You know how the album infobox has a "recorded" field, showing the album's started/ended recording? I think of the same idea but for video game development. It could be just the date of the start of the development, since games are usually developed until the very release. Of course, the field would be optional and could only be used with reliable sources. Oh, and I did read the FAQ above and still think this is a good idea, but feel free to argue. Most video games do not have a well defined period for when it was developed. Further, whereas recording an album may take only a few days to a month, depending, games have years of development, making that field not very helpful. Masem (t) 15:24, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
While its definitely useful information to know, this isn't like an album or something where it often says in the liner notes of when and where it was recorded. On nearly all game articles I've worked on, the working period has been vague and not meticulously documented. As its not a common attribute, I'd suggest not including it. Compilations as part of Platform(s)
Lately, I've seen a lot more infoboxes with platforms or remasters that include a games release as part of a larger compilation in the infobox.
This ranges from titles that are part of larger compilations such as
Final Fantasy Legend III for the Switch, because of the release of Collection of SaGa: Final Fantasy Legend.
Castlevania: The Adventure for the Game Boy Color (previously) previously Game Boy Color as it was included in the compilation Konami GB Collection Vol. 1 for the Game Boy Color.
This gets a bit confusing as the games is released, but there is not singular release Final Fantasy Legend III and Castlevania: The Adventure for the Switch or Game Boy Color respectively, they are only included in compilation titles. Should these types of releases be included?
I believe there was discussion in the past regarding the Rare Replay release, but it sort of got more involved with whether the game was made specifically for the hardware or not. I feel like this is a bit different but honestly, I feel like what we do or not include only makes sense if you are a wikipedian involved with WP:VG guidelines and less so from a regular reader. First this should exclude games released for emulated expansions, such as most titles in Atari 50.
If the collections release does not have its own article, then including new systems now supported by the collections release should be included by there should be a distinction between the original release and release in a collection. If we do have a page on the collection then these should be included in the infobox of the original game though the mention of the collection should be a key release detail.
