Template talk:Album chart

Edit request

Change "BillboardDanceElectronic" to "BillboardDance" as the chart was renamed from "Top Dance/Electronic Albums" to "Top Dance Albums". UnregisteredBiohazard (what i dowhat did i do now?) 02:30, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@UnregisteredBiohazard I think this is may be a little half-baked. Replacing BillboardDanceElectronic with BillboardDance will affect the 803 articles in Category:Album chart usages for BillboardDanceElectronic (807), so what are you suggesting? Muhandes (talk) 11:50, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Muhandes: Hello, sorry for the late response. If changed, I suggest getting a bot to replace all instances of "BillboardDanceElectronic" with "BillboardDance". UnregisteredBiohazard! 18:46, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This seems that this can be remedied by simply changing the output display to "Top Dance Albums". Just change
 • "| BillboardDanceElectronic = US Top Dance/Electronic Albums (Billboard)" to
 • "| BillboardDanceElectronic = US Top Dance Albums (Billboard)" --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:38, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. That sounds way simpler than having a bot edit 800+ pages. UnregisteredBiohazard! 01:06, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mexican charts

It seems like the Mexican charts (http://www.mexicancharts.com/) that are normally linked with other countries from Hung Medien have disappeared and the site doesn't seem to work anymore Majash2020 (talk) 04:54, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Majash2020 What do you want us to do about it? Muhandes (talk) 20:06, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Germany and Germany4

Category:Album chart usages for Germany can be deleted as I converted the remainder to Germany4. I was also wondering if |year parameter could be added for Germany4, like how its done at West Germany's single chart. Came across this issue at Together (Golden Earring album), which charted in 1972. The entry is in the Alben Von Golden Earring menu. Thanks! MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:22, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MrLinkinPark333: Since Germany4 is the only active Germany chart, is there any reason not to rename it Germany? Of course, a bot or a script will replace all occurrences accordingly. Muhandes (talk) 07:55, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Germany3 hasn't been converted to Germany4 yet. I thought we were waiting until it's all converted over before the rename. If it's easier, Germany4 could now be renamed to Germany after the code change, then Germany3 can be merged to Germany. However, are we splitting Germany with West Germany like single chart? MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 08:28, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MrLinkinPark333 while Germany3 was not merged, I see that it is obsolete, and supposedly will be merged. That's why I suggested the rename. I think a situation where we don't have a main Germany is confusing. As for the suggestions to add |year= and to create West Germany, I don't oppose. If you can code and would do that in the sandbox and test in the use cases, I will implement it after we take care of Germany. Muhandes (talk) 09:42, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
West Germany seems to work at Template:Album_chart/testcases#West_Germany. Though it doesn't appear at Template:Album chart/sandbox. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:28, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by it not appearing at Template:Album chart/sandbox. Do you mean the documentation page that is included by the sandbox page? There is no separate documentation page for the sandbox, so that would be the main documentation page. Muhandes (talk) 15:35, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I meant the documentation page. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 23:34, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to handle Germany, but the category is not empty, and I'm not sure how to empty it since I don't see working sources. I'll wait a bit. Muhandes (talk) 11:31, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Both are verified at offiziellecharts so they can be switched over. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:02, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct. I removed the old Germany citation. For now, both Germany and Germany4 use offiziellecharts, with only the former in the documentation page. There are over 10,000 pages to update (your doing? impressive) so I started working on it. I'll see if I can get a bot to do that. Muhandes (talk) 10:32, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't do all of it. It would have been too tiring to convert all 3 templates. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:25, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MrLinkinPark333, @Muhandes: I have replaced all instances of Germany4 with Germany, and the category is now empty. – DreamRimmer 08:22, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DreamRimmer Thank you. I removed the Germany4 option from the code and tagged the category for deletion. Muhandes (talk) 17:35, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Muhandes: I visited your user page and learned about the health challenges you have been facing. I wish you a speedy recovery and want to express my sincere appreciation for all the work you do for this project. Your contributions are valued and don’t go unnoticed. :) – DreamRimmer 17:43, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. It is encouraging to know that my modest efforts are recognized. Muhandes (talk) 17:53, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hot Rock & Alternative Albums

Since there is a thing in Template:Single chart for the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart (that being "Billboardrocksongs"), shouldn't there be one for this template too? UnregisteredBiohazard! 00:48, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing mandating a relationship between the two templates. Muhandes (talk) 08:27, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Change

 • "| BillboardTastemaker = US Top Tastemaker Albums (Billboard)" to
 • "| BillboardTastemaker = US Indie Store Album Sales (Billboard)"

This is because the chart was renamed from Top Tastemaker Albums to Indie Store Album Sales. UnregisteredBiohazard! 17:41, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Billboard_charts#Albums does not show any such list. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:52, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: Here: [1], [2], [3] UnregisteredBiohazard! 00:09, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.  Done. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:27, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Germany2 can be removed from the template as it was converted over to Germany. Category:Album chart usages for Germany2 was already emptied out. Thanks! MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:23, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MrLinkinPark333:, Germany2 doesn't seem to have existed as an option for a while (and the category was deleted years ago already?). taavi (talk!) 19:44, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. It's still there at Template:Album chart if you view the template. However, it's not in the code. I tried purging the template, but no luck. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:48, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it from the documentation page. Muhandes (talk) 21:15, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
