User talk:Butlerblog/Archives/2025/May

I have no real objection to this category existing in theory but in its current form - singularly a subcategory of far-right politics in the United States, utterly disconnected from 1) the publications category tree and 2) any other similar type of "far-right publication" e.g. neo-Nazi and nazi publications, which we also have categories for, it is extremely weird. Also, several of the entries here don't obey the Category:Creative works/Category:Mass media division, as singular instances they would be works, or are publishers. Having a single far-right category tree for a country, and no others, without even a no-country parent category, is odd.

Since you are the creator, do you have any ideas on how to proceed? Should we make a bigger category tree for it? PARAKANYAA (talk) 22:47, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

Upon checking there is also the Category:Far-right organizations in the United States which has the same issue. PARAKANYAA (talk) 22:54, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
It started off because I was trying to subcategorize items in Category:Far-right politics in the United States. But it certainly should also exist as a subcategory of other related category trees where it makes sense. I just didn't do it at the time. And if it makes sense to refine works and mass media, absolutely do so. I was just trying to get things that were originally in the parent category into more appropriate subcategories, and one did not exist. ButlerBlog (talk) 00:47, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
Ok, cool, will get to that sometime (I made the parent of the publications one, see Category:Far-right publications. Thanks! PARAKANYAA (talk) 04:27, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

Bug: plainlist removal

Apparently fails to detect and remove closing }} if it is not on a separate line eg. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Celebrity_Booze:_The_Ultimate_Cash_Grab&diff=prev&oldid=1291699108. Regards, Closingbrackettalk 16:30, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

That would appear to the case. Thanks for catching this! ButlerBlog (talk) 17:20, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
It happened even in this edits: Web Weirdos diff, Who Would Win diff. --GünniX (talk) 05:35, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
Also noticed this at Vampire Diaries articles, here and here (fixed, just letting you know). Cheers, Jessicapierce (talk) 15:03, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
Seeing more and more of this - and at Death in Bloom, here, it stripped the end brackets from multiple efn formatting. Jessicapierce (talk) 15:09, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
@Jessicapierce: - thanks for noting this. The Vampire Diaries errors appear to be the result of the change implemented to fix the issue that was noted above - closing of the plainlist template at the end of line. In this case, it's a new confusion for the bot task as the closing brackets removed were the closing brackets for the entire infobox. So I'll need to adjust it to recognize the difference. Pretty much the same comments on the Death in Bloom error. Thanks for pointing these out. There are still several thousand pages in the maintenance category that have plainlist markup where they shouldn't, so it's a necessary fix. ButlerBlog (talk) 15:21, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
No worries, a bot can't be perfect, and at least the cleanup is super easy. Thank you! :) Jessicapierce (talk) 15:25, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
