Thanks for the Project invite! I know nothing about the admin nomination process. I think it's safe to say I won't be needed nor missed. You can count on me for a myriad other things ;) FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 01:59, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi AutomaticStrikeout/Archive 10, here are some delicious cookies to help brighten your day! However, there are too many cookies here for one person to eat all at once, so please share these cookies with at least two other editors by copying {{subst:Sharethecookies}} to their talk pages. Enjoy! Mediran (t • c) 00:50, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the cookies, AutomaticStrikeout! I see your work around all the time, and I really appreciate knowing that people notice mine, too. Your WikiLove brightened my day considerably. Happy editing! --Jackson Peebles (talk) 18:50, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Hmmm... that's not a bad idea. It took me a moment to figure out what you were doing with the strike thingy, but I kinda like it! Thanks for going to the trouble to suggest it, Cyber. I'll sleep on it and see what I decide. (Note: the input of my stalkers is welcome). AutomaticStrikeout ? 03:08, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
I appreciate you helping me out on Wikipedia I know that I started yelling at you and muboshgu but I've calmed down and taken your advice on wikipeida. I'm getting better at my edits and using reliable resources like MLBtraderumors.com and MLB.com. I used those two resources to confirm a few of my edits for example. Josh BellChris NelsonGil Velazquez and also I added image sizes to some very small images to make them more visible and a bit bigger. Thanks again for the help I appreciate it!Kingryan227 (talk) 00:06, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

There is no talk page there, so I have no reason to create one, but I realize that a WP:Hall of Fame/Inductees should only be for editors who are no longer editing, like who was the kid who committed suicide? Not sure if they made any significant contributions, but they certainly are no longer editing. It would be nice to rig it so that Jimbo Wales was the first inductee, but by the criteria of no longer editing, I guess the honor would go to Larry Sanger instead. Apteva (talk) 14:58, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
Actually, the main Hall of Fame page was deleted via MfD. For some reason, the other pages weren't. Therefore, I'm not really sure what to do. AutomaticStrikeout ? 15:44, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
That was correctly done. There is no hall of fame until the structure is created first, setting up the process of nominations and inductions. The subpages are fine, and can be used for developing that process. I would recommend removing proposed nominees if there is no likelihood they will ever be inducted (three voting sections, induct, not now, and never), but only induct editors who are no longer editing (or at least other than their own user/talk page). Often editors play a key role in developing or maintaining the project and then disappear, and would be forgotten forever if there was not a hall of fame to recognize them. As pointed out by one of the nominees, the concept needs more development before it can be displayed to the community as a hall of fame. The last suggestion is a good one, that the actual hall of fame should be at meta. Let every wiki add inductees, and on the inductees page only report the english inductees. The hall of fame page would list all inductees and just be a link to the meta page. To me setting up a hall of fame is a useful, but very low priority project. Future generations will want to know who were the most significant contributors. Apteva (talk) 16:16, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind words and my honorary membership
Dear Automatic Strikeout (aka disciplinated hitter):
I deeply appreciate your support and kindness. Your Gold as Gold message is now in my userpage. Please feel free to share any topic of interest in baseball. Cheers! MusiCitizen (talk) 16:36, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Yeah I screwed up on that edit. I thought it was current and posted my opinion without looking. I think I can get the idiot of the month award, or at least a good trouting. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!)21:11, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Thankfully, there is no idiot of the month award. There are trouts, but I don't care much for them myself. If someone knows they made a mistake, they don't need to be told. Regards, AutomaticStrikeout ? 21:12, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
I don't particularly see the problem with them. However, my concern isn't with what people were saying at the AFD; I closed it because it shouldn't have been created in the first place and because the nominator seemed to be contesting the original close (the nomination statement was the only thing I read), so DRV was a better place to go. Meanwhile, Ryan Raburn's article says nothing about strikeouts; perhaps you could update it with the nickname? Nyttend (talk) 22:26, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
Aren't there statistics sites online that would give information about his strikeouts? Perhaps you could insert a career statistics section, mentioning the strikeouts as just one of several different kinds of statistics. Nyttend (talk) 22:44, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
Why? I'm suggesting that you say "He had ___ career home runs, or ___ on average per season, ___ career strikeouts, or ___ on average per season, ___ career at-bats, or ___ on average per season", etc., not highlighting the strikeouts. Nyttend (talk) 23:48, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
Just copy the following into the signature space in your preferences:

It's so cool how you guys know how to do like everything on here I just want to be one of those editors like you guys so if you have anything you can teach me or see anything I did wrong please tell me I could use all the help I can get. I just need to know like what to do when I am editing baseball articles because that is all that I edit. Kingryan227 (Decrees • Acts) 16:09, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Well, I certainly don't know everything about Wikipedia. However, I'm happy to be of service. In case you are interested, I recently started operating an Adopt-a-user program. I'd be willing to enroll you in my program. You could learn quite a lot from it. AutomaticStrikeout ? 16:14, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Yes! Please that would help a lot because I want to know how to set up my user page so it has those boxes like Trut-h urts man's page.Kingryan227 (Decrees • Acts) 17:10, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
You are going to need to be more specific. I'll let you what, find the specific userboxes that you want (you listed names of pages that have a lot of userboxes) and then copy the code that it tells you to copy in order to use the userbox. For example, at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Animals, which you mentioned on your userpage, there are dozens of userboxes. To the left of each one, there is a code that is wrapped with brackets. For the userboxes you want, copy the entire code, including the brackets, in the userbox space that I put on your userpage. AutomaticStrikeout ? 17:57, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
I appreciate the thought, but it's true: I am too much troubled by our recent engagements. "Our"--I pay taxes here, yes, but I have no representation, and even if I did, in the state of Alabama my vote wouldn't amount to nothing. I don't want to get into too much detail on a day like this since that might be considered inappropriate; I hope you don't mind. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 14:58, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Well, the template was just created today. Thank you. I've already downed two small bowls of cheddar jack Cheez-Its. Looking forward to the hot dogs! AutomaticStrikeout ? 16:08, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. It looks like I'm going to be having Happy Memorial Days for a long time! Well, I hope you will be able to come back someday. AutomaticStrikeout ? 16:26, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Haha. Well, a good game should be a good article. Thanks. I might be able to look into getting some pics from the game, but it could take a while. Nice job. AutomaticStrikeout ? 19:53, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
I saw your message stating your intent to request access to administrative privileges. In the past, when others have levied criticisms towards your proposals, you've shown some tendencies to react in an upset and defensive manner, including retiring. While it's natural to feel upset when negative things are said, I hope that you will be prepared to deal with whatever comments come your way, and do your best to appreciate honest feedback given in good faith, which I think most editors will strive to provide. Your ability to accept the assessments of others and use them to improve your interactions and contributions on Wikipedia will be vital to gaining the trust of the community. I believe you should be up to the challenge! isaacl (talk) 00:29, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
I appreciate the advice. I realize that when it comes to RfA, you never completely know what is going to happen. I'm going to brace for the worst and hope for the best. AutomaticStrikeout ? 01:37, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
I look forward to adding my support to your RfA, I think you have spearheaded some great projects - Arbs/Admins are people and the Golden Editor Award were exceptional ideas. The only issue I would inquire about is your recent retirements. Please don't get me wrong, stepping away from time to time is completely understandable and healthy. I just want to make sure everything is cool and if handed the mop you won't disappear. Again, no offense intended. Lettik (talk) 14:21, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
I appreciate the support that you and others would have been happy to show, but because of some concerns that I wouldn't do well, I've decided not to run at this time. AutomaticStrikeout ? 15:37, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
WikiProject Christianity Newsletter (June 2013)
ICHTHUS
June 2013
From the Editor
Since its formation in 2006, WikiProject Christianity has come a long way. A significant number of new articles have appeared on a wide range of topics, and the quality of some key articles has seen dramatic improvement. Yet, by the very nature of the open, crowd-sourced development environment in which we operate, as the number of pages in the project has increased at times our attention has been naturally diluted. We should of course strive for quality everywhere, but we should remember that this newsletter is called Ichthus.
Starting this month we will start a "Focus on" series, where we will try to "bring Jesus back" and focus on him. For five consecutive issues we will focus on one aspect of the study of Jesus. The goal of this series is to inform our members of what the project contains and highlight those articles which have reached quality and stability.
From this month until November we will focus on the historical Jesus, a topic which has been the subject of much discussion on article talk pages, as well as the general media. This is an important topic, and we have a good set of well referenced articles on that now. Then, starting in December we will focus on Christ, and the spiritual and theological elements that the title entails. Following that the review of the life and ministry of Jesus in the New Testament, his miracles, and parables will take place. And each month the "Bookshelf" will mention a book that fits the theme of the month.
We hope you will enjoy this journey as we present a new aspect of Jesus each month. And given that as the number of project pages increases, the ratio of those watching the pages declines, we hope that more of you will watch some of these central pages that help define this project.
Church of the month
The current building of All Saints' Church, Winthorpe in Nottinghamshire, England which was completed in 1888, is at least the third version of the church, which dates back to at least the early 13th century.
Did Jesus exist? Did he walk the streets of Jerusalem? The Historicity of Jesus article answers these questions with a firm affirmative. Historicity does not discuss if Jesus walked on water, but if he walked at all. The issue was the subject of scholarly debate before the end of last century, but the academic debate is almost over now. As the article discusses, virtually all academic opposition to the existence of Jesus has evaporated away now and scholars see it as a concluded issue. The discussion is now just among mostly self-published non-academics.
In 2011 John Dickson tweeted that if anyone finds a professor of history who denies that Jesus lived,he would eat a page of his Bible (Matthew 1 he said). Dickson's Bible is still safe.
The article discusses the ancient sources that relate to Jesus and how they fit together to establish that he existed. The evidence for Jesus is not just based on the Christian gospels, but by inter-relating them with non-Christian sources, and the fact that they all "fit together". Moreover, the existence of Jesus is not supported just by Christian scholars and in recent years the detailed knowledge of Jewish scholars and their discoveries (e.g. Shlomo Pines' discovery of the Syriac Josephus) has proven highly beneficial. We encourage you to read and follow the article, for the existence of Jesus is central to the existence of Christianity.
From the bookshelf
Jesus Outside the New Testament: An Introduction to the Ancient Evidence by Robert Van Voorst, 2000 ISBN0-8028-4368-9
Just a few years after its publication, Van Voorst's book has become the standard comprehensive text for the discussion of ancient sources that relate to Jesus and his historicity. This detailed yet really readable book has received wide ranging endorsements - Blomberg and Harris separately referring to it as the most comprehensive treatment of the subject.
Did you know...
A Handel manuscript
... that Johann Sebastian Bach wrote the initials "S. D. G.", for Soli Deo Gloria, at the beginning and end of all his church compositions to give God credit for the work, and that Handel at times did the same?
Help requests
Please let us know if there are any particular areas, either individual articles or topics, which you believe would benefit from outside help from other editors. We will try to include such requests in future issues.
It may been reported in various places, but I'm not convinced that the articles mentioning it were doing anything more than joking. If they were serious, that's sad. Somebody throwing gum on a baseball field is not an issue worth mentioning in an encyclopedia or anywhere else. AutomaticStrikeout ? 21:03, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
