well as our own can copy it in a way that helps the project move forward without needless battles. I like guys like Dennis Franklin, Jon Vaughn and Jamie Morris. However, from the international Wikipedian perspective, they are not cleanly distinguished from others not included on the template. Wow! Just ... wow! I'm amazed at the fact that you've written three high-quality articles in less than four days. Incidentally, have you considered nominating Germany Schulz for good article status (possibly even featured article status after a peer review) – it should be a shoo-in? Anyway, there are quite a few possibilities for hooks in that article, such as:
What do you think? By the way, my knowledge of American football is rather limited, so I'm not certain whether the wording of the third hook is technically accurate: did the "roving center" technique become the basis for the linebacker position, or would it be more accurate to say that it reflected the essence of the linebacker position? Or are both incorrect? :/ The James B. Craig article also deserves a nomination, and I'll read that next; I don't think there'll be a problem with having too many articles for Michigan football players in light of the fact that the articles were created on different days. WP:DYK only recommends that DYK should not contain more than 1-2 articles on the same topic at the same time; it says nothing about featuring multiple articles related to one topic in succession. – Black Falcon (Talk) 00:52, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

I always appreciate input on my work. Ah, 1947...I cringe thinking about how many Blue fans I will have to face about that year. First, I would like to assure you that I personally consider Michigan to have been the best football team in the nation in 1947, and I'm sure a vast majority of experts would agree with me (it wouldn't surprise me if half of the 119 writers that voted Notre Dame #1 in the special poll were strict adherents to the pre-bowls format, and the other half was just plain dumb — although I might be in agreement to the tiniest degree with the former, as, in those days, the bowl game was not so much a season climax as a nice trip to California, with a football game thrown in). I wish to God I could bold the Mad Magicians — nine other Michigan teams won consensus national championships, and yet the 1947 squad, the team robbed of the title by famous Notre Dame, was the best of the bunch. I smiled when you mentioned Bump. In fact, I have a great deal of sympathy for your situation. The 1958 Hawkeyes won their consensus title from the FWAA, who voted after Iowa smashed Cal 38-12 in the Rose Bowl. So, be prepared, as I will sound like a massive hypocrite defending the decision to exclude Michigan's '47 team from consensus status, a decision which I can find no way out of and yet am tortured by every day. Sorry for the melodrama. The sources of the consensus national championships are the official NCAA record book and the list of champions on NCAAsports.com, the official site for NCAA sports. Like you, I am very appreciative of the inclusion of the NCF as a consensus selector through 1935 (which knocks on four more titles for Michigan). The period from 1950 to the present is also very sound, save the inclusion of the NFF as a consensus selector. It's the period from 1936 to 1949 that gets me. A number of deserving teams were named national champion by selectors other than the AP, with the 1947 Wolverines leading the pack. (no pun intended — wolverines travel in packs, right?) Both the record book and the NCAAsports.com list have Notre Dame as the one and only AP champion of '47. I read all of the information about the special poll of 1947 in 1947 Michigan Wolverines football team. It goes without saying that it is difficult to prove what was and wasn't official sixty years ago, and, in this situation, I'm afraid that it might take more than a few local newspapers to overthrow the NCAA. Most of what I've heard claims that DFP editor Lyall Smith put together the poll, and all of what I've heard claims that the poll was unofficial. Basically, what it comes down to is finding a way to prove that the special poll was official, if such an achievement is possible. If you can do it I would be behind you 100%, and I'll provide any help you may need along the way. As I've said, I would love to be able to list Michigan as a consensus national champion in 1947, but, until I have enough to go on, the decision has been made by myself and others to rely only on the official information. Good luck on your quest! (Again, sorry for the melodrama.) Iowa13 (talk) 06:01, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I would also make sure the All-American page clearly explains what consensus and unanimous are with a sourced ref if possible. Then you could also note that in any year there are several other lists not officially recognized toward consensus/unanimous designation to account for the likes of the controversies I pointed out on your talk page earlier. The ESPN format is pretty good. They use a table where in one column is the players name and in each of the other columns is a particular list with appropriate checks. I think that would be a better layout for this type of page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 07:35, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

With respect to the latter of the above, since he was a high school state champion in four events and a big ten champion in only one, it is interesting to figure out if he ran more than one of the four events in college and if his All-Big Ten award was merely for hurdling or for a combination of events. WoolfolkI have discovered that there may be a lot missing on Wolfolk. I can not verify for certain that he was a member of the 1981 Big Ten 4x100m relay champions although I know he was on both the 1980 (UofM record book) and 1982 teams (big Ten Champs) so it is probably a safe assumption. He is on several other UofM record setting relay teams. I will beef up the article tommorow. All this leads me to believe he was likely on some Indoor Big Ten relay team champs, but I can not find the info. In fact, he may have won some indoor individual Big Ten Champs that are not listed. This all follows with the All-Big Ten teams that I can not find from that era. Are indoor and outdoor separate All-Big Ten teams? Catholic churches in the LA archdioceseCongratulations on tackling this important project! I was just expressing my opinion on the Afd (too lengthily for a brand new article! ) basically in favor of keeping the article at least until it matured. Since everybody jumped in and improved it, that was in pretty short order. I had jokingly thought to try this again on another church - come in with a weak article deliberately, then nominate it myself for deletion and complain to my fellow editors to help! :) This was the fastest improvement I think I have ever seen on Wikipedia. It went from Afd to "GA" in about three days! :) Sorry. I know of no general source on the web for the size of a parish. I know each parish has this info but I don't know who gets that info besides the bishop who might publish it. You'd think there'd be a parish site comparable to those schools have. So I just try to blunder into a figure from browsing for parishioners. Even one from a few years back would be good enough for me. I regret that I cannot help. I have articles (incl churches) in Vermont and in several counties in Florida and others totalling about 875 articles I'm watching. While this is nowhere close to what "real" editors do (Nyttend watches 8000!) it's about all I can handle. And I do usually need a "personal" connection to keep me interested. Nice of you to ask. Good luck! Student7 (talk) 00:14, 15 April 2008 (UTC) I feel that a lot of other factors too are taken into account while assessing an article apart from size. Though the article is long enough, I dont think it has enough sub-headings. Well, maybe, you might have a different opinion altogether. Anyway, you can always reassess the article if at all you felt that the article deserved a higher rating. :-) Thanks-Ravichandar 04:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:1935WorldSeries.jpg}Thank you for uploading Image:1935WorldSeries.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale. More Cali NRHP articlesThose are really nice articles. Great photos. Great development of the text. The stubs are nice too. I am meaning, by the way, to go out of my way to visit the Burbank city hall, one of your previous articles that i am most interested in (and which, as a public building, I expect will be more open to a visitor bumping in than other places). I think the only thing i have to suggest, is, please announce your new articles in Wikipedia: WikiProject National Register of Historic Places! There is a new articles list-box on its main page, just hit edit and put yours in at the top of the list. That will get a few NRHP writers more experienced than me to visit your article, and they may have more substantial suggestions to make. You're certainly invited to join the WP:NRHP directly, feel free to sign up on the main page. But whether you do that or not, you are welcome to announce the new articles and to participate on the project's Talk page. Really, though, you're doing great. Oh, I wonder, do you know that you can request the full NRHP inventory-nomination texts, and accompanying photosets, from the U.S. National Park Service? They send them out for free. You just have to request them by email to nr_reference (at) nps.gov (send your postal address, they copy and send out by postal mail). You found one of those documents useful for the synagogue article, which they happened to make available at their website. It's usually a very good source; you should just request it routinely. doncram (talk) 05:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC) Hi CBL -- I just started up List of Registered Historic Places in the City of Angels as a list-table to cover just the NRHPs in the city of Los Angeles. I would like to add some intro text and put it up for DYK, along the lines of "did you know that the City of Los Angeles has 123(or whatever) sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places". For now, I am leaving off a Description/Summary column, until the DYK happens, because it would be impossible to fill it all out. Could you take a look at it? Please discuss at the Talk page. doncram (talk) 21:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
(unindent) I agree about splitting out Pasadena, also. Am surprised it has so many. It is definitely next. Maple Leaf (talk) 14:40, 28 May 2008 (UTC) Pasadena, and List of RHPs in LA CountyHi -- It's taken me a while to get caught up with some other stuff, after being away for a week or so. Earlier i added a Description column to the List of Registered Historic Places in Los Angeles and put in a couple sample short descriptions, plus commented about that in its Talk page. Also i edited List of RHPs in LA County to separate the 96 Pasadena ones into a separate table, which can go into a new article. How do you want to proceed with that? I was thinking we could collect photos for the Pasadena ones, adding them into this table, and then when ready create the article and a 1500 word intro and go for DYK. The table development could be with the Description column included or not. I am inclined to include it all along. I am guessing the DYK will be accepted, as long as the article is new and the paste-in from the existing article is just the table, with the text to be created within the new article, so it will be viewed as brand new 1500 word article (as opposed to having to create something that is 5 times as long as the sum of all the descriptions in the table). Let me know what you think. (Also, maybe you could email me and we could try to get together sometime, perhaps to meet in Pasadena taking pics? There's an email-to-me button on my userpage.) Anyhow, i see you are continuing to do great stuff, keep it up! doncram (talk) 03:45, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I note there is not a separate article for Los Angeles Plaza Historic District, while it deserves one separate from the Olvera Street article that the List of Registered Historic Places in Los Angeles article links to for this district. Notably, the district includes buildings on other streets, as the district is "Roughly bounded by Spring, Macy, Alameda and Arcadia Sts., and Old Sunset Blvd." I found a relevant link to use in such an article, and pasted it into the description for the district within List of Registered Historic Places in Los Angeles. I wonder if you want to create this article sometime; I'll leave it for you in case you may want to, rather than just creating a stub right now. doncram (talk) 00:29, 30 May 2008 (UTC) L.A. Historical-Cultural Monuments infoboxWe think alike. An infobox for LAHCMs is needed. I believe that there is too much hard-coded about NRHPs into the NRHP2 infobox for me to adapt that to cover sites that are LA Historical-Cultural Monuments (LAHCMs) but not also NRHPs. However, its code can be adapted to create a new infobox on LAHCMs alone, or perhaps on LAHCMs and also California Historical Landmarks (CHISLs), or perhaps to cover any generic local designation. See my posting at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#Local designations enabled for NRHP2 infobox. If you would post a comment there about what you see is needed, or how importance that is, that might be helpful in getting others to help. I believe there is sympathy for this need, and i know others have expertise that would be relevant. If an infobox is developed for LAHCMs specifically, what information should it include? Certainly it should allow for the LAHCM site number, rather than the NRHP refnum. I do think the WP:NRHP discussion thread is the right place to develop these ideas, though. doncram (talk) 15:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC) pic tripAbout the last pics for List of Registered Historic Places in Los Angeles, i'll get that one missing one in Silver Lake, if u haven't already. Thank you for the notice and compliment. However, I did not write the article. I started it, and a group of plant editors made it a nice little article worthy of being on the front page, including adding a researched hook, discussing what to use as the hook, including alternatives, and nominating the hook for inclusion in DYK, and monitoring it while up for consideration. The problem with the awards and recognition for DYK is they are given to individuals, when Wikipedia is a community of writers. I write with a small group, and was once honored with am award, but my editor and I turned it down because ... we are a community of writers, and the award honored only me. The Cushion plant article is an excellent example of what Wikipedia can put out. But it will always be battled by that list on the DYK awards page of the accomplishments of individual editors, the triple crown winners, the 50 DYK winners, those on their 100 DYKs--quantity is demanded for the awards. There are no awards on Wikipedia for not plagiarizing. Over 14,000 people clicked on that article because it was an interesting hook in an article about an obscure, but relatable (nature) subject, accompanied by a nice image, created by a small group of hard-working editors. --Blechnic (talk) 21:45, 27 June 2008 (UTC) Murphy dripThank you for the info, and for the praise. I think you were encountering a situation where the NRHP name in our LA list was a red-link and was different than the name of a pre-existing article on the site, and you handled it correctly by revising our list to keep showing the NRHP name (as it is a list of NRHPs) while wikilinking to the pre-existing article. And you added the NRHP infobox, keeping the NRHP name there (as it should be). Further, I edited the article intro to mention the alternative name. And further, i created a redirect at the NRHP name for the site. I think we talked about how to do redirects a while back.... It would have been similar if the problem had been we had created a new NRHP article already, before finding the pre-existing one. Then I would have supported merging our material into the older article, and converting our new article into a redirect to the older one. That gets to the same result as above. In mergers, I do think it is courteous to merge the newer article into the older one, so that the older history of edits stays with the article. Even if the newer article name is better, because the merged article can be moved with its entire long history to the newer name, after. Anyhow i think you handled it right. Thanks for checking in! doncram (talk) 22:58, 29 July 2008 (UTC) Got your message. I could meet there then, would like that. Have been there before. Could you please send me an email using the email-to-me box on my userpage, towards making specific arrangements? doncram (talk) 12:41, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
DYK reviewsI could have missed your doing this already, but could you consider doing some DYK reviews? I notice there are some general requests for help in reviewing at wt:DYK. Even without being an administrator, you can do a lot there, from commenting on proposals to selecting and moving approved ones to the next update. Apparently we just can't move the next update to the page which shows on the Wikipedia mainpage. Any small comments with or without evaluation checkmarks or question marks, help. By the way, i reviewed one of yours and i also notice your Harold Lloyd Estate in DYK; too bad the pic i took previously seemed not to have been of the right place. Cheers, doncram (talk) 20:29, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Cbl62, If you don't mind, would you review the above article under the August 23rd section? An IP earlier added a comment if there should be obituaries on DYK, but a second opinion would be appreciated. Thank you, RyRy (talk) 01:18, 30 August 2008 (UTC) DYK for Joseph R. WoodWould you mind reviewing my suggestion for Joseph R. Wood please. It's expiring. Thanks for any help you can give.Nrswanson (talk) 14:50, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
