Hyphessobrycon genus ikan air tawar dalam famili Characidae . Spesies -spesies ini menjadi salah satu di antara ikan-ikan yang dikenal sebagai tetra . Genus ini tersebar di wilayah neotropis dari Meksiko selatan ke Río de la Plata di Argentina . Banyak dari anggota genus ini berasal dari Amerika Selatan; sekitar enam spesies berasal dari Amerika Tengah, dan satu spesies, Hyphessobrycon compressus ,[ 1]
