Hi there, I've reported bot errors here before, and I know it's a known issue. Just wanted to report that I've seen a large number of such errors today and yesterday. I don't know if a breakdown of error type is useful, but in case it is:
Thanks, botmaster! Jessicapierce (talk) 21:44, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Jessicapierce: Thanks for reporting these - and thank you for fixing the errors. Without getting into the technicals, some of these are due to a combination of factors - those being that there are so many weird things people put into formatting and each time there's an adjustment to the bot for some weirdness, it makes it more prone to errors elsewhere.
- At this point, I'm going to pull out Category:Pages using infobox television episode with unnecessary list markup from the bot 2 task (that's where all of these occurred) and will probably work on a new, separate bot task that focuses solely on that maintenance category. That way, it's not shoehorned into another task (and there's a vetting process for the new task by the bot group). That way we can get something that is more robust and less prone to errors to get this category cleaned up.
- My apologies for causing you cleanup work - thanks for your patience. ButlerBlog (talk) 23:19, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- I imagine that fine-tuning this must be a never-ending job... thank you for doing that! I don't mind the cleanup at all, since it's obviously nothing malicious.
- If I find further errors, is it useful if I post them here, or should I just clean 'em up? 03:20, 10 July 2025 (UTC) Jessicapierce (talk) 03:20, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Jessicapierce: You're right on that aspect - the more maintenance categories we put into the television project, the more tuning that has to go into the bot. When it was primarily focused on just date format and we didn't support multiple dates/networks, it was much easier. I'd say if you do notice other errors that may be different from what you've posted, let me know about them - if you're not sure, it's better to let me know than to not. I don't mind looking at them and if it's the same as another error, I'd rather look at two of the same thing than not find out one was actually different in some way (hope that makes sense the way I worded it). Thanks!! ButlerBlog (talk) 17:07, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
I don't know why you think you're right all the time, probably you aren't. Interchangeable term? Well, then go remove the link on here British Israelism to Christian Identity Theology. You're going to be very busy if you are trying to fix a ton of things. Efficacity (talk) 08:07, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Efficacity: I don't recall saying that I think I'm right all the time. In fact, if you'd bother to look at the discussion immediately above this one there's a clear acknowledgement of some mistakes on my part.
- Since appears that you've decided certain article assessments are worth edit warring over, I would again ask that you gain some additional experience before you begin assessing articles because the assessments that you're doing are not in line with our guidelines on assessment. I know that you have seen guidance I left for you on your user talk page (we consider blanking to be an acknowledgement that you've seen it). We have guidelines for assessment criteria. It's incumbent upon you to review and understand the guidelines. ButlerBlog (talk) 12:08, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
BTW, if you need anything from it, I have the 2011 Atkins book. And thank you for writing the Peters article. I meant to do that eventually. PARAKANYAA (talk) 13:45, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- No problem - I had it in the works for a while, just hadn't worked it up for the wiki. But isn't that always the case? At least it is for me - I've got loads of half started ideas that I just don't have the time to get finished. And I don't know about how it is for you, but I have to shift mental gears all the time because I'm working on a masters, so when I write for that (and it's a lot of writing), it's primary sources and interpretation, which is OR here. So jumping from one style to the other takes a toll on my brain.
- Thanks for the offer - I think the 2002 and 2011 books are mostly similar? When I bought the 2002 book, I actually thought I was getting the 2011 one (because I already had the ebook edition of the 2002). ButlerBlog (talk) 14:22, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- There's some stuff that is the same but also a lot of stuff that isn't in both directions and a lot of the entries are rewritten. But some of it, yes.
- I have a lot of articles in the work too. Let us hope that we do not have the same draft ideas, lol. Not quite the same deal with me I just jump from topic to topic a lot. PARAKANYAA (talk) 14:46, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- The two that I'm most focused on in Identity right now are Joe Jeffers and Dan Gayman, both of which I'd target to publish to mainspace before the end of summer ("summer" meaning "before school starts again", which for me is very early August). I do have some things started on America's Promise Ministries, which dovetails with the Sheldon Emry article I started awhile ago - just haven't gotten enough good sourcing on APM, and I don't know if I'll get that done before Fall term begins. In a related milieu, Greg Dixon is also one I've done work on but not-ready-for-primetime yet. I don't think I have anything else in the works presently that might run into what you might also be working on (at least that's my best guess). Is there any overlap there? If so, I'm not married to my current drafts. FTR, I usually try to keep a list of my draft ideas here, although those drafts don't always reflect the offline work - they're usually just reminders for me until I start building out from my notes. I use Zotero to build out ideas following a "source first" approach and then that builds into an article (or paper, if it's a degree related project). ButlerBlog (talk) 15:26, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- I should add, like you I jump from topic to topic as well... ButlerBlog (talk) 15:43, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- My interest is more in right-wing extremism generally rather than Christian Identity specifically, though I do find that interesting. So thankfully no duplication there as of now. I write most of my drafts locally now but I'm working on articles on people who are in the rw-extremism encyclopedias who we don't have articles on (see the list I made User:PARAKANYAA/Prospectus/Far-right) Jack Oliphant, Tommy Rydén, James Burford, Rick Cooper, atm. I was going to work on Gayman at one point since he's on that list but I didn't start that yet, thankfully. PARAKANYAA (talk) 16:00, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! That's a good list - and a good approach you're focusing on to fill in needed coverage! I'll reach out if I start anything new so I don't end up working on something you're already focused on. Aside from the specific drafts I noted above, I'm not working on anything else new. Looking your list over, Dave Barley is probably where I'd end up next if I look to start working on something new, primarily because he's an extension of Emry and APM where I've already done other work, but there's a lot that is RL'd in that list that I would probably never dip into. My interest in writing on KKK subjects only extends as far as it intersects with CI (and BI in the CI embryonic period). I will say, I hope someone tackles trying to better cover the KKK as distinct phases/eras because they are very different in scope. If it's you that decides to kick the hornet's nest of trying to split the main article, you'll find at least one editor here that would support it (or maybe you think it's fine as it stands). Sorry... didn't mean to drift too far afield here. I can tend to ramble if I'm not careful. ButlerBlog (talk) 16:26, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- The KKK book is included in my list because bewilderingly it included many far-righters who had nothing to do with the KKK at all. I agree with you on hoping someone gets onto writing about the KKK eras better, because yeah as is we aren't doing it too well. Maybe me in several years. But thanks for all your work on the CI topic. PARAKANYAA (talk) 01:42, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
