More than one article including the infobox seems to use the variable "estates" interchangebly for real estates and brand assets etc. Would it be helpful to offer to a more specific variables for the latter information, such as "properties", "corporations" or something to that effect? PPEMES (talk) 16:32, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Strange. While speaking of it, I observe that "coat_of_arms_caption" exemplifies as "motto". Still, we have a dstinct variable "motto". Why not move "motto" variable to the top, pretty right under the coat of arms capton image? PPEMES (talk) 07:15, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Proposed change to "Cadet branches"
Hello, I would like to propose changing "Cadet branches" to "Branches". An alternative would be to add an "Elder branches" option. What do you think? --Brookford (talk) 22:08, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There are the variables "Parent family" and "Cadet branches". Could you provide more arguments for renaming the latter to "Branches"? PPEMES (talk) 11:12, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@PPEMES: Sometimes the elder branch is different from the parent family. If a family split into 3 branches, what would the other 2 be called on the page of the most cadet branch?--Brookford (talk) 06:07, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= parameter to no to reactivate your request.
Currently, {{Infobox family}} flags a page in "Show preview" that uses |branches= by displaying a warning that "branches" is unsupported and then when the page is published, it adds the page to Category:Pages using infobox family with unknown parameters, but it still displays the label and value in the Infobox on the published page. So, if |branches= is still supported, it should be added to the code that checks for unsupported parameters. On the other hand, if |branches= should not be supported, then the code that allows it to be displayed (label27/data27) should be removed. – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 07:03, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Moving this request to the TPER queue for review. I know it's not template-protected but I'm not sure what's going on here (or what's being requested, really). ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 16:14, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the #invoke:Check for unknown parameters section of the code, change this:
| cadet branches | website |
to this:
| cadet branches | branches | website |
This change will fix the template so that it does not warn in "Show preview" that |branches= as an unknown parameter, as |branches= is supported in the Infobox section of the code. If this request needs clarification or further discussion, I will do my best to help. – 108.56.139.120 (talk) 06:38, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanx, @Curbon7:, I dared to do it on my own, and was half successful. I don't possess the necessary skills nor experience, however, I managed to include two parameter but one doesn't appears in the template, and I can't identify exact reason. Could you help me find the reason why this second parameter did not appear?--౪ Santa ౪99°20:10, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to 'unmerge' the "name" and "surname" parameters? Obviously for most families these will be the same, but for some nobles and royals, they'll be different. For example on House of Windsor someone has crowbarred Mountbatten-Windsor in as a "cadet branch" (which it is not) very possibly in an attempt to reflect this. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 15:13, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Many peoples, particularly the Māori people, find which river and mountain is their ancestral river and mountain really important family information. They also often put the ancestral boat which their family / tribe came here from. Would you all mind if I added a River, Mountain and a Boat tab to aid people who are writing about Māori families or families of any peoples who find that important?
