Hi,

I've been working on cleaning up a set of articles that have been very poorly written, cited, and often inaccurate data from a particular user.

I just noticed that you worked on the article - and I want to make sure that I didn't revert anything that worked on that should be there. For instance, I have only see the use of direct elevation numbers, rather than a calculation.

Hi Buaidh. In your work with templates, please take care to make sure that any image you add to a template is not one that is used under a claim of fair use (usually called "non-free" on Wikipedia). I noticed that you work in Mexico on the Wikiproject Mountains. I need a bit of help if you can. I am actually working on an artist (I know nothing about mountains), but his bio says he lives on the side of a mountain in the Tepozteco Mountain Range near the village of Tepoztlán. When I looked for the mountains, it took me to an archeological site El Tepozteco, which references as a red link Sierra de Tepoztlan. I find nothing about a range of mountains under Tepoztlan, Tepozteco, Siera de Tepozteco or Sierra de Tepoztlan, on the Spanish Wikipedia either, but there is an article that talks about "the mountain" named Tepozteco.

Finding nothing on Wikipedia to clarify it, I went to the web. I find that there is a national park [1] which states that the park is in the Sierra del Ajusco. This site, [2] which talks about the town Tepoztlan says it is surrounded by a ridge, no name given *sigh*, among which is a sacred mountain Tepozteco. This book [3] says the valley the town is in lies in the basin between the Sierra del Ajusco and Sierra Madre del Sur. Going back to Wikipedia, Sierra del Ajusco says it is part of a chain called Sierra del Ajusco-Chichinauhtzin. Sierra Madre del Sur goes through Michoacan, Guerrero, and Oaxaca, so too far south for Morelos. Obviously, I am just finding all sorts of names, but none to clarify the name of the mountain range my guy lives in. All the Trip Advisor, Frommer's type references call it the Tepozteco Mountains, but I am still thinking that is the name of only one peak from the other sources I see. I tried Google maps search, but it does not name the mountains around the town. Is there some site you know of that could confirm the name of the mountain range? Hi there, I'm working on container categories and encountered an issue. Category:Wikipedians in the United States Armed Forces is tagged as a container category, meaning subcats only. User:UBX/US military categorizes directly into this cat, however. I'm just wondering if you'd be interested in suggesting a way to resolve, as I noticed you had edited the userbox some time ago for categorization. I gather whoever tagged that cat as a container is hoping everyone will specifically categorize themselves by branch, but the US military userbox doesn't currently do that. Any help is appreciated. Hi, from recent patrol log I saw that you are online :) ...Sorry to bother but I have one confusion if you could clear. See Ashtapailu. The page has been created today while the tag that it has for primary sources says February 2014. Article has only 2 edits. Just a thought - Is it purposely done by author ? Thanks! My guess is that the article was created with another name and then re-created with this new name rather than moving the original article. Perhaps the company has changed its name and doesn't wish to be associated with its previous name. Yours aye,  Buaidh  19:19, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Well you brought one more point to this - "the article was created with another name and then re-created with this new name rather than moving the original article. Perhaps the company has changed its name and doesn't wish to be associated with its previous name." So you mean to say that in the first case Ashtapailu, it is possible that this company would have some other name and it had an article on Wikipedia. Now the company has changed the name and created a new article with new name rather than moving the old article. So, what happens to the article with old name ? and how does these two articles get interlinked (since primary sources tag is in past date) ? Many editors do not know how to move an article, so they create a new article and copy the old article to the new. Then they either delete the old article or create a redirect to the new article. Unfortunately, the article history does not get copied to the new article this way. A user who wishes to discard an article's history can also use this technique.

Hi, Buaidh. I'm attempting to use {{Cmt}} in a mountain set index article (List of peaks named Kennedy, see my draft at User:Hike395/sandbox2). I'm running into a difficulty --- it seems that you named the references things like F_{{{name}}}, but because it's a SIA, I have multiple distinct peaks with the same name. So, I don't get multiple references to peakbagger: they all get mapped to the same reference. Is there a way around this? Are you naming the references to allow WP to combine them? If so, shouldn't they always be named F_{{{1}}} ?

I don't recall why I chose the format F_{{{name|{{{1}}}}}} rather than F_{{{1}}} as the reference names. I have made your changes to Template:Cmt/sandbox. Thank you for all of the nice mountain tables! User:Doncram thinks that they look better than the SIA format that User:RedWolf and I put together back in 2004 --- and I agree with him. I am using List of peaks named Kennedy as a test case, and I would like to (eventually) convert all SIAs look something like List of mountain peaks of North America.

Re: naming references. One thing occurs to me -- you could name the references with the id number of the target citation.. something like pb_2342. I think that's guaranteed to be unique (and perhaps could be generalized beyond {{cmt}} and {{imt}}). —hike395 (talk) 15:06, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

The only need for a reference name is to provide a unique reference identifier. While we could create relevant names like pb_2342, I doubt that would create any additional value. I've updated both Template:Cmt and Template:Imt.  Buaidh  17:28, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

The article List of adjectivals and demonyms for Colorado counties has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Let's see: the two exceptions, Broomfield and Denver, are included in the parallel list of Colorado cities. All other counties follow a normal pattern. The usefulness of this list is thus effectively zero. The notability of the subject is close to zero as well. There's a reason we don't have this list for any other state (or similar level in any other country), and there is clearly no reason to make an exception for Colorado, as these are not notable or noteworthy demonyms.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

I read Talk:Denali/Archive 2#Precise metric elevation. After that discussion was archived, a new article was published which I described at Talk:Denali#Precise metric elevation. In light of the new article, I consider clams of sub-meter precision to be not justified by the reliable sources. I am happy with the elevation as it now is, permanent snow cap to the nearest metre. But I note that with this edit the prominence was changed to 6140 and the source reverted to peakbagger. I don't want to make a federal case out of 4 metres of prominence, but I cannot find any explanation for the above change, on a subject which I thought we had agreed on September 23. After reverting your insertion of the canal commission report, I continued to try to figure out why you had added it and happened on this discussion, and now I finally understand. But I think the peakbagger website is sufficient to document the prominence (and it even explains what it means). Citing the canal commission report, I believe, is only confusing. At least to me.
