Template talk:Infobox organization

Calculating profits and losses

I have some ideas about how to have this template automagically report the under-/over-run of revenue and expenses. I've described them at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 216#Simple math in template and leave this note here as a reminder to me and to let others know, too. Organizations use all sorts of tricky accounting moves to calculate financial numbers. I would feel much more comfortable with a separate parameter that reported profits or losses based on numbers reported in a reliable source rather than us doing original research and possibly calculating numbers that are different from those reported by the organizations in public documents. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:08, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Non-profits technically don't have "profits", so my section heading is misleading.
There's not much room for tricky things here: it's just revenue minus expenses (preferably set as a percentage).
There are all kinds of tricky things one can do about declaring something to be an expense or not (recent example), and for publicly traded companies, which should be using {{infobox company}} instead, there will be people who say that you should ignore this simple number and instead focus on something like EBIDTA (nicknamed "earnings before expenses"), but this particular calculation is very straightforward. Edit request 25 June 2025

Description of suggested change: Please make it possible to add additional image classes to the template so I can use 'skin-invert' in Template:Infobox theatre group and finally Takarazuka Revue to make the logo become visible in the dark mode correctly.

Diff: Either by

| imageclass = logo
+
| imageclass = logo {{{logo_class|}}}

or adding it to InfoboxImage invocation. −Ebrahimtalk 18:55, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

 Done * Pppery * it has begun... 23:20, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
User:Pppery: Thank you so much first of all, this can be improved now I see and it's better to apply image_class to InfoboxImage invocation itself like this (or the Persian Wikipedia one) so that the caption text in Takarazuka Revue "Read western style, left-to-right, then top-to-bottom" won't be in black in the dark mode. −Ebrahimtalk 16:11, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
 Done in Special:Diff/1309587917. Corresponding test case was added at Template:Infobox theatre group/testcases. —andrybak (talk) 23:42, 4 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Should founded_location be "founded at" or "founded in"?

If the founded_location parameter is used, the text in the infobox renders as "Founded at"; however, a number of pages I have seen using this infobox would possibly benefit from it being "founded in" instead of "founded at". For example, We Need Diverse Books has an infobox that contains "Founded at Pennsylvania". Another example is Dominican Order's infobox which reads "Founded at Prouille, France (for women) Toulouse, France (for men)". Are these articles using that param incorrectly? Mapframe maps

Pending further discussion, I would like to request that the default inclusion of mapframe maps be reverted.

While these maps are great for many articles about organizations, they are not suitable for articles about national or international organizations for which the specific location of their office is little more than a piece of trivia. There are many organizations for which this information would not necessarily warrant inclusion in the infobox at all under MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, never mind such an emphasis on it that it occupies half of the infobox in some cases. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to including support for mapframe maps, but they're not suitable for default inclusion. Graham11 (talk) 02:47, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
