I noticed your edits to triathlon articles (for which many thanks), and see from your user page that you're a triathlete from Kansas. Firstly, I wondered if you might like to join WikiProject Triathlon - we could use a few more hands to help clean up articles? Sure, I'm on board for the WikiProject Triathlon. And sadly, no I didn't get to see her (I only spied Andrew Yoder as he rode passed us after his race), though I possibly walked right passed her at the finish line as she was handing out finisher medals. I was doubled over in pain from leg cramps after I finished the race that I didn't have the presence of mind to look for her, congratulate her, etc. Nice work, by the way, on the Chrissie Wellington article. Thanks for that. My intention is to focus on getting her article up to WP:GA status soon. Hope you're recovering well from the race by now. It seems that the run course was probably short, according to her blog and what some other people are saying, otherwise a time of 1:15:12 is pretty impressive for a chick! Hello. Last month you added a citation to a book from the "Webster's Quotations, Facts and Phrases" series published by Icon Group International to this article. Unfortunately, Icon Group International is not a reliable source - their books are computer-generated, with most of the text copied from Wikipedia (most entries have [WP] by them to indicate this, see e.g. [1]). I've only removed the reference, not the text it was referencing. I'm removing a lot of similar references as they are circular references; many other editors have also been duped by these sources. Despite giving an appearance of reliability, the name "Webster's" has been public domain since the late 19th century. Another publisher to be wary of as they reuse Wikipedia articles is Alphascript Publishing. Fences&Windows 23:43, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your continued work on triathlon articles. I just thought I'd point out why there isn't (wasn't) already a redirect from Yvonne Van Vlerken to Yvonne van Vlerken, and that is to make sure that her name is always spelt correctly - any mistake shows up immediately as a redlink.

Having a redirect is not a disaster, though. It just means that we have to regularly check the "what links here" from YvV's page (or direct link: Special:WhatLinksHere/Yvonne van Vlerken), and correct any incoming links via the redirect. We shouldn't allow people's names to be misspelled on Wikipedia, especially champion triathletes.

I first found the date from IMDB. There are also a few blogs out there that use the same date. The reference from the WSJ refers to her as 50-years-old (consistent with the date used in the info box). Additionally, a show she appeared on, Age of Love, also lists her birthdate as 7/16/1960. IMBD is not a reliable citation for any biographical detail. There are a few comments that she is 50 but the date is unsupported, a DOB requires quite a strong claim, where is this Age of Love claim, is that cited? Good effort on starting Virginia Berasategui, she was on my list to start sometime soon.

I was aware of the different spellings on the two footer templates, but left it pending investigation of what her correct surname actually is. Her surname is definitely a Basque surname, and in Basque it is spelt Berasategi ("g" is always pronounced hard in Basque, so it doesn't need a following "u" to mark hardness as Spanish does before "e" or "i"). On the one hand her web site uses mostly Berasategui, probably because it is mostly in Spanish (with some English). On the other hand her name also appears as "Berasategi" elsewhere, including race results. It is quite possible that her birth certificate also says Berasategi, but it's difficult to be sure, esp as Spain was still in the Franco era when she was born (Franco died only a few months after she was born). She doesn't appear to be a mother-tongue Basque speaker (if she were, it is likely she would be very insistent on the Basque spelling).

Anyway, I've set up a redirect from Virginia Berasategi, and tagged it with {{R from alternative spelling}} to indicate that it is a legitimate alternative spelling.

I have not specific aspirations on getting the article through for DYK, but I welcome any attempt and collaboration for the article to reach that point. I'll continue to help improve the article where I can. I have no vision for it, it can be US or international, its just a stub at this point. The article in Time magazine also covered Putin and Silvio Berlusconi. It would be great if you get a chance to have a word with Chrissie and pass on my abject apologies for my failure to bring her article up to GA status (yet) - it now needs a lot of work to bring it up to date - but it will get done eventually . I attended a talk she gave in London not long after her second Hawaii win, when very near the start she mentioned her Wikipedia article (video here - this was before she'd set up her own web site). Afterwards I said to her that I was the guy who'd written her Wikipedia article, and she replied, "It's amazing, how did you get it so accurate?" Thanks. The race went well for me, plus I had the privilege of having Chrissie place my finishers medal around my neck (something I missed out on last year). Being out there at the venue it would've been nice to see her race, but I had my own race to take care of. I did get to see her exit from the water and transition through T1. Pretty awesome. Hours after the race I was walking through the event expo area and Chrissie reemerged for the upcoming awards ceremony. I had great opportunity to get a photo with her, but sadly I was without my camera. Pretty neat with video and the mention of her Wikipedia page. Sounds like it went a lot better than last year, hope you're recovering well. Actually, it was a lot easier to write her article back then than it is now. I really enjoy the detective work of finding out missing info, and was very curious how someone could come out of nowhere to win the World Champs, especially someone who was a former member of my running club (but she left it before I joined, so no COI). My only role in editing this article was to make sure it complied with Wikipedia's policies, in particular, manual of style. I have no real knowledge of the article subject and where its importance lies within the realm of books/stories/etc. If you wish to gain the opinion that the article's importance should be changed I would discuss this with WP:WikiProject Novels on their talk page as the article falls under their scope. While I understand your vigilance to keep pages accurate, please don't delete info I am adding while I am in process of adding verifiable sources. Wiki believes strongly in good faith & the benchmark is not what you believe to be true without looking into a topic. I'd like to think that I would get more than a few moments to cite the multiple sources that verify the info I added for this person's bio. I have taken issue with it. Because no one has acted upon this conflict of interest or commented on it does not make the issue go away. The article, in my view, lacks an independent editor who is both knowledgeable of the article subject and willing to review the article and/or make any necessary changes, additions, or subtractions. Outside of yourself and some anon San Diego IP addresses, no other user has made any significant contributions to the article, particularly a registered user (see here) and that is why a conflict of interest exists, no matter the intentions thus far. Its just the current state of the article and who it was prepared by. If you would like to actively seek out someone who may review the article or provide guidance I would try the Wikipedia Conflict of interest Noticeboard or Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests. Until then, I wold like to see an independent reviewer, with no connection to the subject, edit or comment on the article before the template is removed. While it may be a single purpose account one could speculate that the registered user is the article subject herself since the account was registered in 2007, the same time the article subject had employment at KUSI News. Additionally, the recently uploaded photo is possibly from her current employer. At the very least the registered user name implies a connection to the article subject, thus the COI template. I'm only looking for someone knowledgeable of the subject to review the article independently, but if it warrants a post to the COI noticeboard then perhaps I'll look into pursuing it. Barkeep, I'm puzzled why you now feel the need, to undo every edit I make to this page. This website runs via community contribution, yet you've recently made it your mission to block mine. I did as requested and changed my user name. I simply reposted a link to video, which you initially approved years ago (reference our conversation). The page allows for links to personal website, which the subject does not have. What's the difference? In the past, I have appreciated your help.
