Just a wee thought...Have you had a look at WP:BITE? It basically means, do not bite the newcomers, or, assume good faith, as we all make mistakes. I just thought your warning here was a little on the harsh side. Normally, I'd recommend {{advert1}} or {{advert2}}. Otherwise keep up the great work! Glen 08:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

VPIn reguard to your VP approval I see some issues on your userpage that concern me. I have removed your name from the list twice allready. Each time I cited my reasons. Since VP is a powerful tool the moderators of VP need to be able to trust in the users we approve. The recent issues do not support you. Yes I know we all make mistakes, I have made a few myself but before we approve you we would like to see you redeem yourself. WP:POPUPS is a useful tool. He is irresponsibly deleting relative content. Clan Activity is extremely relevant as Zdaemon.org devotes nearly half of their front page toward them. Furthermore, Zdaemon Community is very active with CTF which is heavily played by Clans. voip-info.org link removalHi BJweeks. I visited this link (after you corrected it) on Digium and it really doesn't provide any more information than what is already in the article and company website. WP standards state that the official company website link is OK, but others are to be discouraged unless they provide unique content. If you still think its necessary, go ahead and add it back, but it seems redundant. Calltech 14:58, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

teamspeakThe reason I was editing is that I have searched out all free teamspeak sites and the one that was currently posted offered less that the one I posted. So I thought either both should be on or the one I posted or neither because people would rather get 50 free slots than 16 which was offered at the previous. You dont go to Highland High School so dont edit there page. Just focus on your high school. User:BJBotGreat bot! BJBot found an image I upoladed two days after someone else uploaded the same image. The BJBot notified him that his image was orphaned and he replaced the link in the article to one leading to his image upload. This made my image orphaned, which BJBots caught and placed a note on my talk page. After reviewing the situation as suggested by BJBot, I figured out that my uploaded image was a duplicate image and was uploaded two days after the other image. I posted a reply on BJBots talk page. For future use of BJBot, you may want to indicate whether you want people posting a reply on BJBots talk page, your talk page, or do nothing (such as if they agree that the image should be deleted). On BJBots user page, you may want to provide a history of the bot to give others a sense of how long its been around, what it does, etc. Keep up the good work. -- Jreferee 16:42, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

While they are all legitimate, as the images really are fair use and really are orphaned, I wonder if an improvement might be able to be made where the multiple messages to the same uploader are consolidated. Currently, KenL's talk page is absolutely flooded with notices. Just a suggestion. --Iamunknown 00:56, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Ixnayonthetimmay 01:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC) BJBot fodderExcellent, glad to here the list was of some use, and not too horribly outdated. Yes, I use mysql, though I think the SQL is pretty standard, and it should be possible to use just about any db server that comes to hand, with little modification. The list I uploaded uses the page, categorylinks and imagelinks tables from the db from the Nov. 30th db dump. I don't yet have a imagelinks table rebuilt from the more recent db dump, but I do have the other two. If I get that done, I then just have to rework the actual queries somewhat; may be able to do that tomorrow to generate an updated list, after which I'll also send you the SQL statements required. Alai 06:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC) That too a bit longer than I'd imagined; some db problems, OK, I've emailed you the latest list: it seemed to be too large to upload here. If wiki email messes around with it too much, reply and I'll resend it direct. I'll send you the SQL once I've had another look at it and make sure it's a more or less sane reconstruction of what I did this time. Alai 02:51, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

A bot could run through Category:Images and media for deletion and see when the images were marked IFD (by looking at the history perhaps) and if it was greater than 30 days, it would re-list them or perhaps just make notice of them on a special page at IFD or even under the bot when run saying "These images were marked IFD and either never listed or not properly closed" so a human/admin could look at them, if they were listed then they were likely decided on "keep", if they were never listed, then they just get re-listed. The bot could scan through the archives to determine if they were never listed too. Though a human should make the determination if it's IFD worthy, as someone may just slap the tag on a useful image as well. There are ~1214 images in the category, and I would think running it once a month would be plenty to catch images that would likely be 1 or 2 (after the first run). Is it possible? User:BigDT had the same idea for this bot on IRC (he's a image admin). --MECU≈talk 16:33, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

YABI (yet another Bot idea)Fair use images should be reduced in size. The Wikipedia:Image use policy states images on articles should never be above 550px wide, but used inline with text (like most fair use images are, if not all, like in infoboxes) should be reduced to thumbnail size. The default thumbnail is 180px, but users can set it to other stock sizes in preferences up to 300px I think. Thus, all fair use images should be no wider than 300px. The bot would go through ever fair use image, reduce it in size to 300px, reupload the image and mark it {{fairusereduced|~~~~~}}. The bot should also reduce the resolution to 72x72 pixels/inch, as I think 300x300 is print quality and 72x72 is a standard web-quality. It should of course keep the aspect ratio of the original image. I've been going through the images that were manually marked in that category and using Gimp which is fairly easy to use, and might have some capability to process bulk files at once with a script so that the bot could grap 50 images, process with gimp and then reupload them (or since it's a bot, reprocessing 1 by 1 would work too, a Gimp script wouldn't care running on 1 or 50 so I guess that's a dumb idea). All the logos and movie poster and album cover categories could be done since those are likely the major violations (maybe promophoto too) so I'd say there were 100-150k images to go through and do this on. Some of the images I've downloaded were quite large, like half a meg, but uploading them back would be small, as most are about 5kb after reducing. Most images aren't that large though. any thoughts? --MECU≈talk 19:26, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

In the template, these codes are there: class="infobox" style="width: 20em; align: left; text-align: right; style="float: left; font-size: 90%;" cellspacing="2" But we have to manually add this part to the template style="float: left; So what i would like to do is to make a bot to detect templates without this code, such as in this article. A perfect template with the style code will look like this. Though u dont know Dhivehi language please feel free to check the difference between the two articles. ;) So will it be any difficulties for u?? Thanks for ur time. Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing listHi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy. Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas. In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you. Two-Factor Authentication now available for adminsHello, Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right. It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best. If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised. We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered. You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki. When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed. Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help. If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter. We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language.
