The difference between thread subpages and, say, signature templates (which I can see the server loading effect of, used to have and am now on a crusade to rid Wikipedia of) is to that a thread will be transcluded on two, maybe three pages; a signature will be transcluded on two or three hundred pages. I got mine on about 100; that was after using one for 1 month. Anyway, many Wikipedia namespace pages do OK by it; for example, VFD has daily subpages, and every VFD has it's own subpage (from VFD, not the daily one). Closing statement: Pidgeot has indicated a desire to use thread subpages (evidenced by being the first person apart from myself to start a thread on my Talk page). If needs be, the threads can always be substituted once they are closed, and the original subpages speedy deleted as being in the User (well, User talk) namespace. Hi Burgundavia, I noticed you've changed Template:Idw-pui to have a very light background, and to include the full image name (with namespace) as parameter. While these are possibly good things (and I can see the benefit of the parameter change), {{idw-pui}} is now out-of-synch with {{idw-uo}} and {{idw-cp}}. • I would change the other two to the same style. I changed them to make them less garish, as they already stick out, and to make copying easier, as I generally do lots of images at once, and thus copy the image file name to several places, including there and list for addition to the PUI page. A long time ago I attended an introduction to criminology lecture (at which I was just about the only non cop-wannabe). The professor showed a basket of goods bought at a hardward store. He set an exercise for the class: figure out what the suspect who had bought this stuff was going to do with it. There was a small knife, some duct-tape, some weedkiller, some chain, some wood and nails. Answers produced by the class were generally elaborate tales of kidnap, extortion, and murder. The professor then revealed that this had been his shopping basket: that the chain was for a child's swing, the duct-tape to fix a duct, the weedkiller to kill some weeds, etc. There wasn't a relationship between them, and no criminal intent. His point was that you can always spin a story that connects unrelated facts, and the more unrelated they are the more entertaining the story will be. I just observed that user:Alphax has today vandalized the article Richard I of England, by removing much relevant information, attested by scholarly studies and contemporary sources. Alphax has chosen these to be vanalized apparently because of his anti-gay bias. Certain portions of these same have been also earlier under attack, as target of removals by other (or possibly the same) vandal. Incidentally, I know the cipher - I made it, in fact, and then gave it to these idiots before I found out what was in it for me. Anyway, no, I am not giving you the cipher, but I am going to use it to post a farewell letter on my user page, so yes, you can decode it from there. I'm leaving Wikipedia for the simple reason that I'm not at all interested in editing and writing and have much better things to do (no offence). That's why there's gonna be a letter, and I'm going to write it in code for the patient few who have the time to decipher the whole thing. I asked the owner of Firestream.net on IRC about it when I uploaded the image, and he said it was alright, and since the images are for public consumption, I picked a license that I think he would agree with.

Anyways, I'm PMing him on the boards (he just quit IRC, d'oh) to see if he'll okay the images as under cc-by-sa-2.5. He should... :P

I have recently taken over the responsibilities of Wikipedia:Mind Benders (shortcut: WP:MIND), and I just wanted to let you know that the pre-round, an artistic competition, is now open! While I admire your keenness, I would suggest that there are probably better ways to spend your time than messaging oldtimers about tildes. (How about helping out at VfD, for instance? PBurka pointed out that an important omission from this proposal: a band could meet WP:MUSIC criterion #5 (sharing a member with a famous band) and still be speedily deletable by this criterion. I've added a sentence to the proposal to reflect this: it now reads An article about a musician or music group that does not assert having released at least one album, nor having had media coverage, nor having a member that is or was also part of a well-known music group. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to VFD instead. Please consider if you support this new wording, and change your vote if not.
